Oh for god's sake.

I was just snooping around on Google for stuff about John and came across a little video trying to explain about John's attributes versus Steve Rogers as a supersoldier.

I was kinda into it but then they immediately lost me by trying to claim John only decided to enhance himself using the serum due to, and I quote “a humiliating defeat where he got his butt whipped by a Dora Milaje" end quote.

Uhhhh, no. First, ANYONE would get their ass handed to them by a Dora, you've seen those women fight, right? And that isn't the sole reason he did it, clearly this creator missed the entire conversation John had with Lemar about it where they discuss wanting to help more people, and weigh the pros and cons, so John didn't do it for some ego boost. He wanted to be "worthy" of the title and likely felt that he had no real choice since everyone was accusing him of wanting to be Steve when all he really wanted was to be the best Captain America he could be. He never wanted to be Steve and even said so.

The serum doesn't just grant superhuman qualities, it also the enhances the qualities of the person receiving it so of course that meant Steve's selflessness and bravery. And yes, for John, it amplified his rage and I thank the creator for not trying to claim Nico as the victim he isn't, but we are also conveniently forgetting that John's rage was so over the top because this same terrorist was an accessory to Lemar's murder and had also held John back, preventing him from interfering. This same creator also ignored Steve coldly and bluntly stating that he would not stop until every member of Hydra was dead or arrested after Bucky's initial death. Sounds exactly like John so is he the bad guy?

People try to spin that if John took the same serum that Steve was given “since the new one doesn’t do that”, he'd be just like the Red Skull but I don't agree. John Walker is still a loud-mouthed asshole by Thunderbolts but you know the other qualities I've seen?

Selflessness and he shows this several times without getting asked or expecting praise. It’s just who he is.

Incredibly LOW self-esteem which could also be because he was groomed since he was 18 in an environment rife with toxic masculinity which then threw him under the bus.

Determination bordering on sheer recklessness. Steve had this too. This is also likely a product of John’s training where he was drilled with pain is part of the job and soldiers just keep pushing. Because of this, he has trouble knowing when to stop and that isn’t on him alone.

And on a lighter side, the serum also seems to have amplified that when he's not got his soldier mask on, he's somewhat ditzy. I think this is shown the best in the post-credits scene set 14 months later when he looks much more carefree in the presence of the team, which I choose to interpret as him finally following his own moral compass instead of the way he was trained. But that could also be him intentionally rage-baiting Yelena like an annoying sibling, who knows.

John Walker is not the villain people seem desperate to make him and I will defend that stance to the death.

bob looks at you like you hung the moon.

leaning back against alexei's camper van, you find yourselves watching the sun set. you don't exactly know how alexei got everyone to agree on a camping trip, but somehow he did. its surprising, especially for bob, who always did prefer to stay in the tower, waiting for everyone to come back after their missions.

bob likes being with you.

its one of the most obvious factors (probably the only one) as to why he's even stepping foot here in the woods. he doesn't know anything about camping, the last time he went to one was when he was in boy scouts. and even then he was clueless. he only remembers catching bugs to bring home. only to find that they'd died on the way. which is still unfortunate to this day.

but you were patient enough to teach bob some of the things you did know. from setting up his tent properly to roasting marshmallows for your s'mores. bob was happy enough to be taught by you.

and now the sun is setting. everyone else is gathered around the campfire, telling stories. and you can hear john sharing an old story about the time he went camping with his dad and going fishing.

"i even remember catching this big catfish. i think i still have a picture of that."

"how big was it now?" yelena quips.

"oh, I bet it was." ava chuckles. but john rambles on, clueless. you share a grin with bob as you continue to listen.

your gaze is on the sunset, but his is on you.

everyone's voices start fading in the background, along with the distant cooing of birds, and the singing of cicadas. as bob listens to his own heart beat easing from being next to you.

you're quiet and you don't talk.

but bob notices you.

he notices when the last sunlight reflects in your eyes, and when the darkness creates these shadows on your face, that makes him want to take a photo of you and make this memory last longer.

bob looks at you like you hung the moon.

because maybe you did.

since it certainly looks brighter tonight with you.
