Russia invading Ukraine is one of the most morally clear-cut conflicts, period. A former empire, much larger than its neighbour/prior colony, invades it due to longstanding revanchist fantasies of reclaiming its lost imperial glory. The smaller country has to fight back to ensure its survival, especially since its aggressor has repeatedly stated its intent to wipe it out even if it submits. Someone who supports Russian irredentism and imperialist warmongering is either someone profoundly ideologically poisoned, evil, or both.

Kolomyjka, by Teodor Axentowicz
The kolomyjka is a Hutsul music genre that combines a fast pace folk dance and goofy-rhymed verses. It originated in the eastern Galician town of Kolomyia (Hutsulshchyna). It was historically popular among the Poles and Ukrainians, and is also known in northeastern Slovenia (as the kalamajka).
Kolomyjkas are still danced in Ukraine, as a tradition on certain holidays, during festivities, or simply for fun. In Ukraine’s rural west, they are popular dances for weddings. In North America, the kolomyjka is primarily a social dance. Participants form a circle, joining hands. The dance begins with the participants turning the circle, usually counter clockwise, then clockwise. Further into the dance, soloists will perform in the centre of the circle.

The smallest bra size they sell in stores is still 3x too big for me, it just rides up all day and the cups just hold 66.6% air, it’s the dumbest thing ever, literal most useless objects I own and I hate how it looks, but I am obligated to wear them because for some reason we in society have deemed the artificial half-sphere shape of a bra cup under clothing “professional” while the slope of natural breasts, even with no nippleage, is considered “unprofessional.”

who are you when you are not watching tv or movies? when you aren't playing video games or reading a book or fanfiction or listening to music or whatever other kind of media that you engage with? who are you when your mind isn't in another world or story, when you are forced to sit with yourself and the only experience you have is your own sensorial life? can you define yourself outside of what you consume? who is that person? do you like them? can you bear it? can you bear it?

1. Tapestry by Stefania Shabatura that depicts Cassandra and says: "Wake up, Troy! Death is coming for you", line from a poem by Ukrainian poet and writer Lesia Ukrainka.
2. Tapestry by Stefania Shabatura that depicts Lesia Ukrainka and quotes another Ukrainka's poem: "Either death or victory. These two roads will stand before us".

I'm so interested in subtly disengaging from imagined pressures to be productive, especially in the body where the smallest movements can put you in an activated "on-call" state. We learned orthopedic techniques for thoracic outlet syndrome in last night's class and I realized how many of us across all lifestyles have our arms in front of us most of the time, even though our arms have the strongest structural integrity when they are at our sides. The shoulder joint cavity is actually quite shallow, and the head of the humerus is less likely to dislocate when the arm isn't reaching in front of you. And while my teacher was talking, I realized that my arms were in front of me, as if prepared to do work, but there wasn't work to be done, and the subtle shift of putting my hands at my side is like clocking out

"I'm too special to be just a woman" has got to be the most annoying form of female nonbinarism they've come up with.

it’s really sad to see how feminism has become a joke in academia. using a feminist approach in your work is rarely taken seriously. a feminist lens is perceived either as trivializing of the work at hand, or as an intentional misunderstanding of it, because you are viewed as some kind of bitter, childish feminist that cannot comprehend the works true meaning through the blinders of your whiny man-hating. perhaps this isn’t the case at all universities, but in my experience as a student i have found that a feminist lens is often seen as a cheap or easy way out of more “productive” analysis. the lens of queer theory, a supposedly a more productive angle, is seen as inherently more intellectual and complex. and yet, i find this approach often complicates (or “queers”) things to an unnecessary extent, often to the point that the analysis seemingly renders the work meaningless—whereas feminism is much more useful for actually drawing conclusions.

one of my favourite idioms my ukrainian grandma tells me is more like a short story that goes like "two old women (баби) spent 7 years in prison talking. when they got released they sat down on a bench in front of the prison and continued talking"
