A/n: It's been a hot minute since I posted something but have this little thing I wrote the other week at like 3am when I was having a breakdown (it's an original work)

The page remained empty. Her quill, poised to strike, unmoving with the ink long dry. Before she realized what was happening, she'd snapped the delicate feather in her hand. A scream ripped from her throat, raw and alien to her ears, as she swept away all the items on her pitiful desk. The sound of glass breaking and books hitting the ground were lost on her, for her anguish consumed her whole to the point everything else faded away into nothingness.

"What's the point?" she cried, her voice teetering on the edge of a bottomless ravine of manic sorrow and frustration. "I feel everything, everything, yet fail to express these all-consuming emotions! Is this my curse? To feel so deeply, understand the world so clearly, yet have my mind turn into a void of nothingness the instant I try to speak or write? Dear gods above, it is unkind! Dare I say unfair!"

The brunette laughed, a horridly painful and delightful sound of insanity. Her body moved of its own accord, a shaking hand reaching for the writing ink splattered amongst the destroyed possessions. She saw the cuts appear on her fingers, the shards of glass digging into her skin, but she felt nothing as pressed onward to scoop up the shining dark liquid.

"If I can not live up to my potential, exercise the intellect and curiosity buring in the core of my soul that causes me such agony, then I will become something else! Something that will give me the freedom to pass through life as unintelligent and stupid! Something strong enough to break the bonds of following others!"

Without an ounce of hesitation, she smeared the liquid abyss through her hair. Her fingers worked tirelessly to turn brown into darkness that rivaled midnight. She scooped up more ink from the wood floor, the liquid drying faster than she could work. She snarled, fingers tightening in her hair as she realized she couldn't completely darken her hair. Despite her desperate desire to become simpleminded, her thoughts raised as she tried to decide how to proceed.

She began to breathe heavily, overwhelmed by the unless possibilities swarming her thoughts. Her eyes darted around in mainc panic, soon locking onto a shard of glass from the broken inkwell. For the second time that night, she let her body take control rather than think. Her clean hand snapped out like a snake, grabbing the shard and bringing it up to her long hair. She paid no mind to how the glass dug into her palm. This brief moment of physical pain was nothing compared to the years of emotional distress she'd experienced.

After gathering her hair into a ponytail, she began sawing away at her hair with great effort. The process was long and hard, blood dripping from her hands. Tears of pain pooled in her eyes, but she refused to stop. No, she couldn't stop even if she wanted to. This moment of thoughtless, instinctive action felt better than anything else she'd done in her entire life.
