He didn’t want to leave. Or better to say, he didn’t want to leave you.

It wasn’t the first time he had to leave. It was something he had done for a long time; to leave and then to return. Some times it was easy; he would plant a kiss on your forehead filled with fondness, leaving behind him the phantom of his lips on you and you would wait for him knowing how much he loved you. Some times it was harder, when you hoped and tried to sweep Gotham away into the wind of another forgettable world for the arms of the other to be the only real world you dwelled within. Yet each time, no matter how challenging, solidified your shared certainty that for every time he left, he would always come back to you. Always.
