If you had told me that my new favorite horror duology would be about a psychotic clown murdering teenagers ala âChildren of the Cornâ (1984/2023) and âMom and Dadâ (2017) and queer teen heroes fighting conspiracy theories, internet trolls, and being genuine badasses? I would say thatâs about as likely as a photo of my goth persona trending in a Facebook group of Elder Goths, and yet both are true. Adam Cesare is THE author to watch for new and exciting horror that breathes new life into the teen slasher tropes and turns them on their (severed) heads. In âClown in a Cornfieldâ he delivers a bunch of narcissistic influencer teens being senselessly stalked and murdered by the townâs former Baypen Corn Syrup Factory mascot, a clown named âFriendoâ. Quinn Maybrook moves to Kettle Springs, Missouri, with her father, the townâs new doctor, to escape the aftermath of her motherâs tragic drug overdose in Philadelphia Looking to make a fresh start, Quinn integrates herself with the townâs clique of teenagers whose favorite hobby seems to pranking the town and filming it in Jackass/Daredevil influencer style for likes and lols. Recovering from their own tragic death several years earlier from such a prank that took one of their own, the teens bring Quinn into their fold and she begins to suspect that not everything is as it seems in this town where the adults are obssessed with maintaining the sovereignty of the good old days where a clown in a pork-pie hat stood for everything that was right in the world. As the town prepares for its Founders Day celebration, the stakes are high, the corn is higher, and the teens donât know whatâs in store for them as they plot their biggest prank yet. Once the bodies start hitting the floor, the action and gory kills do not stop. Clown in a Cornfield 2: Friendo Lives picks up a year later. Quinn is trying to live a normal life as a college freshman. When strangers in 𤥠masks simultaneously attack her, Rust, and Cole at a frat party and attempt to murder her father back in Kettle Springs, Quinn realizes that the horror isn't over. She'll have to return to the scene of the massacre and take care of Friendo once and for all. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2hyRFuGLi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Apparently, I've become known as "That Spooky girl" at work. So much so that my Secret Krampus leaves gifts in my mailbox. I know absolutely nothing about this movie except that it comes from one of my favorite decades of horror films đŹ . Has anyone seen it before? What exactly am I in for? I had an incredible time seeing "Wicked" for the first time with my best friends and our Moms. We braved DC traffic and had a lovely post Christmas gathering at my house with our husbands, cats, and kids. It's probably one of my new favorite musicals! Props to the kid behind us who shouted "Ewwwwww" during the kissing scene. (at The Kennedy Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnKLGvAObJjm6LyGmsJ5tXzexKcuS4MBifyFdE0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

While perusing my local public libraryâs online newsletter of new books, I picked up this book quite literally after judging it by its cover. I had just come off of reading âPaperbacks from Hellâ by Grady Hendrix and was very curious about reading a ranking of horror films and the psychology behind what makes them scary. I wanted to read it so badly that I drove to a neighboring library system to pick up a copy. From the introduction, âUltimately, the final list contains films that are actually, tangibly scary and remain so after multiple viewings. If youâre the type of person like me who canât stomach certain types of horror films (body horror, anything directed by Lars Von Trier) I highly recommend this book to give you a review of certain horror films to see what youâre missing. I also appreciated the compendium of popular films (Psycho) and off the beaten path films (The Entity, Who Can Kill a Child, Lake Mungo). An interesting feature of the book is that the author uses infographics of Seven popular âScare Tacticsâ to not only âillustrate how a particular scare tactic is relevant to a particular scene or aspect of a film, but also places them all in an infographic to summarize and rate how each film utilizes each scare tactic overall in its running time complete with time stamps and descriptions of each scene where each scare tactic takes place. For example, the jump scares in Psycho rate it a 10/10 lightning bolt scale for âThe Unexpectedâ and rank is a 9/10 scare ranking overall. [The Other Scare Tactics include: Dead Space, The Sublimal, The Grotesque, Dread, The Uncanny, The Unstoppable]. *Itâs also helpful to have the meanings of each Scare Tactic handy as you go throughout the book so that you can remember what each one means (though they do have their own unique symbols). This is not light reading by any means but I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to the average, avid, and beginning horror fans out there if youâre looking for a comprehensive overview to to horror films from 1970s to present day and what makes their viewers go bump in the night. Goodreads rating 4 out of 5.  #horrorphile #horrormovies #booksaboutmovies https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm9wqbaJ7_3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Why fit in when you were born to stand out? -Dr. Seuss I love this photo of me. I'm wearing a church dress that is way too dressy for school picture day. I have coke bottle glasses that my classmates will endlessly tease me about. I do not care. I have books, friends, and my family, so in my eyes, she has the entire world at my fingertips. I wish I had this much confidence as an adult. #soooooo90s #bluevelvet #velvetandlace #picturedayready #1990s https://www.instagram.com/p/CmzmZI8pERpGzS05quWkCo0ozYQ186vM6K_nmY0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Only with my best friends of 20+ years would I endure a 5k in subzero temperatures (wind chill = 25 degrees) as a fundraiser for a local marching band. Our success of completing the run in person and virtually despite the wind gusts meant celebratory lattes at Ted's Bulletin. Thank you for doing this with me Sarah and Jenny! Found in the library. A lot of students wear classic anime T shirts but this gifted student wins today. It's DECADES DAY during Homecoming Spirit Week and my co librarian and I are ready! We had several students in the library show off their spirit as well with some amazing looks. I didn't grab a picture but one of them was absolutely twinning my look with a Ghostbusters shirt instead of #areyouafraidofthedark. #patherprideđž #yourefromthe70sbutima90schick https://www.instagram.com/p/CjGe716p15TG5n8tLHAc8TRIAYlsT6ZfKvG5tM0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Day 1 and done!! After recovering from Covid, my first day as a high school librarian went amazingly well! I helped students check out books (Brisingr and Tokyo Ghoul), tackled the laminator, drafted a letter to take to McKay's Used Books about an education credit for the library, and printed looooots of schedules. All in all a great first day! It felt so good to be working with teens again after almost 3 years. I celebrated by taking a nap and moving the lawn. #hslibrarylife #teenlibrarian #schoollibrarian (at Potomac High School) https://www.instagram.com/p/Chnm8qNJgoN7Y5ZU_av45c8QCXS0asT6w0Ateg0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Mid-week karaoke đ¤ date night đ our favorite watering hole. I hadn't sung this song since losing the final round of a cruise ship karaoke contest on our honeymoon to a guy singing, "I Believe I Can Fly" and I had to see if I still got it. The best part was another singer coming up to us afterward and telling us how much he enjoyed it, fist bumping @maniacmog for his "Hitchhiker's Guide" shirt, and telling us how entertaining we were and how he hoped we would come back. #totaleclipseoftheheartâ¤ď¸ (at CraftWorx Taproom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgkKgUkJy1RgCZ85dFMfHv7hvxdQ9E7Qn8e2c80/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I havent gotten a new tattoo in almost 4 years but then @alexandra_cakelin posted a sketch she drew to our group chat and I knew I had to have it as my next piece. She very kindly sent me the original sketch which I'll post later once I've hung it up in my office. I told myself that once I finished grad school I would get her tattoo. Then I find out my favorite tattoo artist retired. Luckily I stumbled upon @kimmythehun and her amazing work with flowers and skulls. As soon as Summer hit I made the appointment and off we went! I'm a former English major and a complete and utter Shakespeare nerd. My idea was to expand upon a chest tattoo I already have of Ophelia's Bouquet from the play "Hamlet', and add more gothic imagery to it: specifically a skull with flowers growing out of it, leftover flowers from Ophelia's bouquet that didn't make it into my first tattoo, and types of flowers that grow in graveyards. We went with rue, fennel, violets, and periwinkle. I was SO not used to that shading pain but I am absolutely in love with it!! Thank you Kim!! I can't wait for our next round!
