I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.

I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.

The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.

Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.

The Broken Angel

I had this picture of "Are We Meant to read the Footnotes?" - Chapter 25 "Incandescent Core" by @riathedreamer in mind for weeks now and finally had the time to draw it.

For me, it represents the constant switch between Present Crowley and Past Kokabiel, their rage, their pain, their sadness -- the parallels between them. A part of Crowley he heavily denies, but it will always be there. This chapter is so beautifully written -- gut-wrenching and painful, but still so beautiful.

“Hi?” Michael echoed, brows furrowing in a confused frown.

“Are we not saying hi? Did we make it awkward?”

“You don’t greet the enemy,” Saraqael sighed, exasperated, from her chair.

Gabriel simply rolled his eyes at that. “Is that what you call me?”

“Did Gabriel ever speak to you about God?”

There was a warning buzz from the flies surrounding Beelzebub. Their wings moved faster than necessary, threatening to knock him over if he came too close. This was a sore subject, he knew, even for himself.

“You don’t think we have better things to discuss?” Beelzebub spat, eyes narrowing once more. “Gabriel knows what I care about. He cares about what I care about. That topic is not one of them.”

How ironic, then, for Beelzebub to be gentler than Aziraphale, who always managed to bring up the Lord, or Heaven, or the idea of good and evil, even when Crowley would rather talk about anything else. Most of the time, Aziraphale hadn’t noticed his missteps before it was far too late, and Crowley’s mood had already soured. Or sometimes, he’d pushed through on purpose, believing there was a point that he had to make, for Crowley’s sake as well.

Our Side of the Universe

We were meant to be on different sides. We were meant to stay in our role, be enemies. But in the Beginning, we were created the same. So, we turned away from that mold they put us in. We turned towards each other - slow, hesitant, always afraid of doing the wrong thing. But tell me, my darling one, how can something as pure and warm be wrong? We are two halfs of the same soul. And we found our side of the universe, here, in the embrace of love. To our World.
