        he blinked in response to his name being called, not quite sure if he even wanted to know why the ultimate breeder was calling for him as his head would slowly turn, brows raising. there were a lot of questions he had in that moment, some along the lines of why he had to be the one subjected to this kind of thing and some wondering why the hell tanaka felt like he could trust his taste. not that fuyuhiko ever believed that he gave anyone a reason not to, but the point still stands that this was a really fucking weird way to start a conversation.

        and the slight surprise washing over his features would make it apparent that he had not seen that question coming one bit. it was as if he almost had to make sure that he heard correctly, that this wasn’t some joke because it sure as hell sounded like one. there was a brief moment where he was almost irritated that this was what the guy wanted to waste his time asking, but again, he was more thrown off than anything in this particular moment. “… the fuck did you just ask me?”

                                ❝  you dare make me repeat myself ?  when my instructions specifically advised against it ?  ’      HIS    VOICE    ROSE    WITH    ANGER  before dropping with a smile, impressed with the audacity of fuyuhiko to defy him.      ❝  alright, i shall explain to you my reasoning for asking such an arbitrary question . . .  ’      he paused before continuing, giving his mind time to conjure up an outlandish explanation.      ❝  if you're brave enough to enter my den, you would know that it reeks of death and destruction.  ’      which merely only meant that the school’s animal shed was starting to give off a foul odor.      ❝  despite being well taken care of by their god, having various breeds cooped up in a rather small space can lead to unhealthy conditions.  ’      he requested that the school expand on their animal sanctuary to leave room for roaming, but that was not something that took top priority on the headmaster’s desk.      ❝  to my knowledge, leaving an antiperspirant out can help better the scent of its surroundings. i needed the opinion of a mortal, since i am not well versed in such earthly articles.  ’

                                   of course, that was all a lie that gundham managed to make up on the spot. in truth, he really only wanted fuyuhiko’s opinion for personal purposes. he planned to switch to a better brand, but wanted to have an opinion or two before doing so. when it came to things like that, he didn’t have a father to turn to. rather, he hoped he could rely on his classmate without actually having to shed light on the true reason he approached him.

                         HE WAS NERVOUS, to say the least. it was a sensation that gundham himself hadn’t experienced in quite some time as he waited near the stage’s exit for the end of the ceremony. in all fairness though, it had been a great deal of time since he had felt anything at all. being in a comatose state for months on end does a number on your psyche, apparently. it was actually gundham who had awoken last when him and his friends were released from the neo world program. it’d been so long, the others had already began to restart their lives in the real world. meanwhile, the breeder was still becoming acquainted with life again. his current unease about who he was and where he stood would not stop him from doing the one thing he was blessed enough to wake up on time for: the coronation of princess sonia nevermind. all his former classmates would be in attendance, and they had decidedly kept gundham’s awakening under wraps. he traveled to novoselic in secrecy, and watched the woman who had grown dear to him become a queen.

                        NOW, IT WAS TIME TO ACTUALLY confront her — something he wasn’t prepared for despite having plenty of time to do so. he watched her speak to the crowd with grace and determination, something she always possessed, but he never got to witness it on such a grand scale. he was grateful for the fact that he could experience this and watch her grow into the role forced upon her in such dark times. his hands held a firmer grip on the bouquet in his hand as observed sonia’s exit from the crowd’s eye. gundham wasn’t the only one waiting for her. a crowd of congratulatory hugs and kisses flooded her away from view for a few minutes, but after what felt like a lifetime, gundham was finally able to approach novoselic’s new leader.

                                                 ❝  my queen . . .  ’

                                 HE BOWED ALMOST playfully towards her, resisting the urge to pull the woman in and never let go.     ❝  ah, for you.  ’     he held the flowers out towards her. something he purchased from a local street vendor on the way there.     ❝  the beauty of these flowers is no match for your radiance, but i could not simply offer myself to the newly initiated queen.  ’     he knew how trite and cliche flowers were, and he was certain that she’d receive a bouquet far more extravagant than his, but he’d feel strange showing up empty handed to greet her.
