fucking crazy crazy crazy how freddy confessed to being a cop basically to give larry the opportunity to kill him. like there’s just about no other way to interpret that. there’s no way larry would have been able to escape at that point. the cops were THERE. freddy’s life might have been saved if he’d just let larry believe the lie for a few more seconds. he could do that with eddie and joe. but he couldn’t keep lying to larry. not after everything larry had done for him. what he had just sacrificed. it was too late to help larry escape, but he had one thing left he could give him, and he did. like i know i’m just restating the same thing i always do but jesus fucking christ.
#ive said something v similar to this before i think#like freddy doesn't want to die but he leaves that choice with larry

I watched Cop Land (1997) the other night, and Harvey Keitel saying 'Freddy' multiple times altered my brain chemistry

“In the war film, a soldier can hold his buddy—as long as his buddy is dying on the battlefield. In the western, Butch Cassidy can wash the Sundance Kid’s naked flesh—as long as it is wounded. In the boxing film, a trainer can rub the well-developed torso and sinewy back of his protege—as long as it is bruised. In the crime film, a mob lieutenant can embrace his boss like a lover—as long as he is riddled with bullets.
Violence makes thehomo-eroticism of many “male” genres invisible; it is a structural mechanism of plausible deniability.”

shoutout to that one film bro who liked this review then very quickly unliked it when he presumably realised that it was “one of the gay ones”

okay okay. thinkin About Them again. specifically today i’m thinking about the way that larry’s staunch code of honor is both what keeps freddy alive but also what ultimately gets him killed in the end :/
#MORe specifically im thinking about how freddy really wasn’t wrong to be the most scared of mr white out ofthe group but also so. so. wrong#like why do we sometimes act like larry would be chill abt finding out freddy is the rat when he canonically reacts in the Most Unchill Way#not that i blame him ofc. poor man. they break my heart they really do
