I've thought it would be fun to write a Futurama fic (probably a short one), but I can never think of a plot. For all the years I spent watching Futurama, I never thought about stories or theories. Not like I did with Artemis Fowl and other series that I enjoyed in childhood.

In fact, it was pretty strange when I found a Futurama forum during the CC era and learned that people DO write Futurama fics and draw fan art. All my thoughts about the episodes ended when the credits rolled.

Whenever I see someone calling another show "Rick and Morty for queer people" or "Rick and Morty for girls," I'm like...yeah, I can tell that you haven't actually watched Rick and Morty.

The first one really irks me because if they watched past season one, they'd see that bi/pan is the default in this universe, even for one-off and background characters.

The second one is a little trickier because it does have two male leads, but Beth and Summer are strong women, the writers add more female characters (Space Beth and Bird Daughter), Beth and Rick crave Summer's approval, and seasons six and seven beat you over the head with the fact that Rick only respects his female relatives, plus Dr. Wong.

Not that he doesn't love Morty and Jerry, but Beth, Space Beth, Diane, Summer and Dr. Wong are on another level. He even tells Summer that outright.

But eh...I'm probably wasting my breath because anyone who gave up after the first season would think that I'm clinging to "wokeness" that isn't there.

Harmon adds: “What we’re assuming with this story is this concept that we’ve fallen back on many times where Rick considers Morty replaceable. So, this is kind of a final step in turning them into a partnership. It’s certainly not an equal partnership in every way, but they’re friends, they’re roommates — they’re kind of like Ernie and Bert.” As Marder put it, Rick went to that Smith house because he was “squatting just to try to get Rick Prime.” With that already done, he doesn’t have a lot of excuses for being there anymore, so now “he’s choosing to be there with his family.”

We certainly have plans and grand designs with him, for sure.” 

Since Dan Harmon prefers episodic writing over serialization, I'm always a little worried that Rick's development won't continue across seasons, so I'm glad that he's moving forward in season eight.
