Tips for comfortable air travels with kids
Tumblr media
The last time my sister flew down to Cape Town with her twins I was amazed to see how much more planning and time goes into travelling with kids.  What normally would take twenty minutes, took over an hour, not to mention that there is twice as much luggage - all of this only for a two hour flight!
Yes, when kids are travelling with you, you need to be more prepared because as we all know they have special needs and we have to respond to such needs.  But it is good to travel with your kids – it builds family life and opens their eyes to new discovery and knowledge.  With the tips provided below, it would surely help you get yourself prepared for your next travel.
Seating:  The foremost thing to do is to reserve a child friendly seat – a toddler under the age of 2 sits on a parent’s lap and it is safer for a child to be seated between adults, away from the aisle.
Arrival:  Make sure that you arrive at the airport well ahead of schedule to prevent any last-minute mix-ups.
Food:  Make sure that you don’t arrive at the airport with hungry kids – even if you intend to buy a snack before take-off.  Only a reasonable amount infant formulas are allowed to be carried abroad.
Clothing:  Kids must wear comfortable clothes.  An additional pair of clothes will be helpful to manage spills. A small-sized blanket and a jersey are also among the essential things.
Checkpoint:  Airport screeners are not allowed to handle or carry children through the checkpoint, therefore you need to make sure that you will be able to handle the hand luggage and your child/children.
Essential carry-on bag:  It is wise to pack a separate bag for essential items such as snacks, toys, nappies, wet ones, lollypops for aeroplane ears and emergency medicines.
Entertainment:  It is vital to keep children occupied so that they do not get restless or start disturbing fellow passengers.
Aeroplane ear:  Some people experience ear pain when flying.  Usually this happens as the plane descends to land.  The pain may get worse the lower the plane gets and can be quite severe on landing.  If you or your child have this problem, the best thing is to chew or to swallow normally.  Some airlines offer sweets to suck and eat when the plane is descending, to encourage you to chew and swallow.
