Okay Severance is the best show out there but I genuinely believe it would be elevated to another entire level if they add a little box in the right corner showing Ms Cobel's live reaction to everything going down in the episodes that she wasn't in

wait. so if reintegration means mark's first days at lumon will be as far back as his 5th birthday - does that mean that in between all his memories of his life with gemma will be memories of meaningless, lifeless interactions with ms casey??? he'll have memories of looking at her face with nothing but love in his heart, but just as many memories of looking at her and feeling nothing??

Jame Eagan in 1x9 talked about bringing home the first Severance chip prototype when Helena was a little girl. Helena is 30 now according to Milchick, which means she would've been a child around 20+ years ago, young enough to say shit like "It's so pretty Daddy, everybody in the whole world should get one."

Which means the first Severance chips were made around 20 years ago. Now according to Fields, Burt was working with a Lumon partner as far back as 20 years ago, and apparently feels so sure he's going to hell that he Severed as a means of penance.

In conclusion, Burt was probably one of the scientists who created the first Severance chips, alongside/under the command of Jame Eagan and did a shit ton of unethical experimentation to perfect the technology. Burt could be one of the Founding Fathers of Severance.

WHICH MEANS that Burt G and Irving B's romance was enemies who don't even know they're enemies to lovers. Because Irving B Severed for the sole pupose of taking down Lumon while opposing Severance, but ended up falling in love with the man who created it!!! And both of them weren't even aware that their Outies are essentially arch nemeses. And now they're both dead and only their Outies remain.

i think somehow reintegration interferes with the workers ability to refine the data. i'm not sure how, but perhaps the chip has something to do with the emotional response certain data triggers in the innies?

i think that's how Lumon found out about Petey, he says in s1 he was reintegrated for about 2 weeks but he was still at work until the week before the start of ep1. the reintegration process fucked with his ability to complete his work (which might be why he was able to map so much of the severed floor), and when Lumon noticed a lack of progress on his file, thats what made them suspicious of him.

I’ve think I’ve figured it out

I think I know what MDR is doing and what lumon is doing and where this story is going to go

It’s Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice dies and goes to hell, Orpheus descends down there and gets the chance to bring her back, but loses her forever because he turns round to look at her.

If mark is Orpheus, and Gemma is Euridyce, and the severed floor is hell, that means that by going down there as a severed employee Mark got a chance to bring Gemma back, but he’s going to lose it by looking back to find her. By reintegrating.

Gemma died. Like actually died. She wasn’t brain dead and intercepted by lumon. She died, mark identified the body. Somewhere between that and the cremation lumon took her.

Lumon is trying to raise the dead, presumably to bring back Kier (who’s body im sure is being preserved in some horrid cult place of worship somewhere in the depths of lumon) and has been pretty successful so far. At getting the body back. The mind is trickier, and that’s what MDR is doing. They’re tidying up brain waves, trying to bring a persons memory and conciousness back.

That’s why the files expire. The person gets too dead, their brain gets too damaged, and there’s no point trying anymore.

Gemma has been the most successful so far. She’s not just physically alive, but her brain is functioning too. Her position as wellness counsellor was an experiment to see how she interacts with other people, to see how well her consciousness is recovering

Coldharbour is her last file. When it’s done, she’ll be completely back and lumon will have successfully brought a dead person fully back to life, a major milestone for them. If it expires, she’ll be gone forever

Mark reintegrated. He’s going to be suspicious of lumon, suspicious of the work, and so caught up in looking for Gemma he won’t finish cold harbour

He looked back. So he’s going to lose her forever

okay i actually think its quite smart to have episode five play out in this way. if people watch from season one they would think that seasons 2 is completely different with its convention defying decisions, but episode 5 calling back to the office life and the mundane reality of their lives brings back the themes of season 1 so as to not go completely off the rails

additionally Mark I am forgiving you for this episode solely because of the last scene otherwise you are on THIN ice for your behaviour towards my beloved Helly. Also Burt and Irving having ham together when?
