I am only a half an hour into the new Drawtectives episode and I NEED Porchini/Porchino to join the Drawtective crew. He needs to be saved.
Edit:
I am now finished with the episode, and first things first it was an amazing episode I absolutely loved it and am so excited for the rest of the season, secondly I am choosing to believe that Porchino is going with them since they did tell him to.

Yo, correct me if I am wrong please, but didn't Hitler rise to power because he promised to fix the German economy and people really liked that so they looked past everything else he was doing??? Like exactly what's happening in America right now???
So many people said they voted for Trump, put a truly evil person in power, because he said he'd fix the economy, and a little voice in my head is going, "Isn't that what happened with fucking Hitler??"
But I've seen no one point that out so maybe I'm miss remembering???????

Already seeing people on tiktok saying “I still hate trump but he ate with this one” like … babes … you just got propagandized … that’s literally exactly what he created this situation in the hopes you would say …

The Trump inauguration and the Muskrat doing a literal fascist salute right when I’m about to do my Holocaust unit with my students seems very poignant. I am going to be reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel with my 8th graders in a rural farming and shipping community, and I’m starting to feel like this might be one of the most important units I teach this year. I am not even a history teacher, the Holocaust in my state is an ELA standard not a social studies standard. So, while I’m glad it’s part of our curriculum at all, why give a piece of history so important to the less qualified teacher? I don’t know but wish me luck dealing with the parents.
Enjoy this excerpt from Chapter 1 of “Night” if you want to know how relevant it is:
“ the Budapest radio announced that the Fascist party had come into power. Horthy had been forced to ask one of the leaders of the Nyilas party to form a new government.
Still, this was not enough to worry us. Of course we had heard about the Fascist, but they were still just an abstraction to us. This was only a change in the administration”(Wiesel, 6).

Reminder for when he “saves” it. He was the one who wanted this, and now he gets to be the hero and win favour with young constituents. Don’t give him the credit for fixing his own problem.

I need a place to scream into the void about politics and what’s going on so here it is:
Everything that’s been going on is so dystopian and scary. It is so jarring to see the effect of a second Trump presidency already, even before he is officially sworn in as president. I was trying to spend a nice weekend with my partner, someone who someday I want to marry but now the future of that hope seems like it might be in jeopardy, only to wake up and find TikTok officially down. Then only a few hours later see it’s back up with a big ole “thanks president Trump” notice on it. The right-wing trying to monopolize social media sites and trying to censor and shut down leftist voices is scary and is going to have a horrible impact in the long term. I can say this will be especially true for children as I can already see that impact on them as a middle school teacher. This TikTok stunt that was pulled feels both like just a grab at younger peoples approval and a way to flex their power and censorship abilities. Fascism start with silencing opposing voices and we need to remember that. TikTok coming back is not the Trump administration “listening to us and giving us what we want” it’s a threat of what they can do if we try to work together to go against them. It’s all bullshit that we need to see behind.

Just in case any of you are confused, TikTok being banned and coming back not even 24 hours later with a giant "we thank President Trump" message is NOT a win. It's a huge red flag and a sign that this was a thousand percent planned.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle chapters 3-4
Okay my thoughts so far after these chapters. One, I don't know how I feel about Uncle Julien. There is something about him the gives me the heebie-jeebies, like I don't trust him or how he treats Constance. I don't know why something is just off there for me. Two, repetition in this book is utilized so well. It makes the story seem so much more suspenseful and is very telling of the families mental state. Like they are all so caught up in themselves and their thoughts living life in this endless loop since the rest of the family died, it adds to the fact that they all seem a bit mad, they have all lost it since the event. Speaking of the families death. I am really fascinated of how in Chapter 3, Julien does not bring up Merricat at all, like he talks about what everyone else in the family was doing that morning but not her. All we know is that she was sent to bed without supper and I am so curious why and what she was doing. Plus he only referred to the brother as "the boy" do we know his name I don't think they have mentioned his name at all or if they did it was really brief. Finally I am curious to see if her magic words come back. She seemed to have originally picked them at random, however, when Charlie gets in the house she says, "Their names were MELODY GLOUCESTER PEGASUS, and we were safe until they were said out loud"(57). I find the fact that she says "their names were ..." really interesting, is the "they" the family? The magic items she buried? someone else? I really am looking forward to finding out! Also don't know what to think of Charlie yet, Ill form an opinion on him latter.

Just finished chapter 2 I got so duped I have no clue what’s going on all my initial thoughts are not really true it seems?? Except for Merricat being so unreliable. God this book is fantastic.
We Have Always Lived In The Castel
First book of 2024. I definitely got it solely because the cover looks really interesting and it is by the same author who wrote Haunting of Hill House (full disclosure I have not read that book just watched the show). So far I have just read the first chapter and here are my first impressions:
It is really well written. The suspense right off the bat is super intriguing. The narrator is totally unreliable but I am so enthralled by her. I am questioning everything and have no clue what is real and what is her paranoia. I can not wait to learn more about the Blackwell family, what happened six years ago, and what Uncle Julien did (though given the vibes already something tells me future updates about this book will have a trigger warning because of him).
The towns folks are really interesting as well and just all around I am uneasy about the whole town and I am obsessed with that.
