Simblr Bingo Question!
What made you want to become part of the simblr community?
It all started for me with an algorithm suggestion on YouTube for @rinseesims Ultimate Decades Challenge. SO GOOD, I don't have enough words for how good this series is, and if you can stomach the UDC and it's massive death tolls for all ages, I dare you to watch and not get into it. It has romance, an erratic heir to the throne, and Leoric Weild, who I placed into my In Bloom save in the background and is truly an iconic sim of Rinsee's creation. She's on hiatus at the moment, but without this series I wouldn't have known about Simblr at all.
I pre-ordered Sims 4 in 2014, played it for a month, maybe, when it first came out, and went back to Sims 3 for the next decade, never needing to update the game, glitch-free, totally happy, mod settings perfect. It was blissful ignorance, but I had my beloved open world with no neighbourhood loading screens.
Rinsee's series showed me what I was missing and got me back into Sims 4 in a BIG way. I realized as I got into mod and cc hunting that Simblr was the place I could connect with people who would feed my interest in this content I'd become engrossed in, and the rest is very recent history!

Hello! I was watching your ultimate decades challenge videos (which I Love) and saw that whenever a side of woman would get into labor you get a pop up notification on the screen and you can choose to go to their household. What mod is that?
HEY THERE! i'm sorry this is 11 days late. this hiatus has been a doozy. but the mod is actually mc command center!

A photograph of young Winifred, aged 7, dated February 13th, 1876
This photograph was gifted to Winifred by her Uncle Harry who found it in a compartment of his father's desk, indicating Herbert & Alice remained in contact even after she was cast out of the Bloomsburg family.

Dearest Marmee,Ā
I must thank you once again for recommending the tickets to the theatre. We have been home about a month now and my wife has not stopped gushing about it to anyone who will listen. I knew she had the soul of a poet but I could have never guessed how much that evening would mean to her.
We were the last to arrive, nearly missing the admissions, as we had stopped off to have our portrait taken there in London. But after all, how could we miss the opportunity to be photographed in our finest clothes, and so in my opinion anyway, we were only fashionably late!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will admit only to you, some of the play went above my head, but my Winifred, oh how she laughed throughout the entirety of the performance. She understands things like this you see, and I suppose your Jo is likely the same; I think it is something engrained in all the great writers of the world to be able to understand why the curtains are yellow and not blue.Ā
And boy, does my wife admire Mr. Wilde. She truly believes he will go down in history as one of the greats. She is very fond of all his work, and she suspects we should expect more excellence out of him before his career is finished.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite feeling a little out of my depth, I enjoyed myself all the same, especially after Winifred explained that the play mocks the wealthy in subtle ways. Mr. Tree, the gentlemen who played Lord Illingworth, is a galant man taking a slap from Mrs. Arbuthnot that way; how the sound of the sting echoed throughout the entire hall! I was downright shocked, and my wife in stitches, finding it absolutely hilarious.Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At once the show finished, and as Mr. Tree and Mrs. Beere took their bows, everyone cheered for their outstanding talent, and I do believe my wife applauded harder than anyone else in that audience. The show was a treasure, and I trust it will be remembered for generations to come. However, what I will remember most, is my Winifred.
And while everyone marveled at the actors, I couldn’t keep from marveling at my wife instead. Her beauty, her cleverness, her whimsical laughter and dazzling smile, and most of all, her natural aptitude to understand the work...aside from the day we wed, I can't think of a time she has ever appeared more beautiful to me, or more herself.
It was though she belonged there, amongst others who appreciate literature, and my, I can't help thinking what it would be like to sit in that theatre and see her work performed on the stage instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had hoped that our viewing of ā€˜A Woman of No Importance’ would give her the confidence she needs to be published. It would truly be a shame for the world not to know her work; I encourage gently, but she is stubborn, you see and hardly allows me to read it. She does not recognize her own talent.
Since we've been home though, I have found her early in the morning, asleep at her typewriter more times than I can count. So at the very least, I am pleased to see her passion burning inside once again. Now...if I could only find a way to ignite it.
Yours Sincerely, Lawrence

When the new year began, the days seemed to breeze past them the closer they got to Winifred's due date. By March, she had outgrown most of her clothing, only being able to comfortably fit into her new maternity gown, but she hardly seemed to mind too much. Her only concern these days was the baby coming into the world safely and with Millie's promise to stay and help, she was confident everything would be alright.
As the baby began to migrate south, the discussion of whether or not they would be welcoming another son or daughter became a daily topic of conversation. They'd banter back and forth playfully, insisting they were right and the other wrong, but Lawrence never told Winifred why he was uncertain he was ready for another little girl.
Before Lawrence went off to work each day, he would tell their little one, "now you wait until I'm back, alright?", speaking to the fact he feared missing the birth. To which Winifred would tell her belly, "you come when you're ready."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the day finally did arrive, Lawrence was off at the pub working his late shift and Winifred sent Beth along to retrieve him. She had almost forgotten how painful labor had been previously, even without the same complications as last time.
Once it started becoming almost unbearable, Millie wrapped her arms around her and began humming softly in her ear while they slowly rocked back and forth. Nothing could truly reduce the discomfort within Winifred's lower abdomen but Millie's soothing presence helped to put her mind at ease while she spoke in gentle voices, guided her breathing and tried to help relax her body.
Eventually though, even the sweetest of lullabies couldn't distract from the pain and sweat began pooling on Winifred's forehead.
Tumblr media
Lawrence finally came bursting through the door nearly three hours after Winifred's waters had first broken. He smiled ear to ear at first, excited to meet the newest Baudelaire. But when he saw Winifred's face writhed up in pain, he rushed to her side immediately. "Oh, my wife! I'm terribly sorry, I came as soon as I could!"
"You came just in time," Millie reassured him, "but we can't delay any longer. Winifred, it's time to start pushing." Millie directed them into their places, remaining calm the entire time as they prepared to bring this new little one into the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"One more good push, honey, you're almost there." Millie assured her after hours of pushing.
With all her might, Winifred used what remained of her strength to follow Millie's instructions, gripping Lawrence's hand with her own and gave what she hoped would be the last push they needed to deliver this baby.
Over the echo of blood pumping in her ears, she finally heard it, the heartwarming sound of a newborn taking it's first breaths of life; their little one crying in Millie's arms. Relief washing over her, Winifred settled back against Lawrence's chest while her heartbeat slowly began to steady itself back to normal rhythm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Millie coddled the baby in her arms, counting ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes as she began preparing to bring him over to the washbasin to clean him off. She had helped bring hundreds of babies into the world, but none had ever felt quite like this before.
Nearly overcome with emotion, she turned to face the Baudelaire's and informed them that Lawrence had been right after all - they were welcoming another son. After processing what Mille had said, Lawrence couldn't help but to notice the way his body let out a breath, not even realizing he'd been holding it in.
Silently, he wondered if Winifred felt any disappointment in the news.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If she did, she didn't show it. After dressing him in a white, laced gown and warm bonnet, Millie passed the baby over to his parents. Winifred was beyond exhausted, but her readiness to hold her baby seemed to outweigh any fatigue she felt.
Both of them were immediately charmed, unable to stop smiling between kissing the little one's head and booping his tiny nose.
"Welcome to the world, Atticus Baudelaire." Lawrence whispered.

Spring 1916
Will Sewell had always loved the outdoors: the smell of new grass and fresh turned earth; the sound of birds singing and waves lapping at the shore; the feel of the sun on his face and the earth underfoot. Since he’d begun spending time with Clara, he had always tried to share this love with her: walks by the inlet, a small piece of glass worn smooth by the sea, a posy of wildflowers that caught his eye.
Of all his haunts, Cavalier Cove was by far Will's favorite. The ocean lived up to its name here, crashing wildly against the rocks and when the sun hit the swells the dark ocean lit up in brilliant blues, greens, and every shade in between. And there, perched at the horizon was Deadgrass Isle, his mother's birthplace and home until she had left it to marry his father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So on this special evening, Will had chosen Cavalier Cove to bring Clara to — for what better place was there for such a momentous occasion? The seagrass swayed merrily in the breeze as the couple picked their way to the shore. The setting sun threw the colors of the world into bright oranges and reds, and Clara, turning to look at him, looked cast in bronze in the light.
He took a deep breath, willing his heart to beat normally, and before he could think another thought, sank to one knee.Ā
ā€œClara,ā€ he said, lifting the small box. The ring glinted in the fading light. ā€œWould you do me the honor of becoming my wife?ā€ He smiled up at her, feeling more sure than he ever had before, that this was the right choice — that Clara was the right choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last touch of the sun was slipping behind the horizon, the golden light that had suffused the beach muting quickly to the deep blue of twilight. Clara was no longer gilded from the sun’s rays; the gloaming had thrown her face in shadow.
"I’m sorry... but no, I can’t accept right now.ā€
He blinked. The waves, which had been a gentle rumble, now deafened his ears. His knee hurt, there was something in the sand that was poking him. He blinked again, the words were wrong, not what he had expected at all.Ā
He stood up jerkily, his cheeks burning, despite the chill of the breeze. She was speaking, apologies, platitudes, her hands fluttering, bright white in the twilight, like the wings of a seabird he thought idly. He offered her his arm mechanically; he felt her eyes on him, but he didn’t particularly want to look at her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As he walked her home, the spring peepers were the only sounds besides their boots on the soft ground. For once, Will was glad of Clara’s quietness.
After leaving Clara at her kitchen door — still studiously ignoring her gaze — Will wandered, only taking note of his surroundings when he almost walked straight into the inlet. The moon hung low in the sky, and as it rose into the heavens Will felt his anger and embarrassment lift as well. He was left with a solitary emotion coursing through him like floodwaters in the spring: relief.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A new year began with fresh crops sown into the dry ground of Strangerville. After months of irrigation and soil monitoring, Zelda had expected this harvest to spring to life much more easily than the first. Only compared to the dark ground of England, which had always seemed to come back to life after the spring rain, life here seemed utterly unwilling to offer any help to the people struggling to get by, even as their next batch of crops sprung tenuously from the ground.
As she worked on them day after day, Zelda tried to listen for her father’s voice as she once did, only the cacophony coming from her own mind just kept growing louder. It’s barren. The soil is barren. Just stop trying, there’s no point. Just give up. But she couldn’t. Not for herself or Gio or her family. She had to keep tilling, even if every movement was heavier than the last. Each month as the small plants struggled to grow again, the voice grew louder, until it was hard to remember what all this work was for or that she had succeeded once before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zelda bent down into the compacted sand, reaching for a weed as she tried to throw herself into the work and quiet her mind. But the dry brown leaves were so unlike the verdant green stems of months before that the voice in her mind grew even more desperate. Just because it happened once doesn’t mean it’s going to happen again. Sometimes that’s all it has to give. Sometimes there’s nothing left. Just give up.
A voice calling her name somewhere from the driveway tried to break through her reveries, but she was lost in the rocky soil as it ran through her fingers back over the dry plants, Just give up. Isn’t she enough? He loves her. You love her. Just give up, be happy.Ā
ā€œZelda!ā€ She lifted her eyes to see Gio at the fence, a large smile on his face as he waved his hands excitedly. She stood and brushed the soil from her hands but not the thoughts from her mind as she moved to follow him across the yard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His steps were filled with purpose and vigor as he walked through the farmyard, calling out to Jo as he passed the house. She emerged with tired, disinterested eyes just as he reached the bed of his truck, lifting up a wooden box he had there and parading it through the farmyard proudly.
Under the watchful eyes of two exhausted woman, he set the crate down onto the ground as though it were more precious than gold. Moments later two hens walked out into the orange sand, their white feathers gleaming against it brightly. Zelda gasped and clapped her hands, the sheer sight of hope quieting her mind temporarily. But from the shadowed safety of the porch, Jo looked down at their devilish eyes and murderous claws with disdain, ā€œA chicken, Gio? Where in the hell did that come from?ā€
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gio was seemingly unaffected by her aversion, ā€œChickens, Jo, chickens! I mean hell, we’ve lucked out now, you know that? I was down at the feed store, when I got to talking to a family who’s about to head West on the route. They were worried about takin’ them since they couldn’t feed ā€˜em but it’s not like killin’ them woulda done any good either. Then I remembered all those jars and preserves the both of you madeā€¦ā€
As he went on it about how he had negotiated both of the chickens in exchange for bushels of dried corn and jarred peppers, it became clearer to Jo what a victory this was not only for them, but for him. He had brought this home like a prize won for them, a small contribution to give their lives ease. She felt her hatred of the hideous creatures begin to shift in favor of love for him, only for him to look back at Zelda and then at her, ā€œBut none of it would have been possible without either of you and all your work.ā€
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What was left of her desire to walk away and ignore the sight before her melted at the gratitude in his voice, and she finally left the recess of the porch to walk to him. For a moment she looked up at him, forgetting that Zelda was there as she let him wait for some form of praise from her. Then a small smirk broke through her unreadable expression and she pointed over his shoulder, ā€œI do adore them, so long as I’m not the one to tend to their beady little eyes.ā€
Gio responded with a wide smile, and for a moment Zelda was distracted by the way they looked at one another as they laughed, so familiar and laden with meaning that it made her wistful; but then the glimmer of white feathers caught her eye yet again. The chickens pecking at the dry ground didn’t look like prehistoric horrors to her. They looked like hope, like her mother’s prized flock or mornings without hunger. Maybe even birthday cakes for her daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her thoughts were interrupted by Violette herself, who stormed out of the house like a tornado at the first whiff of novel hubbub outside her window. She saw the chickens walking in the sand and gasped, excited by their quick movements and new presence. ā€œAre they ours, Momma? Can I play with them?ā€
Before Zelda could say a word Violette ran forward, as unafraid as any farm child but without any of the knowledge that Zelda and her siblings had possessed in their youth. Zelda felt the paralyzing wave of anxiety that she always did when she was meant to discipline Violette. She needed to tell her to stop, to show her how to handle the chickens properly and not to be so dangerously brash. Only she couldn’t seem to find the words, and part of her knew that even if she did, Violette would ignore them anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But before she could even take a step, Jo was in Violette’s path. Whatever aversion she had for the small creatures moments before was now gone as she stepped between them and the brash child threatening to pick them up and be scratched bloody by their overexcited claws. Violette looked around her aunt’s legs wondering if she could make a run for it, but Josephine’s stern glare was enough to stop her from even trying.
Zelda watched them as Jo shut down all of Violette’s attempts to bargain with her, the same coy looks and innocent smiles that worked on her father and she didn’t even bother using on her mother. Finally, defeated, Violette let Josephine grab her hand to guide her after the chickens to watch them from a distance. Before they walked away, Josephine looked back to Zelda as though to say, I’ve got her. Don’t worry.
Zelda returned her wordless reassurance with a grateful smile, one less fear on her mind as the lifeless soil called. Because she had to keep trying, just as much for herself as everyone else. Only it was a bit easier now knowing that Jo was there, that she wasn’t alone in raising Violette and that both of them were in this life trying in their own way. Even if they didn’t fully understand exactly what the other was struggling toward, at least they had that.

ellexplays gshade preset by ellexplays
introducing my first ever gshade preset! i have been using this preset during my most recent gameplays/videos.
i love this preset because it doesn't add too much of a heavy filter to the game (imo) - more just pulls out the colors and shadows to give it a realistic look. i hope you all like it!
*no other lighting mods in the pictures, this is all just the preset :) so if you have lighting mods installed, it may look different in your game
tou: feel free to tweak it to your liking for personal use, but do not reupload/claim it as your own.
If you use this, feel free to tag me because I would love to see it!! šŸ¤
