SIR PERCY CRADOCK (1923-2010-).British diplomat, civil servant and sinologist who served as British Ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1978 to 1983, playing a significant role in the Sino-British negotiations which led up to the signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration in 1984. He earlier served in the Charge D’Affaires office in Beijing (then Peking) in 1966 during China’s Cultural Revolution,and later,following the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests,was the first British politician to meet with Chinese officials to maintain the Joint Declaration.
