George and Ruby's outfits going into the 1890s represent the odd dichotomy of their new lives. On one hand, they live a relatively "simple" life on Ruby's father's farm, and are compelled to dress practically, in simple, sturdy clothes, in order to support a lifestyle of hard labor. On the other hand, they have Moses's consistent financial support - less so cash, more often in the form of lavish gifts, especially of expensive clothing. They often have multiple outfits for the same occasion, one more expensive, and one more practical.

George in particular has taken to Moses's habit of giving gifts. George finds the promise of wealth infinitely appealing, and although he hasn't yet obtained said wealth, Moses's expensive presents often make him feel as if he has. Because of this influence from his father-in-law, George's outfits have also trended more towards Moses's all-black color scheme, becoming darker in color and adding in more blues and jewel tones, to replace George's teenage greens and yellows. He dresses in Moses's gift-clothing whenever possible, only returning to more practical garments while working on the farm.

Ruby, on the other hand, seems discomforted by the expensive clothes her father throws at her. Her hunger for independence and identity tends to push her away from making use of his gifts, no matter how lovely. She does dress up when he asks her to, or when the situation arises, but otherwise Ruby favors sturdy, comfortable, practical clothing. Some of her outfits do retain her teenage greens and yellows, especially those given to her by Moses, but the majority of her clothes are in a soft, neutral color palette, made up of mostly creams and browns. Still, Ruby does have a taste for drama, and what she lacks in fashionable clothing, she makes up for in her variable, expressive hats, often covered in flowers or feathers.

Dear Mother,

My journey to the island with Aleyn and his family has been a success. The lighting on our new plot of land makes the necklace Aleyn gave me as dowry shine so beautifully. We've started to work on building our home. Tomorrow, Aleyn and I will visit the local market to purchase some animals for the farm.

Though it is spring, snow is still falling here. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about the cold affecting our settling in. I haven't voiced my concerns to Aleyn as I don't want him to worry. However, I have noticed his parents seem to have some anxieties.

I know soon it will be time to start trying for a baby. There is something I'm nervous for! I wish so badly to be a good mother. Were you nervous before you had me?

I know you're only a boat's ride away, but now that I'm here it feels like forever. I already miss you. Hopefully, this will reach you soon.

While hunting game to feed his family, Lucan gets himself injured, comes home, and promptly passes out on the kitchen floor, face down in the very sanitary medieval dirt. The next morning, when he's feeling a bit better, Avice drops by to check on her brother's budding meadery business.

Lucan does not tell her about the previous night's... incident. Some things need not be spoken of.

i've been playing the sims 4 ultimate decades challenge and it's completely absorbed my life. here are my virtual blorbos: Lucan Gauthier, his wife Eusebia, and his 17-year-old sister Avice. The amount of medieval shenanigans they have gotten up to so far is frankly worrying.

1314 - A Shocking Loss

As the year begins and springtime returns, Sir Amis arranges for his son Tobias to be engaged to a rich heiress from Willow Creek, Marie Moreau. She visits the Verviers manor with her mother to meet Tobias, but neither of them are impressed with the other, and the betrothal is off to a rocky start.

To complicate matters, Lucan discovers that his father has cut him out of his will and only plans to leave the bare minimum to Gemma to allow her to survive with her two sons after his death. Lucan suspects that this means his father is on to them or may even already know of their affair, and so he pressures Gemma to speak to Tobias and convince him to break off his engagement to Marie.

Lucan believes that if Tobias is married and their father passes away, Tobias will claim the land and manor to raise his family there, and Gemma and Lucan will be left penniless. If he remains unmarried, however, he might yet allow Gemma and Lucan to stay at the manor with him after his father's passing.

Gemma, knowing that Tobias is her best chance at being taken care of as long as he is in love with her, seduces him and convinces him to speak to his father about the engagement. Tobias, completely in love with Gemma, gets into an argument with his father over the betrothal. Before they can speak to Marie and her mother to officially break things off, however, several people in the household fall ill and are bedridden for days.

Lucan and Tobias both pull through, but Gemma passes away, leaving everyone shocked and her sons inconsolable. Heartbroken, Tobias ultimately consents to marrying Marie and moves to Willow Creek, while Lucan remains at his father's side, secretly unsure whether Gemma's sons might be his.

Amis, who had begun to doubt Gemma's loyalty, regrets not trusting her and has difficulty accepting that his much younger wife has passed away before he did. He resolves to care and provide for their two sons as well as he can, but given his advancing age, he begins to worry about who their guardian will be once he is gone, unsure he can trust Lucan with the task. With Gemma's death having given him a new perspective on things, he attempts to reconcile with Lucan, with whom he has always had a rocky relationship.

In Windenburg, the Barrow family celebrates Stefanie and Adrianna's birthdays and the birth of another child, Alyson. Frederik and Rosemary agree that this will be their last child, and thank the Watcher for a home full of healthy children. News of Gemma's death reaches them, and Frederik mourns the passing of his little sister with Cecilia.

As the year ends, Frederik sits with Rosemary and admits that he is worried about the state of the farm. After the torrential rains and cold weather of the past year, barely anything has grown, and from what he has heard from their neighbours, they have been struggling as well. With a home full of children to feed, Rosemary and Frederik cannot help worrying about what the future holds.

In the summer of 1322, near the time of the harvest, Delia aged up into a child. She had always been an active toddler, and that manifested into a rather rambunctious childhood. Delia is always exploring the world around her, fascinated by nature and the animals that lived within it. She was already proving herself to be a clever and beautiful girl. It surprised Leif just how much Delia looked like their mother. Out of all the Broughton kids, Delia was the youngest when Eydis died and is constantly asking Leif and Wilkin to tell stories of her mother.

Good evening all! 

I am trying my hand at modding after being inspired by all the fantastic modders out there in the community. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be playing my history challenge (or building or cc-shopping or just existing) and think, this would make a great mod: For example,  I wondered if there was a way that I could tweak the pregnancy system to allow a “cooldown” for 2-3 sim days after sims give birth to echo more realistic pregnancy experiences. Does it exist already? Possibly! But there is SO much out there and the history challenge is heavily story based - which means things can get really specific! Another example: a bedrest function for expecting or chronically ill sims. Again, it may already exist and it also may be so niche and (pointless) that no one else cares but maybe, just maybe, it scratches your historic itch as well! 

Help me use this post as a running sticky note of helpful resources and if you’d be so kind, share in the comments a mod suggestion that you’d love to see enhance your historic gameplay, the “niche-ier” the better.

After Michiko and Amir come Georges and Francine Marseille, the classic enigmatic twins of the school. Born in the French countryside to an aging father and a distant mother, the twins spent most of their childhood years in various boarding schools, scattered across Europe. Instead of this experience making them snobbish, it has given the twins a remarkably humble outlook, reflected in their dress. Georges - or Marseille, as most refer to him - dresses simply, but incredibly well. Although his wardrobe doesn't scream "money" in the same way that Michiko's does, his clothes are high-quality and finely tailored, if a bit on the simpler side. The only time he really starts to show off is in his formalwear, when Marseille flashes a bit of an inner, more fun-loving personality. Otherwise, he remains stoic and well-mannered. Boring, according to some, but it generally suits him quite well.

Marseille's twin sister Francine is an odd one out, for certain. With her short hair and fondness for men's fashion, Francine fits right in with the masculine dress trends of the late Victorian period. Although she's willing to wear women's clothes when she must, Francine is far happier in a pair of pants and a top hat, and that's mostly what she's seen wearing when out and about. Akin to that of her brother, Francine's wardrobe is simple and high-quality, and she favors neutral earth tones, especially browns and creams. She's not one for frills or flounces, and her clothes are only highly-decorated when they're required to be.

The Rowntrees Ultimate Decades Challenge - 1362

Content warning: child death (fake children it's the sims)

In 1362, the Rowntrees were mostly focused on making money and keeping up with their rent and taxes. However, lucky (and unlucky) birthdays still managed to strike.

The chickenpox was still hitting Jacquette and Ursula hard in the winter of 1362, and they were both agonized. As the weeks went on Jacquette began slowly recovering, but Ursula just seemed to get sicker and sicker.

Ursula became so tired she would randomly pass out. The family took Ursula to one of the wise elders in the village, who said what they already knew in the back of their minds: Ursula's little body was not strong enough to survive this disease. The family concentrated on making Ursula's last months of life as happy as possible.

Sarah played with her, and she got to spend a lot of time with her sister Jacquette.

One night at the beginning of spring, Ursula peacefully passed away during her sleep. The entire family mourned. Of course, young kids dying was common, but after Alexandria died during Ursula's birth, little Ursula was one of the only signs of hope in the Rowntrees' lives.

Jacquette was especially affected by the death. After that day, she became much quieter than she was before, and preferred to be by herself. She greatly missed her best friend. The family hoped her grief would heal as time went on.

One of Sarah's greatest comforts during this difficult time was Gilbert. Together they discussed their future, and they both decided to work hard and make as much money as possible. Perhaps if they were both bringing more money to a marriage, their families would agree to let them wed. This inspired Sarah to work hard on the farm.

Running the household became harder, since Kymmie spent most of her days in the lord's castle, cleaning and cooking. When Kymmie was home she made woodworks and tended to the garden. Sarah was left to take care of Jacquette and Finnian. To help the family make money, she took on candle-making. Even Finnian helped by taking care of his beloved chickens.

Everyone's hard work paid off, and the family was able to open a small store in the fall. They sold their eggs, fish, wood sculptures, and candles. It finally seemed like they were on a good path financially for the first time since Arthur's death.

Considering the success of the business, Sarah decided to have a serious sit-down conversation with Kymmie about her future with Gilbert. With the store's profits and her existing dowry, Sarah could soon marry if she wished.

When she first met Gilbert, Kymmie was unhappy about Sarah potentially marrying someone, because of her negative experience being married to Sarah's father David. However, Kymmie became an adult that spring, and being 30 gave her a new perspective. All her life the people she loved constantly died. How did she survive that? Concentrating on her own happiness. And if marrying would make Sarah happy, she should. Kymmie relayed this wisdom to her stepdaughter.

Kymmie and Sarah agreed that for the next year, they would work on getting Isaac to agree to the marriage. Sarah would get a dowry of $1000, about 1/2 of the money saved up, and the rest would go to Jacquette and Finnian if they reached adulthood. And Kymmie would be glad to support whatever life decision made Sarah happy. Sarah was ecstatic, because $1000 and Gilbert's inheritance would allow them to get their own plot of land. The future looked bright.

The twins have survived their Toddler death rolls and aged up--Ameline (left) gained the Independent and Fussy traits, and Anselma (right) became an Inquisitive and Charming (Charmer) Toddler. Though they may have started out as nearly identical, and are still pretty much identical now apart from the length of their hair and a slight difference in their eye colour, their personalities are already proving to be very different indeed.

Jemma lost her baby and also Edmund. Adelaide aswell lost her baby but Wylliam aged into a toddler. Isolda is a child now.

Only Stephanus came back from war.

1312 - Dubious Parentage and Inappropriate Behaviour

With wintertime resulting in less chores to do around the farm and everyone staying inside more, tempers heat up again and the children get into a variety of arguments, despite Rosemary's attempts at mediating. Tired of being cooped up with all of her siblings, Stefanie visits her good friend Brandan Townsend, the local blacksmith's son. and his parents welcome her warmly, even offering to give her a tour of the smithy. With Stefanie and Brandan approaching their teenage years, it's clear his parents think the two of them might one day be wed. The two of them go ice skating, but Stefanie struggles to keep up and falls down, knocking out the last of her baby teeth.

Rosemary gives birth to a healthy daughter named Esther, and Gemma arrives from Henford to celebrate the birth with them. While in Windenburg, Gemma is overcome with nostalgia for the simple life she left behind and lingers a while, hoping she might meet Stuart, her first husband, by chance, even though she knows he remarried after her departure.

She returns to Henford later than planned, and nearly misses her oldest son August's birthday, which he had forgotten about. As her two sons grow, it's difficult to say with certainty who the father might be. Sir Lucan begins to pay special attention to August, and appears convinced that he is his son, rather than Sir Amis'.

Having less to do around the farm during wintertime, Frederik spends more time with his children and brings them out side to play and to do volunteer work at the local abbey, keeping them busy and helping them bond to avoid further animosity between them.

Meanwhile, Rosemary stays home with their two youngest daughters and is glad she gets to spend some quality time with them. As the year ends, Rosemary realizes that she is pregnant again, but with the house starting to become crowded, she begins to worry about how they will fit everyone in, especially with her older children on the verge of becoming teenagers.
