hey hey so ! lysander’s technically on hiatus for the week, since i can’t conceive of any reason why his trash ass would be invited to a baby’s birthday party, but if anyone wants to brainstorm an idea for a thread that could take place during ( but not at ) the event feel free to hit me up ! it’s honestly not a bad time for doing Bad Things bc everyone’s distracted so idk i’m happy to spitball and come up with something ?

DEATH WAS NOT A STRANGER to her. she had become closely aquatinted with it by no choice of her own. it, as death does, surged into her life without warning and shattered everything it could touch. could it be that the most recent encounter, four years and still the wound still fresh, had driven her numb? no, she felt sorrow for the guard’s death but she also knew how powerful wow weighed. “ ‘tis unfortunate that people seem to only care about death when it directly affects them. ” and even then, the mood in the capital was no as somber as one would expect. only the houses under suspicion appeared concerned with the investigation. everyone else was simply continuing on with their lives. “ however… if one were to grieve over every lost life then surely they would drown in sorrow. ”

there was something distant about her, as if like a garden she had walled herself in. understanding being guarded, he kept his distance. “my lady, forgive me.” he gave a well-practiced nod of his head, a courtesy show of deference he resented. “i'm not suggesting we mourn every man.” it would be a tiresome business, as she said, and he was of the opinion that most men did not deserve mourning. better to dwell on the living than the dead; they had much more to offer. “just that we don’t need to make a show of it only when it serves us.” truth be told, the supposed grandeur of the capital had never impressed him, even less so in its mourning.

“I would say any sane human had long accepted the reality that a caring hand and worried mind only reaches as far as one’s doorstep. After all, we would need twice the head and three times the arms is we were to defeat all the horror and unjust in this forsaken world.” she replied to the man speaking into the distance, to any ear that was willing to hear his complaint. Lucky for him, in the alehouse there were one too many eager to discuss the subject. Even fight over it if it was taken to far. She had no such intention, but as she had briefly taken over the role of the barmaid there was little else to do but answer the discussion and poor more ale. “The importance of the death is rated according to the amount of chaos it may cause within the borders of the realms. How sad it may be, not many mourn the death of a slave or a lonely fisherman. Let alone fear for their own future.”

his gaze raised, the corners of his lips twitching at her response. she was plain but pretty, he supposed, in the way any common girl might be in a low-lit tavern, but her words left him convinced there was much else common about her. it was easy --- purposefully so --- to misconstrue his words as concern, as an indictment of noble indifference, as though he spoke from some deep concern for the smallfolk, and she echoed his words with the air of someone who might agree with most anything said to her. “insightful, truly.” he raised the tankard of ale to her in a toast, eyebrows arched mockingly as he downed the last sip. “ --- you think this world’s forsaken, then ?” he inquired, feigning curiosity.
