A man with a concentrated face, perhaps focused on what he’s looking at outside the window. He appears to be in some sort of building in the city, perhaps he has a minute to slow down and not be in the hustle and bustle of the city, he appears to be more relaxed while leaning back on a concrete wall. His hair is down, and his glasses are on and looks like he’s ready for the week to end, and the weekend to begin!

It seems as if the girl is laser focused on one thing, because I noticed the strength of her eyes looking fiercely at whatever she may be looking at. I would estimate the girl to be around 20 years old. Perhaps she’s stuck daydreaming about life, or contemplating her future, whatever the case may be, she seems to be attentive to whatever is in front of her. Her eyes are an amazing color and its really shown here, they go along very well with the colors of the sky and the tree above her

Nora appears to be close to 20 years old, with the look of a determined woman, with her hair down and a very nice dark jacket. Her hands are in her pocket as she’s looking directly into the camera lens, similar to one taking a yearbook photo. Here I had Nora sit on a chair that was outside and shaped the outdoor hallway to have the lines all steer towards her. I think the cloudiness of the day we took these photos add some mysteriousness and/or strength to her. Nora feels like the main subject in the photo with her being bullseyed in the middle and having lines all directing towards her. She is sitting very tall in this photo and in my opinion, shows a lot of wisdom and knowledge here.

I captured the emotion or focus my sister has on the flowers she is holding. She seems to be lost in focus on the flowers and tapping into a more emotional state. My sister got some flowers from our parents, we decided to use them to help us capture some photos! Here she’s wearing a fall jacket with some silver butterfly earrings and has her black and light brown hair down. I was happy to see the warm colors that I always strive for show up just how I wanted them to. Golden hour had some great lighting, and the flowers helped tap into some great colors!

My sister is always very photogenic and ready to have photos taken of her! I chose to have her photos taken in my backyard because its very spacious with a wide variety of colors, as well as having great light during golden hour. With her being ready to take photos, I told her to do her thing and to give me a pose where her hands look to be in a more natural pose rather than having them extended down the side of her legs. I feel most comfortable taking photos with my sister, we both hold high expectations for one another when it comes to taking portraits of each other.

2 of the most emphasized formal elements in this photo is the color, and the value. I attempted to emulate Andy Goldsworthy’s color like scheme and picked out some green and orange-brown leaves and placed them over some dead gray leaves. The colors of the recently fallen leaves shoot out at you in contrast to the dull gray leaves that they are sitting on. I really tried to emphasize the value of the green on gray contrast, and this turned out to be one of my favorite photos i took from this specific assignment, I can see a very tiny amount of my artistic eyes starting to come into play with some of my photos!

Over the course of this assignment I had in my photo class, I came across this very colorful plant blooming right next to the calm pond, behind the plant. This plant is definitely the focal point of the photo, with the pond above it in the middle part of the photo, and a weeping willow accompanying the plant in the background near the top-right. I really like the sense of peace and tranquility I got after seeing this photo and post processing it. I tend to take more urban related shots, but nature shots have grown on me a lot lately!

Early one morning, I went on a walk to Lilacia Park in Lombard and brought my camera along. In the heart of the park, I spotted a baby chipmunk exploring one of the older and more unique trees. Here he is looking around the area and sitting on this curved and arched branch, working its way from the center of the tree to the top right of of this photo, and down through the middle of the photo. I also unknowingly at the the time, caught some good lines and shapes with the leaves leading down to the white background, and being directed to the chipmunk. The chipmunk sitting peacefully on the tree really stuck with me, I aspire to one day be as free living as him!

As I started to learn more about the formal elements in class, I realized just how many principles can be shown through this photo. I decided to place my glasses on this bench by a pond near my house. The geometric curves of the glasses really pop out to me over the rough grain of the wood. The straight lines of the grain of the wood bench are very apparent as well. I was really aiming to get the early morning sunlight to be shown through my glasses, and I believe I accomplished that. These last couple photoshoots have helped me to understand better the composition of my photo taking, and to be more aware all the space and nearby surroundings when looking for that next photo.

I decided to place my glasses on some rocks in a pond that I found at a park close to my house. I was really interested in the geometric curves on the glasses contrasting with the roughness and irregular shape of the rocks. This photo shoot has taught me to keep in mind all the light, space and surroundings when shooting in the future.

Oscar Barnack, Wetzlar Germany, 1920
This photo shows the small town of Wetzlar Germany struggling through a flood that went through their streets. What made the photo famous wasn’t mostly what is in the photo, but how it was taken. It was the first 35mm still camera out taking photos.

Oskar Barnack took this photo with his 35mm Leica camera. His photos of the floods of Wetzlar, Germany in 1920 are considered to be the first photos taken with a 35mm still film camera.

Oskar Barnack, 1879 - 1936
Oskar Barnack was famous for inventing the first Leica camera, he suffered from asthma, so he proposed and successfully made the first 35mm still-camera in 1913 so he can easily travel with it.

I wanted to make this sewer look a little more unique by focusing more on the rust and wear of tear of the metal than adding a foreign object. I was really happy with how the depth of filed looks on the leaves!

I had an assignment that required me to take photos of a sewer. I wanted to make the sewer look unique by pointing out the rust and the wear and tear of the metal. This assignment taught me how to direct the attention to a certain subject better, as well as to getting a more organized workflow on both Lightroom and Photoshop.
