-Trans girls are always accepted by Artemis into the Hunt

do you remember when middle school started and all the white kids started going through their “racist phase?” when i started using swear words, white kids started using racial slurs. when i started referencing memes, white kids started making nazi jokes. 

everyone likes to joke about how horrible middle school is, but no one is willing to acknowledge how traumatic it is for kids of color. we understand what racism is from the time we are little kids,–i knew what racism was before i understood what race and ethnicity were–and we understand how it feels to experience, but when white kids start to find out about racism, it’s a joke to them. 

i didn’t know any white kids in middle school who weren’t racist. the ones who didn’t use slurs or make racist jokes or find nazis and nazi propaganda funny hung out with those kids. they segregated their friend groups to the point where even white kids who were friends with kids of color wouldn’t have black friends or dark skinned friends. i experienced tokenization and microagressions and outright being called slurs and mocked for not being white the whole time i was in middle school from both other students and the school’s faculty.

i need to clarify here that i did not grow up in the south. i did not grow up in a conservative place. i did not grow up in a predominantly white place. i grew up in a racially diverse and liberal city in southern california. racism still existed there. i heard the same horrifically racist slurs and jokes and preachings as kids of color who grow up in texas do. the kids saying this shit had democrats for parents and teachers, but they were not told they were wrong for being racist. any time a teacher overheard a kid being racist,–even when a white gentile wrote an ode to hitler for our poetry unit–the kids who suffered because of their racism were told that these racists in the making would grow out of it. we had to forgive them. the authority figures were just as racist as our classmates even though our principal wasn’t white and we lived in a progressive area.

the most painful part of this experience was that i didn’t have the words to explain what was happening to me. i didn’t know it was a collective experience that other kids of color were having. i didn’t know what was so wrong with me that i was being made fun of for not looking white or for acknowledging my culture. it wasn’t until i was in the 8th grade that i finally felt seen by anyone else when i got seated with a bunch of other kids of color in algebra and they would comment on the racism they experienced and noticed in our school. that was the first time in this whole experience–in my whole life even–that i felt like i wasn’t crazy. i was right. none of us had the vocabulary that we all must have now to explain what we were experiencing, but we were all experiencing the same thing.

the white kids i was friends with back then are all around 19 now. i see some of them post about racial injustices in the world. i see some of them wear maga hats. none of them have ever apologized to me or any of the other people of color they hurt with their racism. their activism is performative at best and nonexistent at worst. what’s the point of this post? racism isn’t a phase. racism isn’t a character flaw. racism infects every aspect of our lives. racism exists everywhere. i want the white people i grew up with to understand that the internet didn’t radicalize me, you did. i was not radicalized by learning what racism is when i was 17 or by learning that racism still exists when trump was elected. i was radicalized by growing up a girl of color.

some pipabeth christmas headcanons even tho it's the 27th

au where jason is with leo and god knows where percy got yeeted to

— it was annabeths first actual christmas where she celebrated it w loved ones,, since she ran away when she was like 7 and the only good memories she had of xmas was in chb,, but even then it had never been personal yk so annabeth was kinda a grinch

— as for piper, xmas was her favorite celebration bc it was the one time her dad actually spent time to do stuff w her. eg they would bake gingerbread men together even tho they both didn't like it much

— anyway so the first christmas they spent together was just a LOT of cuddling. sitting in front of the fireplace with hot cocoa+lots of marshmallows and cringey walmart christmas movies. which also means nose kisses,, cocoa mustaches,, and a lot of kissing

— annabeth got piper an ugly xmas sweater,, while piper got annabeth matching santa hats

— which kinda led to a tradition where t he two would always wear santa hats on xmas++knit ugly ass christmas sweaters for each other

— annabeth grew to love christmas because she finally had someone to spend it with

— the second xmas, they both gifted each other w the sweaters they made. annabeth's sweater was decent,, it was red with a snowman on it,, more or less normal. pipers on the otherhand was really really weird. piper cannot knit for the life of her so her sweater ended up with a lot of lumps in them,, one sleeve was longer than the other,, and the reindeer looked more like shit. needless to say annabeth loved it a LOT.

— piper and annabeth also started a tradition of baking with each other,, but instead of gingerbread men they made cupcakes because why not

— also snowball fights ‼️‼️‼️ very critical. and then warming up together afterwards through cuddles

— the christmas tree is there for as long as possible until eventually they're forced to remove it

— did i mention decorations. because they ALWAYS buy a shit ton of them

— piper finds out annabeth has never had a proper christmas and makes it her goal to let annabeth have the best christmas ever every single year

elli's theory

so what if chris rodriguez wasn't a traitor? what if he was a spy for camp half blood?

when they found out luke was a traitor and they got information about the boat, they decided to try and send a spy to luke's side

chris and luke were probably very close since they were both two of the older hermes kids so luke was probably expecting chris to side with him

chris and clarisse were already close through classes (she probably taught him how to use a spear, cute lil hc)

when clarisse comes back from her quest she finds out no one has heard from chris and she can't reach him either. they all just assume luke found out he was a spy and murdered chris

clarisse took part in the decision to send chris out so when she finds out she is very hard on herself ("i just killed one of my best friends" typa mood) so she takes a break and goes home

what actually happened is that luke found out, but instead of being direct about it he sends chris into the labyrinth with the intent of driving him to a point of insanity and slowly killing him

another reason he does this is because he doesn't want to completely give up on his brother because he thinks chris would be useful, so luke sends chris on a mission. if chris succeeds and returns, he'll regain his place with the titans and angsty dumbasses™

since the labyrinth is weird and takes you where you think you wanna go, it leads a now insane chris to clarisse's backyard

she took him back to camp and once he was healed he gave information to help chb

- i actually liked drew. im so sorry to everyone who hates her but full offence, why. think about it this way ok, first of all drew became hc because silena died. silena was the traitor, the one who betrayed chb, yet after she died campers celebrated her as a hero? and then drew suddenly has to replace her and live up to idk that legacy she left behind,, when all of a sudden this girl named piper swoops in and takes her place. idk abt u but i wld be salty abt that too. not only that, but as an asian, the chances of drew having faced racism/bullying as a child is pretty high (she studies at brooklyn academy). which means that when she finds out shes a demigod, and arrives at chb where most of the campers are white (this is an assumption btw), she’d obviously be scared of being bullied for her skin color right?? so the first thing she wld do before the campers get to bully her is to bully them before they can do so. (sentence structure here is wack i apologize) ofc this might not even have happened, drew could have had a perfect childhood && was a b1tch for no reason, BUT EVEN THEN HER ROLE AS A BULLY WAS PRETTY VITAL BECAUSE THAT FURTHER SHOWED THE CONTRAST BETWEEN HER AND PIPER,, HIGHLIGHTING PIPER AS A HERO//GOOD CHARACTER,, AND THEREFORE MAKING READERS LIKE PIPER MORE. anyway stop hating on drew please. - travis and connor stoll r way too underrated. the two have been head counselors of the hermes cabin since luke was revealed as a traitor, can u imagine the stress? luke, the person they probably looked up to as a brother, betrayed them. and they didnt even have time to process this when they were  thrown the roles of being hcs. that would have been so stressful and i would probably have broken down if i were them. the stoll brothers taking turns to wake up at ungodly hours because a new camper is crying and homesick and terrified, the stoll brothers having to comfort and take care of new campers, having to deal with the amount of people in that cramped space because not enough campers are being claimed fast enough. having to resolve issues between campers in the hermes cabin all the time. the stolls arent just comedic relief, and we need to stop treating them as such

- carter kane and jason grace arent boring. theyre just really sweet boys who are too good for this world and yes yes yes 

- hazel and frank (especially frank) need to be hyped up more. i hardly ever see anything about them. also yall seem to forget that frank was literally made praetor and that even hecate admired hazel and was willing to fight beside her because of how powerful she was

- frazels age gap is kinda sketch but i still think theyre really cute

- annabeth isnt smarter than leo but neither is leo smarter than annabeth. ive seen a lot of discussions about who is smarter and heres my hot take on it: neither. theyre equally smart, just in different ways. leos a genius mathematically speaking. he has no issues solving math problems meant for people much, much older than him. annabeth on the otherhand, is great at strategies etc. she can make an army of 1000 more powerful than the enemy, even if theyre outnumbered. so in my opinion, both are equally as smart//u cant compare their intelligence, because their talents lie in two different areas.

- while i do agree rick riordan isnt a god and that hes bound to make mistakes,, AND that hes given us a lot of representation,, if the representation offends the people its sposed to represent, then theres a problem. im talking about piper as a poc and wearing feathers in her hair. im not a poc, so i cant speak for them on whether or not its wrong, because i dont know either. HOWEVER, i have seen multiple posts BY pocs talking about how they didnt really like rick’s representation of piper, and thats an issue. pocs have been and are still oppressed and discriminated against by many. as a white cis man, we cant really blame him for not knowing (tho he could have done a research,, asked some pocs,, idk), but by representing pocs in that manner, hes influencing impressionable kids/teens into thinking “oh pocs wear feathers in their hair all the time” etc, which isnt true. the pjo/hoo series is extremely successful, and kids who read the books will probably start forming inaccurate opinions on pocs. the amount of fan art that depicts piper with feathers in her hair dont help either. “but rick said so in the books, so its canon” yeah well rick isnt a god and he can get some things wrong at times. im not saying we should cancel him, im saying we should start educating ourselves and not spread false info like pocs wearing feathers in their hair all the time. also that snake song shit where she sang Summertime was just- yeah. bc heres the thing you can be racist, and still include minorities, but portray them in a racist way. And even then, ignorance isn’t a thing to admire. Getting those facts wrong still has a major impact. It continues to perpetuate racist stereotypes.

- the fact that most of the strong female characters in the series refuse to be “girly”, and ngl i dont really like that. just because ure girly doesnt mean u cant be strong. 

- piper would have been a great way for him to start making the strong characters act girlier, but instead he went with the “I’m not like other girls” trope which is quite obnoxious to hear constantly, and I don’t think it’s necessarily great for younger girls to read that idea growing up.  the closest we’ve ever had to a strong female character who was also into “girly” things was Silena. when I was younger I admired Piper’s “I’m not like other girls” thing, but then I got older and realized that the whole mentality of “not like other girls” is super obnoxious, and a little bit toxic

I really hate to critique and critique ricks rewriting but I absolutely HATE how he made clarisse act after the battle of Manhattan. The day the war ended her best friend died IN HER ARMS. She watched THE LIFE just go poof from her body right in front of her. She MOST DEFINETLY blamed herself because she refused to fight until silena djd what she did. She probably had survivors guilt. SHE MOST DEFINETLY FELT PAIN?? and Rick had the AUDACITY to give her the bully role YET AGAIN and gave her no personality other than “imma bully some runts and it’s my only character trait” like yes she never had her own POV bht like COME ON he just HAD TO make her go from literally HEARTBROKEN to The Bully™️ all in the same day???? That doesn’t sit right with me and it never will
