i’m too tired / lazy to update it now , but my main post-show verse , has marcos as dawn’s full-time parent while lorna is frequently off and fighting for mutant equality. he works full-time as a museum security guard and will also take up the odd job here and there if money’s tight , but his number one job is being dawn’s dad.

she may or may not be dreading the coming conversation because she’s fully aware somebody called them. even though she’d done her best to cover up the fact, it hadn’t helped one bit. she’d still burned a rather homemade hole in her jeans because she’d gotten hurt at school today. “ surprise?” she offers, lightly. a bad idea to lighten the mood now, but hey, a girl could try. 

he’s never been the best at hiding how he feels , and as marcos looks at his daughter , he’s sure the overwhelming concern is etched clear as day on his face. yes , he’s aware that since the invention of phones , parents have received calls home from school about their kids. but this isn’t the same. it’s different for them , as much as he wishes it weren’t. so , choosing to ignore dawn’s levity , he takes her hand in his , and in that soft , rough voice of his , he gives her the chance to explain. “ what happened , mi amor ? ”

          “ that’s what we’re trying to do , of course it is. ” perhaps no one quite understands the way marcos does , HIS daughter never far from his thoughts. everything he does is so that dawn will grow up in a better world , but sometimes it seems like life has other ideas. the sigh of a man decades older than he leaves his chest , hands folding in front of him “ but peace is easier said than done. especially when , out there , we’re nothing but a threat to them. "

the best thing about the gifted ending is that i can pretend that marcos got to live out the rest of his life being the amazing dad that he always wanted to be to dawn and loving lorna with his whole heart and finding peace in the chaos of their lives
