- How do you define culture?
I define culture as the theme of a society that a that a certain amount (be it majority or minimal) of a community will follow and be influenced by.
- Popular culture?
Given my definition of culture, I would say that popular culture is most accurately described as culture that, at the time, has the most attention and traction in the populace that follows it.
- Is there a difference?
There is a difference in these two aspects of culture, one example of which can be seen in the amount of time that they endure. For example, culture in certain contexts of ethnicities and generatiotions, it is a long standing and traditional culture that spans for decades and centuries. However, popular culture ebbs and flows like a tide with different events that appeal to the masses of individuals.
- What are the different ways you engage with MEDIA? (television, social media, movies, etc?)
The different forms of media that one can engage in are based on the amount of access that one has to the media (i.e. newspapers, social media, internet, billboards on the road, etc.)
- What are your preferred methods of media engagement?
My preferred method in this stage in my life is the social media form.
- Do you consider yourself a PRODUCER of media? CONSUMER? BOTH? Explain…
As someone who posts I have to consider myself a producer. However I would consider myself more of a consumer out of the two because I don’t regularly produce media on the same level and in the same manner that I consume it.
- Do you consider yourself a CRITICAL PRODUCER/CONSUMER of media? How so?
I pick and choose when I am a critical Producer/Consumer, although there are things that I am radically against exposing myself to (i.e. certain political parties, problematic individuals, etc.) For example, although I love watching movies, such as Avatar, I cant deny that they used a very trite subject matter of the “natives and colonizers” as the overall conflict of the movie.
