Cartoon Heroes Paper Cut-Outs
Johnny Quest
Created by Doug Wildey for Hanna-Barbera Productions Johnny Quest is an action/adventure cartoon series. Inspired by the comic strip, Terry and the Pirates and the James Bond movie, Dr. No, the series was a good deal more serious and violent than the cartoons being produced at the time. The show was the first of several Hanna-Barbera action-based shows; which would later include Space Ghost, The Herculoids, and Birdman. Alex Toth worked with Doug Wildey in created the character designs
The show centered on the adventures of Johnny Quest, an intrepid lad who is the son of an acclaimed scientist working for the government on top secret projects. Johnny’s mother died when he was a child and his father, Dr. Benton Quest has few qualms about taking his son on all manner of dangerous adventures all over the world.

Johnny lives with his adopted brother, Hadji, his pet bulldog, Bandit, and Race Bannon, a highly experienced secret agent assigned to look after Dr. Quest and his family.

The Quest’s globetrotting exploits sees them going up against foreign spies, secret organizations, smugglers and various other villains. A recurring adversary is the diabolical Dr. Zin, Dr. Quest’s counterpart of an unspecified Asian power.
Johnny Quest premiered in September of 1964. It was followed by a number of sequel series and animated television specials.
