Wait hold tf up I think I just made a very strange connection between Vil and ROLAND. For those who don’t know ROLAND is Japan’s top earning male host, a job where you they entertain girls and drink, though this does NOT mean they are prostitutes, what they provide is basically just someone to listen to while you drink- though I’ll add that it’s crazy expensive.

I just learnt about him from a video the anime man put out and I just felt like he was crazy familiar or that I’d seen him before despite not knowing who he was a few days ago- so I checked out a few videos on his own channel and his mannerisms, charming ‘narcissism’ (he says narcissism I just think it’s A LOT of self-confidence) and appearance are all eerily similar to Vil- to the point I think a lot of his character has been inspired by ROLAND- seeing as he’s the nation’s number 1 host and the evil queen was obsessed with being the most beautiful, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to theorise that Vil is based off of him since he’s being doing this work for over 10 years and it’s likely that Yana had met or known of him and used him as inspiration.

If you search for ‘The Anime Man’ - it’s the most recent video at the time of posting this, there is an interview he does together with Joey though it’s mostly anime related.

Though if you search for ‘The ROLAND Show’ and go into the community tab, there should be a post titled ‘A Message From Roland’ with a ‘read more’ button- this has some links to a few videos that include English subtitles, if you watch few some of them, I think you’ll understand the connection I’ve made.

Damn hot take from Ciel but I think both white-washing and black-washing is dumb, I can understand it if it’s a fun ‘what if [x character] was [x race] but a lot of the race swap artists I’m seeing these days act as though because they’ve decided on this, literally any other fan art that doesn’t line up with their opinion is automatically racist and then they go on a harassment parade (even if it’s just someone saying they enjoy the original character design more) It’s cool to play around and have fun, but forcing your opinion onto others is a shitty thing to do, not to mention that if you want more diversity in a cast, changing all the characters to one specific race isn’t going to fix that? In such cases, I think including OCs would be better- perhaps even using said characters as a sort of catalyst to have the rest of the cast show interest in learning about certain cultures.

Though for cases like twst, where a lot of characters are based on stories in different regions but their race or culture is poorly researched and executed, adjusting things to be more accurate for your own personal enjoyment is very cool too, since Yana or her team definitely won’t be doing them justice anytime soon.
