Dual Nature pt. 1: Final Purgatory

It’s been a while since I made a thing. I’ve been sitting on this for the better part of 3 years… the story behind this concept is pretty detailed, but that’s for another time. This is part 1 of a 4 part series piece. I have hand selected my models for the series. I don’t know when I’ll complete the rest, but it will eventually be done. I’ve lost a lot in the time since I started this project, but I’m on the rise again this year. When I’m ready, it’ll get done. Im feeling close to ready again. Canvas prints will be made available upon series completion. Hoping to finish within the next year.

I don't often get photos of just myself. I often actually opt out of the solo shot for a selfie with whoever asks to take my photo. You have to be someone I trust for this to happen. It's not that I don't like my photo taken. I guess I find it weird to be the only person in a photo taken with my camera... It feels disconnected. Directing someone how to take a proper photo form the other side of the lens is an interesting practice. I can't see what the other person sees, yet I can still tell how a shot will turn out. I am often awkward and nervous in solo photos. I've really never had a proper professional self-portrait... weird, because I'm 10 years a photog. I guess I'm just that much more about everyone else than I am myself. I'm glad I exit my comfort zone on occasion though, otherwise I would be disconnected from the people. Even the best in the world struggle. Best we can do is know we are not alone and figure it all out day by day along with them. Learning better focus is a gradual process and should be an every day practice we all have. I don't have many people who inspire me and this one came out of nowhere.
