Some of your teachers have anxiety disorder. I am one of them. I teach because I fucking LOVE teaching, but that doesn’t magic away my anxiety. When I try to be smooth and ask you how your weekend went, it’s to break the ice to ease into the Monday. When the entire class just STARES AT ME, ohhhhh boi 

You know when you watch a movie about the main character dying, and the character doesn’t realize they’re dead so they keep trying to interact with people only to slowly realize that they’re actually dead? Yes, that’s right, when my students don’t react to me I wonder just for half a second if I died and got stuck in a bad movie from the 1980′s. 

I’m not saying this is your fault. I’m not saying, “So, okay, study or something, yeah?” All I’m saying is if you don’t know, please just say you don’t know. Scared to speak out loud? Try a shrug or come at me like you’re doing some kind of prank and you’re on The Office.

We both have to deal with being in class, and while I love teaching I don’t love standing there wondering, “Are they thinking about the answer or are they avoiding answering because they forgot but they’re too scared to admit they forgot?” If I know you don’t know, I’ll just move on without any problem…but I need to know that you don’t need a moment to think about it. 

Maybe I need cards like this is a soccer game. Red Card - Don’t know Yellow Card - Tip of my tongue, give me a hint Green Card - Call on me, I have an answer for you

I guess this doesn’t apply if your teacher’s a huge asshole that just wants to shame the shit out of you for not knowing the answer…use your discretion.
