Write three sentences about how word-image interaction contributes to thematic development on Chapter 2 Page 20 of O Human Star.
Here, the words really do interact with the image, as the “WHEEEE” sound effect represents the wind forcing Al backwards. This creates a vivid image of the wind as both sound and tactile force. It’s a part of Al’s building frustration related to his struggle dealing with the unknown.

Write a sentence about how distance between figures contributes to worldbuilding on Chapter 5 Page 30 of O Human Star.
The first 6 panels are Brendan’s hands directly touching robot components, with no visible distance, which feels cluttered and chaotic.

Write a sentence about how head and eye direction contributes to emotional impact on Chapter 3 Page 37 of O Human Star.
Brendan’s scary shiny glasses obscure his thoughts by hiding his eyes, making him mysterious and slightly creepy.

Write a sentence about how selective display contributes to plot progression on Chapter 2 Page 12 of O Human Star.
Page 1 shows the back of Al and Brendan’s heads instead of their faces, emphasizing that they are looking at Sulla as they talk about what she means.

Write a sentence about how spatial relations contributes to worldbuilding on Chapter 4 Page 1 of O Human Star.
Panel 3 looks down from midair, emphasizing how spacious and airy Brendan’s house is and giving an idea of both his aesthetic and his wealth.

Write a sentence about how background and location contributes to worldbuilding on Chapter 3 Page 34 of O Human Star.
The number of people watching Al and Brendan’s presentation shows that this is a big chance for them to impress, and judging by the smiling people in the background of Panel 3, Brendan already seems pretty impressive.

Write a sentence about how background and location contributes to emotional impact on Chapter 2 Page 64 of O Human Star.
The photos in the background of Panels 1 and 2 provide context about Brendan’s life after Al, which is bittersweet for Al because Brendan was able to live a happy life without him.

Write three sentences about how facial expression and body language contributes to thematic development on Chapter 5 Page 21 of O Human Star.
Brendan has very stiff body language in Panel 2 as he tries to control his anger towards Al. He also has tense facial expressions, especially in Panel 4, where his brow is furrowed and his mouth is tense (there’s really not a good word for it.) His stress shows that demanding too much of Al is hurting him as much as Al.

Write a paragraph about how word-image interaction contributes to thematic development on Chapter 1 Page 34 of O Human Star.
Word-image interaction on a wordless page. Here goes.
A page with no dialogue places focus on Al’s inaction. Al spends this page watching silently, and the fact that he never speaks highlights his passive observer status. It also detaches the characters from a clear, moment-to-moment timeline. The transitions between panels are connected by mood and topic, not by immediate causation, creating a dreamlike effect. These things together create an impression of Al drifting through time, unsure what to do or think, which exemplifies the theme of him struggling to adjust to the future.
