"Did I see that couple definitely going to go fuck in the science lab?" Rina enquired, somewhat rhetorically. "I saw it. Just wished I didn't." Not that they were against free love and all that bullshit, but considering how bent out of shape Rina's heart was, she didn't feel like she wanted to see it right now.

"We should probably get going before the moaning starts," Screwing their face up, Rina motioned back towards the party. "Come on, let's go grab a drink."

eleanor wasn't exactly sure if it was a good idea to go to the prom since she just got back in town last month and she's still trying to settle back in aurora bay. but it seemed like such a nostalgic event that she couldn't quite pass up. always the people watcher, her eyes widened a little at the sight before her. Rina had throughly distracted by their phone, definitely not going through a particular ex's Instagram to check there wasn't some relationship that they had missed, when Gwen approached. Placing the phone in the pocket of their suit pants, Rina gave had a quick look around. "Uh.." her head shakes a little before their gaze meets back to Gwen's. "Did you try the band room? He was always hiding out in there in high school."

Rina always hated high school. The cliques, the bullshit, even the smell of this place made them feel sick — it was no wonder they had dropped out. The only reason for the musician's return was currently on the dancefloor. There was no right, no obligation, no reason for Phoebe to give Rina the time of day, but it didn't stop their eyes from meeting across the room a few times. Knowing Uly was around made it easier to not go back on the promise they had made, but it was insane to feel this alone surrounded by so many people.

As Phoebe broke away from her dance partner to head towards the bar, Rina did the same. It wasn't subconscious by any means, it was fully intentional but could be explained away if anyone asked. Casting a quick look over their shoulder, paranoid that Uly would actualize, Rina moved to be side by side with her.

"You've got my vote for prom queen."

The comment on not ditching friends stings, not because Harris would ever turn his back on his friends, but rather because Rina knows that they had. Everything outside of this new life they'd built in LA fell the sidelines and now the consequences needed to be paid.

"You're a better friend than I deserve," Rina tells him, knowing that Harris likely wouldn't accept the compliment.

Rina's conversation with Juni hadn't gone nearly as bad as they had anticipated, which had probably more to do with Rina's current situation than any kind of forgiveness. That was still a work in progress. "If you've moved on, there's no reason to talk to her." A statement that was likely easier said than done in this town.

Harris had changed a lot over the years. Dipping from highs to lows in his life and his attitude was sort of impacted at where he was. For a long time he’d been miserable. With a wall built up and a body that he was trying to repair if he wanted to be able to enjoy life again. He didn’t hold a grudge on Rina. He wanted them to be happy and he always did at all points of his life. “ Anytime. Like I said I missed the hell out of you. I’m just really happy to see you again “

He noted that Rina didn’t discuss whether or not things were okay and so Harris decided to circle back around that later. “ - I have “ Harris says. His voice growing a bit more quiet. “ I never know what to say to her anymore. I’ve moved on but I can’t help but still feel like she screwed us all over “ @rinaxchiron

Taking out an airpod as someone approaches them, the thought occurs to simply retreat and ignore. But this woman doesn't seem dodgy, and some good karma would be welcome right about now.

"I'm not bothered," Rina says, despite their face saying otherwise. "Depends what the favor is. I don't have any cash." Not that they looked like they needed it, but it felt better to set expectations out up front.

You’d think she’d have given it much more thought when she’d seen the battery life on her phone depleting. Asked for a charger or even ended her night a little earlier to ensure she’d be able to make it home. It’s her fault for assuming that it’d be easy despite only being in Aurora Bay for a little over a week. It’s when she’s walking down the streets of the town do they seemingly appear foreign to her under the mask of the night. Safiye had only managed to make it a couple feet and about two (maybe even three) before letting realization fully sit.

She had no idea where she was going.

Admitting early defeat, the brunette back pedals back to where she’d come from as eyes scanned for anyone who looked like they’d give her the time of day (or night). “Hey, I don’t mean to bother you,” she begins, lips curling up in a sheepish grin as she spots a possible savior, “But you think you can do me a favor?”

Rina cuts a laugh, despite herself. While the particular vice that caused their skin to itch was much stronger than alcohol, more than a couple of drinks was a steep nosedive into relapse territory these days.

"Help how?" Rina asks with genuine curiosity. "You gonna keep my nose out of a bag?"

"I'd be a pretty shit sponsor if you're off alcohol too with the amount of wine at my place," Victoria admitted, nearly snorting in response. She wasn't fit to be anyone's sponsor anyway. Tori didn't react to the attitude, she was really quite used to it from Rina whether they were on good or bad terms.

"Looks like you're a bit of a mess, Rina." It seemed like a true statement and she wasn't gonna sugarcoat it for them. "You're not usually one to let things get to you, so I'm here to help." @rinaxchiron

It felt like a test, one that Rina's two and a half NA meetings couldn't really help with. The temptation to call up their old dealer, jump off the wagon they'd only just hopped on. It itched under their tattoo-covered skin, needing to be scratched.

Blowing out a low whistle, Rina tried to think of a better alternative than throwing away what little progress she'd made.

"What should we do?" Syrena asked the person nearest to her, not even taking a moment to glance and see who it was. "I am bored and I need somebody to entertain me before I literally die of boredom." Never did Syrena think she would so desperate for another person's company but she truly just needed to not be alone. "Horseback riding, ice skating, swimming, bar hopping.. anything!" She sighed. "You were literally be my hero and I will forever be indebted to you."

Rina doesn't point out that a person who was truly fine didn't feel the need to point it out twice in one sentence, but she chooses to bite the inside of her cheeks instead. The silence was shortlived as Phoebe continued on.

"You really want to jump back in like I didn't break your heart?" Phoebe's heart wasn't the only one that got broken but it was easy to numb it all. With work, with drugs, with other women. Whatever worked long enough to get through the night.

"I don't trust myself to not fuck it all up again. I don't want to hurt you and I know you would just.. let me."

There was no point in telling her that it was for her own good. There was nothing else to say that would make it better.

"I'm fine. He doesn't need to protect me from you like you're some kind of evil person who came back to town to ruin my life. I'm fine," she repeats. Is she trying to convince herself or Rina? Unclear. Of course, she was a little hurt. A lot hurt, maybe. That was all overshadowed by Rina's presence, though. Given how few people Phoebe considered family, completely dismissing her relationship with Rina felt like a loss she didn't want to deal with.

"Right. So, it's not enough that Uly thinks he can dictate what I do with my life and who I want to be around, now you're taking my choice away, too," Phoebe snaps, feeling Rina slipping through her fingers again. "I know I seem a little naive and blindingly optimistic sometimes, but I am capable of deciding what's good for me and what isn't. I don't need... this."

"Whatever. You've already made up your mind, so what's the point in me trying to convince you of anything?" @rinaxchiron

"I'm sure it didn't help, but whatever." Mack being pissy was his own prerogative and Rina wasn't going to deny him whatever he wanted to feel. Sideswiping the apology, they weren't sure it was all that sincere, but who could ever tell with Juni? Rina had thought she'd known her in the past, considered her more like a sister and yet..

Maybe this was how everything felt about them now. Foreign.

Stuck in a friendless purgatory, a town that no longer felt like home, Rina couldn't tell if it could get worse. Mandatory talk therapy might be up for contention though.

"No one is checking my piss, I guess—" Rina agreed half-heartedly. "That is a plus." A moment of pause, a prickling feeling that she was supposed to be civil.

"Is everything okay with your family?"

fighting wasn't in her nature; she had always been someone whose reaction to almost every outpouring of emotion was tears (much to her frustration (which was only another emotion that added to the tears and created a vicious loop)). so, when their conversation calmed somewhat, juniper was thankful not to feel she was navigating verbal landmines. "yeah, I would say he's pumped that I'm here. sorry if that caused him to be especially nasty to you or anything."

a soft nod accompanied the other's words as they explained the situation. "I mean, at least you don't have, like, a nurse checking up on you every twenty minutes or something like that. could be worse."
