Buzzword of the day: Agritecture. Let's take a systems-based look at urban food. It is impossible to ignore the built environment when seeking to actualize a more sustainable urban food paradigm and incorporating permaculture into a flexible model is one way to address that. Built space is, by traditional definition, inherently relatively inflexible with limited use. Human environments need to be seen as having potential to be complete ecosystems with net-positive externalities. Instead of wasting water and land resources in vast monocultures producing unhealthy foods, lets focus on passive benefits. Air, water, and soil purification and enrichment is a starting point, but lets consider the benefits to communities. Let's continue to centralize agricultural production in urban spaces in order to reap the benefits of advances in energy production, resource distribution, and much else besides.
