        her  whole  body  freezes  as  soon  as  his  words  reach  her  ears  and  her  eyes  widen.  she’s  got  her  back  to  him  so  she  can’t  tell  by  his  expression  if  he’s  joking  or  not  ,  but  he  wouldn’t.  the  clothes  she’d  been  folding  are  abandoned  as  she  turns  to  meet  his  earnest  gaze  ,  eyes  still  so  wide  it’d  be  almost  comical.   “   i’m  sorry  ,  let’s  have  a  what   ?   ”   she  must  of  heard  him  wrong  ,  that’s  it.

        it’s  not  that  she  doesn’t  want  to  have  children  with  bellamy  ,  or  at  all  ,  but  she  hadn’t  held  out  hope  for  it  to  be  something  that  was  going  to  be  happening  soon.  they’d  talked  about  it  of  course  ,  but  arkadia  was  still  settling.  peacetime  had  lasted  for  years  but  it  seemed  like  there  was  always  work  to  be  done  to  build  their  society  ,  more  problems  to  solve  ,  more  reasons  to  push  off  starting  their  own  little  family.

        she  can’t  breathe  ,  one  hand  clutching  desperately  at  her  chest  as  the  other  presses  against  her  stomach.  she’s  disoriented  ,  something  desperate  slipping  from  her  lips  ,  but  she  can  only  focus  on  the  dreams  -  memories  ,  actually  -  that  have  chased  her  into  the  land  of  the  awake. 

        it  was  just   a  dream.  it  takes  time  ,  but  her  heart  finally  slows  it’s  racing  and  her  mind  finally  understands  that  she  is  not  stumbling  through  the  halls  of  mount  weather.  she  is  in  a  different  bunker  ,  beneath  the  remains  of  polis.  she  isn’t  alone.  fingers  loosen  their  grip  on  her  shirt  and  reach  beside  her  for  the  source  of  the  soft  reassurances  in  her  ear.   “   it  felt  -  it  felt  so  real.   ”   her  tightly  squeezed  close  eyelids  finally  drift  open  when  she  speaks  ,  eyes  adjusting  to  the  darkness  around  them  as  she  feels  her  fingers  trip  over  his  arm  before  sliding  to  grip  his  hand.
