FROM MY BAY KITCHEN Rene Astudillo
6K posts
Memories of my homeland, travels and more . . . seen through the confines of the kitchen and in the context of food. I learned most of my cooking from my late mother, just watching her in the kitchen. She had no recipe books or cheat sheets, just the skill and knowledge probably passed on from my grandmother and my grandmother’s mother. I honestly believe that the best dishes are probably the ones that are passed on by word of mouth and practice, perfected not by measuring cups or kitchen timers, but by intuition and the pouring of one’s heart into the cooking.

(Senate) Class Dismissed!
In a plot twist worthy of a teleserye, certain senators have magically decided that due process is so passé—especially when it comes to the impeachment trial of Sara Duterte. With the subtlety of a bulldozer in a tiangge, covert moves are underway to dismiss the trial faster than a session adjournment after lunch. Bravo! But here’s a wild idea: instead of dismissing the trial, why not dismiss…

Imee Marcos’ Great Redemption
Senator Imee Marcos strutted into the Senate like a triumphant beauty queen — or perhaps more like a pageant judge who never got crowned — declaring with exaggerated pride that she was “present!” on the first day of the 19th Senate’s reconvening. It was a theatrical comeback, timed suspiciously well after her rather awkward snubbing at the gates of Rodrigo Duterte’s hallowed The Hague hideaway,…

Senator Bato Confirms Harry Roque’s Send Passport Is Authentic!
MANILA, Philippines — May 27, 2025 — In what may be the most airtight forensic analysis since “nasaan ang Pangulo?”, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has come forward to confirm the authenticity of former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s alleged second passport. Roque recently took to social media to post a dramatic flat-lay of his cancelled Philippine passport, seemingly in response to…

Senator Bong Revilla’s Resbak
Senator Bong Revilla, famed thespian of both action movies and plunder trials, has now declared his next heroic mission: hunting down the netizens who allegedly sabotaged his election dreams. Apparently, it wasn’t the ghost of PDAF past or his courtroom cameos that hurt his campaign—it was TikTok memes and spicy Facebook comments. Armed with a sword of justice and a VFX-heavy budget, he’s…

An Open Letter To President Bongbong Marcos, Jr.
To His Excellency, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. : I write this with the sincerest intention of uniting two great political dynasties who have generously ruled—er, served—the Filipino people. In the spirit of reconciliation (and mutual survival), may I humbly recommend the re-appointment of Madam Sara Duterte to a top cabinet post, preferably something as powerful as “Secretary of…

Senator Bong Go’s Absence Is Telling
Senator Bong Go’s absence from The Hague, despite being Rodrigo Duterte’s most loyal aide, is striking—and politically telling. While Duterte’s family, allies like Robin Padilla, Harry Roque and even fringe personalities like Maharlika and that insignificant Brit have made appearances in the Netherlands — with Senator Bato on his way — Go has remained notably distant. His silence and physical…

Will Marian Rivera Dare To Step Forward?
Marian Rivera, queen of dance and now—allegedly—queen of confidential funds? Netizens are shooketh after reports surfaced linking her to VP Sara Duterte’s secret stash. Unlike Mary Grace Piattos (who sounds like a snack-loving ghost), Marian is very much real and has receipts to show—hopefully not just mall show posters. With hubby Dingdong Dantes known as a proud Pinklawan, the couple’s…

Wow, What A Concept! Marcos- Marcos-Romualdez!
Imee Marcos as Senate President? What a thrilling plot twist—straight out of a teleserye, but with more dynastic flair! According to her, some senators approached her about it. Approached where, though? In a dream? A seance? Imagine: Bongbong as President, Imee as Senate President, and Martin Romualdez as Speaker. It’s like the Avengers, if the Avengers all shared the same last name and…

Did Blogger Mark Lopez Fart In The Elevator?
Blogger Mark Anthony Lopez has truly mastered the art of fake news but make it fashion. In a dazzling display of journalistic gymnastics, he drops a bombshell: “Was it the First Lady who asked all cabinet members to resign?” Ah yes, the classic fake-news-with-a-question-mark technique — the coward’s exclamation point. It’s like throwing a grenade and whispering, “Just asking!” as it…

Sara Duterte’s Idiomatic “Bloodbath”
Ah yes, the classic political defense: “It was just an idiom!” Sara Duterte declaring she’s ready for a “bloodbath” in her impeachment proceedings is apparently just her colorful way of saying, “Let’s have a lively debate over coffee.” Because when normal people use “bloodbath,” they’re clearly referring to PowerPoint presentations and polite parliamentary discourse. Never mind that the idiom…

The Kingdom Of Davao
In the illustrious Kingdom of Davao, the House of Duterte reigns supreme—where political power is hereditary and democracy is just a fun suggestion. The royal bloodline is so solid, it might outlast cockroaches and the British monarchy combined. King Digong, the founding patriarch, ruled with an iron fist, a golden motorbike, and the occasional colorful vocabulary that made royal court jesters…
