This is your friendly reminder that the last few years have been hard, and if your writing has taken a toll as a result, that doesn’t make you any less of a writer. Maybe you went on hiatus. Maybe you got burnout. Maybe life gave you shit and other things took priority. It doesn’t matter. Writing is hard, so when life is hard, you might end up slacking in the writing department. And that’s okay. There’s no rule that says you have to write even when life is shitting on you. You’re allowed to take a break, and you can start writing again when you feel ready.

April 2021 word count

I managed to hit a new record this month despite having to miss a day when my big dog got sick and I had to take her the vet and then drive 2.5 hours to take her to my parents house so she wouldn’t have to use any stairs, and then I got stuck there for the night because of the sun and I didn’t have a phone charger with me. It was a very long month but I’m proud of how much I’ve gotten done on my anastasiabutnot fic, which is pretty much the only thing I’ve worked on all month.

I have, like, almost no impulse control and a lot of stress right now. Which has somehow worked together to create the crackiest fic idea I’ve had to date, and I’m allowing myself to write with no research. The fic? a shiniida fic very loosely based on the animated movie Anastasia. In which Tenya is Anastasia, Shinsou is Dimitri, the grandmother is now the brother (Tensei ofc), Aizawa is Vladimir, Stain is rasputin (though much less dead and much less powerful, there is no magic), Toga and Spinner fill in for the bat, and Mic is sort of Sophie but not really, plus a few others that don’t fit into the movie roles. I’ve almost finished chapter one, and I am living for this fic. I am the person who wants to read it the most.

February and March 2021 word count

I unsurprisingly forgot to post last month’s count, so I’m posting it with March. Definitely not my best month, but March was hard this year (although in very different ways than last year’s March). I’ve got a bunch of different fics going at the same time, which helps because I can usually find something I have at least 100 words to add to, but it’s also a little overwhelming at times. I think most of February’s words went to my tlm fic while this month was all over the place, with the last week or so trying to focus of my WIP that I have posted on ao3 so I can add that to the “finished” pile of fics. Here’s hoping next month isn’t as rough on me.

actually, now I'm tempted to write a bunch of smut for this ship as a nice "fuck you and your fatphobia"

high-key annoyed because I was talking to some people about a poly ship I adore and no one else seems interested in, and 2 of the them were like "yeah! but I see [only fat character in the group] as being the kind of ace that doesn't like sex and only likes cuddles!"

and while I don't know what they look like, and I 1000% support aces of all kinds, I just find it highly suspect that, out of 4 characters where the others are all "fit" and conventionally attractive, it's the canon fat character that they see as the ace one.

as a fat person, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

January 2021 word count

I’m pretty happy with my progress this month, despite how many bad pain days I had. Hell, most of yesterday’s word came from trying to distract myself at work so I wouldn’t end up crying in pain. More than 5,000 of this month’s words went to the first chapter of my tlm fic, which is ending up way longer than I thought it would be. My last dream fic was barely over 3k. Let’s see how much of this momentum I can carry over into February

I'm really tempted to wait until I completely finish my tlm fic before I post it. But I'm also already nearly 4k and Eric hasn't even been rescued yet. So I'm kinda worried about how long it could take. And worried about how long this fic will turn out to be. At least I'm taking fun?

2020 Word Count

After taking some advice from my mom, on October 14th, I decided to set a goal of writing 100 words per day. A goal so small that even on my worst pain days, it was doable for me. So I set reminders in my phone to go off every day and I would see every time I picked up my phone until I finished. Some days, I was able to finish before my reminder even went off, while some days it sat there until I was laying in bed at night and tacking on ideas to outlines to meet my goal. Some days I would struggle across my finish line while some days I managed to flesh out an entire plot from a previous vague idea (looking at you November 28th). And little by little I was able to finish a fic that I started over 2 years (and 4 jobs) ago, finish a short story about a song that no one but me wanted, and I’m now 5 chapters in on another fic that’s looking to be my longest yet. I feel so accomplished, like that 16,000 more words than I would not have written if I had just tried to sit down and finish an entire chapter. Small bites are apparently the key to my success, or at least to my happiness.

Last night when I was trying to sleep, I was thinking over a few different plot points for my poly witches fic. and I thought of something funny and since it's going to be while before that fic gets written and there's no real fandom for this series anyways, I want to scream it into the void now.

"I'm a witch," -Katie

"I'm bisexual," -Declan
