Reminder that making false reports to the FBI is a crime. You can face heavy fines for it, you can go to jail for it, and if you’re a minor who is doing this don’t think for a second that your age will protect you (or your parents) from facing legal consequences for your actions.

Reporting someone to the FBI for writing fanfiction about fictional characters—no matter what the content of the fic is—is a crime.

Reporting someone to the FBI for drawing art of fictional characters is a crime.

Reporting someone to the FBI for having a ‘nasty ship’ is a crime.

Reporting the entire AO3 website to the FBI for hosting ‘nasty fics’ is a crime.

Reporting adults to the FBI for talking about/engaging with kink with other adults is a crime.

Reporting anyone to the FBI by falsely claiming they are breaking the law when they are not is a crime and when you encourage people to do this you are encouraging them to break the law.

And while it’s probably not illegal to make similar reports to other organizations (such as anti-abuse orgs or organizations whose purpose is to find and catch predators online), when you report people to these places because of the fiction they consume or for any of the previous reasons listed you are still wasting time and resources that could have been used to catch actual criminals and help actual people who are the victims of actual crimes. Every time a worker at one of these organizations has to investigate a report you sent in about someone shipping cartoon characters, that is time they are not spending investigating a report of an actual predator who is actually out there harming real people. That is time they are not spending trying to help a real human being who is actually being victimized.

When you make false reports to the FBI or other organizations, you are actively harming not only other people but also potentially opening yourself up to major IRL legal consequences as well.

Don’t do this. Don’t make posts telling others to do this. It is not a game and this is not behavior that should be taken lightly.
