The evolution of one of my older characters

She’s around eight years old I believe. Started out as a Wof OC but now she’s a character in my original graphic novel.

Deciding the let the cows be cartoony and not strictly realistic was delightful. Some fantasy stories will make the sapient characters all cartoonified and then have wild animals be completely realistic and it throws me off quite often. Let the dumb animals make silly funny expressions.

Finally getting around to planning how a few of my character’s major injuries will actually affect them.

TW: Fresh wound art and explanation

Princess Marigold is a character in Up and Over. She appears near the end as a prisoner with a crystal infection. When Turmoil attempts to remove the crystal, it explodes, leaving a hole in her next with a few exposed vertebrae. It heals over eventually partly due to medical care and partly due to magic healing properties (Still trying to figure that bit out without it being just ‘oh magic that’s it’)

I may have cooked something up but I always need to sit on it for a month or two.

But I think my new sona may be a Blackbird.

I wanna make a sona so bad but none of the things I think of represent me enough.

I could make multiple but if I have any more than two they don’t feel genuine to me anymore.

I don’t even know why animal id choose, and shapeshifters haven’t worked for me before.

Trying to contain my abstract sense of self and identity into one or two designs isn’t as easy as I would like it to be.

The way most autism literature describes "literal interpretation" is often not at all similar to how I experience it. Teenage me even thought I couldn't be autistic because I've always been able to learn metaphors easily.

In fact, I love wordplay of all kinds. Teenage me was fascinated to learn all the types of figurative language there are in poetry and literature.

But paperwork and questionnaires are hard, because there's so much they don't state clearly. Or they don't leave room for enough nuance.

"List all the jobs you've had, with start and end dates." What if I don't remember the exact day or month? Is the year enough?

"Have you been suffering from blurred vision?" Well, if I take off my glasses the whole world is blurred, but I'm fairly sure that's not what the intake form at the optometrist is asking.

Or the infamous (and infuriatingly stereotypical) "Would you rather go to a library or a party?" What sort of party? Where? Who's there? I work at a library. Am I currently at the library for work or pleasure? Does it have a good collection?

It's not common figures of speech that confound me. It's ambiguity, in situations that aren't supposed to be ambiguous.

Planning on making a simple ethnicity chart for some of the Nyikins with larger populations (I could probably think of at least 30 total and that would kill me to draw each one) but for now here’s a five minute sketch

Nyikins now have two giant feathers on their hips for social display. I’ve also changed their tails to be thicker and end in a stump instead of a point.

This particular guy has short wings but some can grow large enough wings for gliding or even powered flight occasionally. Their large fellas though so it’s not too common.
