Critique (a)
1) engage the user, play video
- it’s about how the user experiences things differently? (subjective)
a. how do you measure how much people are affected, not assumptions
in lap’s mind it’s the content, the app is jut the device to deliver the film to people, think about if the way the app can be involved in the user
1. in terms of research get the questions you’re going to ask / at least a sample and see if it gets a reaction, does it change them? does it make them realize something?
2. what can this app as a platform that’s not just a medium, the interaction itself gives agency to the user
______________
Q. is this just a VR movie? Or is this more? Structurally is it just a movie or is it more?
- People like it better with the questions at the beginning and the end, and movie in between / people answering questions and having their own sort of beliefs, feelings like it doesn’t relate, then going through the video and experiencing the video and the video either changes you or reinforce the opinions previously stated
- Is there a way the app provides you with a video or different scenarios every week, ( why does someone need this? or want this? and would they need it again? could the app be a vehicle to do it again and again and again )
- stop focusing on the content but more as the construct and platform
what is this app as a platform?
What does this provide?

Research (c)
An experience that can cause social disruption, why were people so uncomfortable with “her” and ai love? why are people uncomfortable with love over the internet?

Cardboard VR app examples:

MAIN SCREEN: it will have a type identity of it’s own / main screen where it just says “yes” , click it and it will begin the questions. A set of 5 questions and then the film begins. And then once the movie ends it’s over. A performance. The benefit of the doubt for a user / viewer that is coming just for this

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:
In the movie Her (2013) directed by Spike Jonz there are two main characters, the man and the ai, but in reality we relate so much to the experience because he is the viewer/user and the voice is the only real true character,
(https://www.theverge.com/2013/12/16/5216522/can-humans-love-computers-sex-robots-her-spike-jonze )
even is Samantha is simply a voice, and even if my narration of the film is the only character, this “voice” can a user be made to believe it’s real beyond the suspension of disbelief?
Maybe the questions are before the film (all of them) and once the film is done they’re asked again and a user can see how their actions changed, I feel like questions during would disrupt the flow of the cinemagraphic narrative
- having 3 voices options with all the same story, one audibly female (english), male (english), and one in Korean.
making a voice attractive: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/24/attractive-voice-study-surprising_n_4824266.html
- how do I tell a story without visible characters?
- can I make an audience fall in love without ever mentioning the word “love” and can someone fall in love without even meeting or seeing someone?

- manipulating people’s emotions through cinema:

How it feels to love and lose and the benefit of the doubt the user needs to do to take the experience seriously. But humans believe what they want to believe it’s basic psychology. Make a movie that makes a user feel wanted and loved and safe and feel things and have an intimate experience with themselves.

APP IDEA
An interactive immersive VR film based on manipulating the user’s emotion and reaction to the film by letting their choices before the film define the environment they are in and how the film plays out. The changes will be in the form of text that will be in some area of each scene. The questions are unrelated to the content of the film directly but are related to the character of the user themselves morally and socially.
