I'm aware no one follows this blog, but just in case, I do wanna make a lil notice about au August. Cause I've got a lotta shit happening in the next few weeks, I am gonna make stuff for every day, but it'll be posted a bit late for each. I know that kinda defeats the point, but I really wanna make use of all the prompts and anything I did would've gone past August anyway lol. But I do have 4 new AUs to show off, so keep an eye out regardless!!

AU August is a month-long prompt challenge designed to encourage creators to share their AUs! The plan is for this event to run annually every August, where a list of 31 unique prompts will be available on this blog for you to go wild with

In addition to the tradition prompt month format, Mod has split up August into 4 theme weeks and 3 days, combining to a 7-prompt list that can stand on its own as a week-long challenge, if you'd prefer! The idea is to make it as easy as possible to develop and share your AUs

Ok yknow what I'm gonna yap about the Project: Sonic the Hedgehog world.

I've been thinking a but about how social customs change between our world and the AU, and what has to change to allow for the source material to exist in the way the AU has it. So, here we go- a bunch of miscellaneous thoughts about the world around Project: Sonic The Hedgehog AU.

Anthro animals are an accepted part of society and have been for a long time. They're considered equal to humans and that's how it'll stay.

To that end, accessibility is also a much larger focus, as most pieces of technology and architecture need to be accessible to both humans and anthros. It's considered a big social faux pas if you don't, and businesses that attempt to forgo one in favour of fast cash go bankrupt really quickly.

Clothes: in settings with uniforms, PPE or similar, anthros are expected to wear clothes. In settings outside of that, it's completely up to them- although shoes and gloves are generally considered a social decency standard among anthros, and for semi-formal or formal events it's not uncommon to wear clothes anyway. This is why most of the P:STH versions of characters wear clothes- they've grown up doing it to some degree at school, and they're accustomed to wearing them for some extra self-expression or just to look better. However, uniforms/PPE/etc can and will be modified, of course.

Furries/fursuits aren't generally seen as "cultural appropriation" or anything similar, more just appreciation and harmless fun. There's a fairly large subset of the furry community that's made of anthro furries with human fursuits. It's considered a social in-joke and poking lighthearted fun at each other so long as it's not done negatively or portraying harmful stereotypes. In fact the furry and anthro communities are often pretty tight-knit, as anthros will often help fursuit makers and wearers modify the suits for accuracy and comfort based on their own experience and biology!

Representation- Yeah, in the 90s/2000s the Sonic characters had the whole Mobius/other-planet thing going on. Because anthros have been around for such a long time, while they haven't escaped prejudice per say, they're treated pretty equally, so generally unless you're saying "they're aliens and therefore they're bad", that kind of thing is essentially the spiritual equivalent of, like, Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who or something. It was more a subtle justification of superpowers and stuff like that (Sonic's speed, Tails' genius, etc) before they decided to start ditching it entirely because the team found it boring and it was hard to keep up compared to the games where everything was on Earth.

As for how modern anthros see the franchise- well, Sonic is one of many franchises with anthro actors or characters, and certainly not the only one with near-exclusivity in that regard, so it's pretty much treated the same as it is today minus the rep from people who think the fanbase is weird and full of furries. So, basically, it's us currently without the furry porn rep that shows up every now and again.

Anthros and humans aren't segregated in any way. There are some jobs and things where one might be preferred over the other for things like height, working times or requirements, and stuff like that, but otherwise it's pretty well free reign by now.

Just in general, their society is a lot more progressive compared to ours in most aspects, because having that second dominant species in anthros helped cull a lot of the centrism and bigotry we see in humanity throughout history. Being forced to accept differences throughout the ages meant that both groups became much more tolerant of interspecies differences that are for some reason still debated today.

To that end, their school systems work a little differently. Anthros that hibernate over the winter or aestivate over summer are recorded in the systems, and their caretakers provide the school with rough date ranges for when each individual student starts going into and out of hibernation or aestivation. During that period, those students will be allowed to leave school (obviously), and all schooling and classes done during that period of time is recorded or noted in some form (nowadays classes are usually video recorded, but a staff-set scribe taking notes isn't uncommon either).

When they return, hibernating or aestivating students will directly resume the school term as normal or do their makeup homework and tests over the holidays, but are given the records and some homework to catch up, and they are either exempted from tests or have catch-up dates organised depending on the nature of it (i.e. practical lab tests they're exempted from, but an English essay or a Drama improv will be postponed. Assignments work on a similar system.) Exams, uni open days, and most excursions are situated in mid spring or autumn (depending on how the school year goes) so that they don't have to work around them for hibernation or aestivation, unless someone goes into it seriously early or stays really late, at which point there's cause for medical concern.

Compared to us, summer holidays also tend to be a little shorter, but they're in equal length to winter holidays and still longer than the other school holiday groups- the summer and winter holidays are longer so that everyone gets their long break without having to sleep through it, and those who slept through the other set still have both holiday and makeup time.

That's pretty much everything I can think of at this moment- but if you have questions or ideas abt society and the world and whatnot go ahead and send an ask in!! You'll definitely have things I haven't thought about, so please do send in question or thoughts- this world has so many opportunities for depth and I'd love to see your thoughts or make developments based on your questions.

Project: Sonic the Hedgehog Silver and Mephiles refs!

Wholesome Mephilver? Yes please waiter. Jk I am the chef lmao. Oh that is Dreams of an Absolution in my headphones. Anyway! Let's hope Tumblr doesn't ass the quality off Meph's text, I can add a transcript if necessary lol. I don't have many fonts on the thing I use to edit these together. These two were really tricky to design, but I'm happy with how they turned out. And yes, Iblis is a hedgie in this AU too- they fucked around with animation in 06 lol. I'll figure out how to design him eventually (although if anyone has ideas please do give them! I'll gladly take 'em) Anyway, these two are a pair of cuties. I love them.

Project: Sonic the Hedgehog Metal and Amy refs!

These two are the life of the party. It isn't lit til the cybergoth girl and her scene boyfriend are running things. And yeah, Amy has a joking rivalry with Mephiles- Meph and Metal used to be a thing in highschool, but they had a shitty devstating group-damage braeakup that ended up leading them to the partners they have now. So after the whole thing cooled down a bit Meph and Amy ended up best buds! And yes, Metal is aware they trash talk him. He doesn't mind, everyone knows everything about each other in this group and he'd do anything for Ames. She'd do anything for him, too- trash talking is just how half of everyone in the group shows affection. And yeah, Metal's legal name is Sonic- unlike Nicki, he got the name from his dads cause he was one loud ass child. Ironically, it was actually that and Nicki being a fast runner that ended up inspiring the character of Metal Sonic.

Project: Sonic the Hedgehog Shadow ref!

Fun fact this is actually the first one I drew! I had the clearest idea for him lol.

He has the Robotnik-Tower name because his parents (and Maria's too! They're family friends) are a geologist and a paleontologist respectively, so they're not always home and while they still contact the kid, they left him in Gerald and the Towers' care, eventually fully transferring legal care just in case after things nearly went bad once. They're very proud of their son and Shadow's dad is very happy to play the part of Black Doom (even if it was the result of a fight with his son while they were writing the game).

Sonic AU: Project: Sonic the Hedgehog (P:StH)

Ever wondered who's behind the famous franchise? It's your lucky day, my friend- you've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of the famous franchise, the people behind it, and the six hedgies leading the charge. Welcome to the masterpost.

This is a Real-World Actor Au! The overall premise is that instead of Sega and the Sonic Team we know, it's the characters themselves creating the franchise in their backyards with a little coding knowledge, a few cameras and a LOT of DIY. They've been at it since Big made a game for class when he was 8 and it took off by accident. The AU focuses on the six hedgies behind it- Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Metal, Silver and Mephiles. (The others are there too, those six are just the main characters.) This AU is simple in theory but complex in nature- it's got a timeline noting down every character, their age with each year, and what happens each year both in the AU and what the franchise drops, which although I won't show in full (this franchise has a LOT of stuff, y'all would not believe how busy they were in 1993 alone) I will have on standby to have the logistics of things around. It'll be mostly canon characters, but because the roster doesn't fill up every spot I need, there will be some OCs in the mix to fill in stuff like parent roles. A lot of the stuff I have with this AU is ordinarily the kind of thing that you'd never learn, but because I made the AU and it does have a basis in the characters' personal lives you get the exclusive stuff I guess LMAO! ƎNA AU: Welcome to Canny Valley (WtCV)

Welcome to Canny Valley, a small town nestled by the woods that's home to a singular theme park and quite a few eccentric residents. Don't worry- it's a peaceful little spot. Mostly. Okay, there's drama sometimes. But usually it's pretty alright.

This AU is a human/real world/highschool AU for the ƎNA series! (Both the animations and the game.) There's many parts to this- pretty much every named character is here- but you'll mostly find us focusing on the local high school, its staff and its wack-ass cohort of 12th-graders. Most of the cast will be made up of canon characters, but to fill spaces in the lore, there will be originals- although they won't actually show up if I have my way, they'll just be mentioned. That means they'll go unnamed, so if you're seeing a character mentioned that doesn't sound familiar or isn't on the list of characters, they'll likely be a filler.

If there's something on the list that isn't linked, it means it's a work in progress that'll be posted eventually, or a post I haven't had time to link yet. Similarly, if there isn't a post that's Welcome to Canny Valley-related here, it'll show up when I have the time to link it- I'm just busy or forgot.

Hi! @thespianinthebackcorner here. Welcome to my AU blog- basically, where I yap about any AUs for fandoms I have where the work I'm doing for it extends past writing fanfic (although, admittedly, I haven't written fic for any aus that will end up here yet). Check back here every now and then- if I come up with a new AU, you might see a lil something on the list, even if it hasn't been revealed yet! Additionally, each bullet point will (eventually) link to the masterpost/explanation of each AU, so you can find everything easy.

My AUs can have content warnings attached sometimes!
