hey, i hope you’re doing well!!

Currently dusting off the blog since the new TMNT movie is in theaters (no I haven't seen it yet) and thankfully my writing motivation is slowly coming back. So HOPEFULLY I'll draft up a bunch of those asks and finally answer them.

I'm sorry I kept promising to do them then kinda ghosted you guys. Between my motivation lacking and things generally happening in my life, I kinda didn't find the time to update y'all. I kept feeling guilty seeing both the Leo and Donnie fics doing well, but seeing a fic writer I really write loosing their motivation to write for other people with a character I don't really see written for all that much was the final push I needed. (Of course, I can't say I don't get it, just heartbreaking for me is all. So no shame in them doing that!)

Speaking of; Holy crap guys not only is the Leo fic close to 1000 notes, Donnie's fic is at 2400 something. You all RULE. I am so happy you all like the fics I made. I've attempted to make X readers for so many different fandoms over the years, but seeing the amount of even just likes is WILD to me.

There's no way to write this without sounding like the same thank yous so many online folks do, but genuinely. Thank you for even just liking my stuff, seeing how many of you enjoy it made me incredibly happy in my skills and now I feel a bit more confident in being a writer. I've been so used to just saying I'm an artist with a bit of writing, but with you all supporting my silly purple boy nickname of Softie, I feel more confident in saying Artist/Writer! Looking forward to the next time I post to you all.

"Softie" (Rise!Donnie X Gender-neutral Reader)

(Sorry that writing block hit me so hard as of late. I still have the requests and y'all have fantastic and even FUNNY (/pos) ideas. I WILL DO THEM MARK MY WORDS.

Iiiiiin the meantime however, I found a fic I made a bit ago that I haven't shared so I thought I would now while y'all are waiting. Thank you all so much for the love and patience!)

Genre: Fluff with Established Relationship.

Character count: 7,790

<(Hey, are you up, (Y/N)? If you're up, say something so I can come over.)

The message pinged and awoke you with a stir. How it woke you up, you may never know, but something in your brain deemed it important enough to wake up to. You squinted slowly, adjusting to the new light, and read the time. 3am. You saw who texted was your genius boyfriend Donatello. It wasn't unusual to hear from him this late. You started to type.

(Donnie, Baby, Love of my life, politely?)>

(You woke me up. Go to bed.)>

<(...That just means I can come over.)

(DONNIE NO.)> 

You were very quickly typing that and off it sent, and... Not even read. Great. You groaned, just wanting to tell your partner to get his shell to sleep, but no, he wanted to come to your side at an ungodly hour.

You opened the window to a very eager purple clad turtle, hovering just over the city below with his tech shell. You lightly shook your head, not having the heart to turn him away at your own window, besides, he would persist on coming in anyways, probably alerting people below on the streets. You sighed in defeat as you moved out of his way, to which he then got inside to your room.

Donnie - 1, (Y/N) - 0

"Hello, my love." He smiled his dorky wide smile, softening the blow of him being here so late. Almost anyways.

"Why are you here at this hour, Don?" You slightly whine, tired from being up already.

"Well I just wanted to show you the latest version of the shell!" He proudly spun around, pointing and showing you his back. "Feast your eyes my dear! It's got a more efficient cooling system for when I'm in the air for those hotter New York days-" and off he goes, rambling and going on and on. Normally you love hearing all about his work, but you can't help but stare at his face, bags evident even with his mask. You very quietly approached your lover boy to his front side, and he FINALLY took notice of the concern on your face.

"And... It... (Y/N?)" Donnie cocked his head as you looked at him. You reached up, cupped his face, and silently rubbed under his eyes. "W-What? Is there something on my face?"

"Yeah. Bags." You sarcastically mused, making Donnie sigh.

"I'm fine, my dear. Really!" 

"Adding 'Really' at the end doesn't make me believe you more, D." You raise a brow and Donnie leans into your hands, pouting. You couldn't help but giggle, even with you shaking your head again. "C'mon, you're tired. Let's go to bed."

"But I don't- Wait did you say 'Let's?'" He reeled back, looking at you in surprise. You sit on the edge of your bed and pat your side. Donnie blushed, turning red, before he leaned his head down and went to your side, obediently.

Donnie - 1 (Y/N) - 1

Donnie slightly flinched at the slight touch of your fingers trying to touch the skin of his arm, but he quickly tried to relax, he was fine with the touch, just nervous. You smiled as your hand made its way up to rub his shoulder. He sighed contently as you basically massaged any stiff spots from working tonight. 

He was cute in moments like these. He didn't often throw away the 'cool guy' act, and often tried to pretend not to feel anything, even when he did. Very deeply. You were very much living evidence that he wasn't all cold as the metal surrounding him could be. Well... Not emotionally anyways.

Donnie let himself melt backwards into your bed as you lightly placed yourself in front of him and rubbed his other shoulder. You lightly kissed around and on his eyes, encouraging him to shut them, which he did without a second thought.

Your hand soon hit the metal of his fake shell, and you went to look, making you pull away from him, and then in turn making Donnie whine as you backed away from giving him affection. You warmly smiled at how needy he can be, as you lightly traced around the square patterns on his skin. 

Something hissed under you though, nearly making you jump out of your own skin, and then Donnie lightly flipped you onto your back, as he got up, and moved his shell- wait what?

You blinked in surprise as you sat up to your boyfriend. Donnie being without his tech on his person was unheard of to you until now, and as he took off his goggles and gear and half heartedly tossed it to where he put his shell, He looked to you just as he was reaching up to undo his bandana. 

"I-Is something wrong?" Don genuinely asked. You shook your head. 

"I just haven't seen you without your tech and gear before..."

"A-Ah... That's- Uhm- That's right, you haven't... I-I-I can put it back on if that makes you more comfort-"

"No! No." You coughed. "It's OK. You're OK. This is just new is all. Relax." You gave a smile to emphasize that Donnie could take his things off and rest. Donnie looked worried for a moment more, but then he nodded, untying his purple bandanna, and setting it folded up on a nearby table. You scotched over to one side of the bed, opposite of where Donnie was standing, and patted your bed for the second time tonight. Donnie gave a soft smile and climbed on that side, and as he did, you got to see his soft shell. 

"Hey Donnie, could I touch your shell-?" Your hands flew to your mouth as it asked the question you wanted to word better in your head first. Meanwhile, Donnie nearly fell back out of the bed in shock at your sudden question. You both looked at each other, warm in the face. "-Sorry"

"-Of course (Y/N)" 

You both blurted out at the same time, surprising you both, Donnie was the first to laugh a little at the mess you two were tonight. You followed suit the second you heard a chuckle from him.

"U-Uh... Like I said..." Donnie coughed, laying down on his plastron. "Go right ahead, my love." And the way he looked at you, with such love and trust, sent butterflies to go crazy in your stomach. You slowly moved closer to him, and reached for his shell, immediately rubbing at it.

As you did, you heard a weird guttural... Purr from him? You looked down and his eyes were shut, skin pinched right above his eyes, but it somehow looked relaxed, especially with the wide smile that pulled at his lips. Huh. You didn't ask about it right now, not while he was clearly content. For now, you worked your digits into lightly pushing, and even more lightly raking, the texture of his shell.

Somehow your thoughts wandered to all the nicknames Donnie called you over the time you had been dating, and how tender they were. You had just stayed true to his name, with maybe the occasional common pet name, but something clicked in your mind.

"...Softie."

"Heyyyyy..." Donnie whined, opening one eye to look up to pout at you.

"No no no no no!" You waved off. "I was just thinking about... A general new nickname? Ahhh, maybe it's stupid..." You began to trail off, but Donnie immediately stepped in.

"Hold on, talk to me, Dearest." He pressed. You nodded.

"I was thinking that you know it would be kinda clever since you were a soft shell? Plus... You treat me so well, and... So kindly... You're a little tiny bit of a softie, Don. I get to see you without your walls up and without your shell on now and... I love seeing that side of you...-oh! Donnie!" You cupped his face as his lips shook in his semi pout, and he was very VERY close to crying. 

"My looooooveee..." He turned around, the idea of his shell being pet forgotten as he hugged you, laying on top of you. He made sure to shift his weight enough to not crush you, but more so comfortably weighing you down to keep his clinging snuggle grip on you. You giggled. "I love you so much...!" 

"Love you too... Softie." You replied coyly, and he squeaked upon you reaching around to pet him again. And then he purred, shutting his eyes.

"I promise I won't call you Softie in front of your brothers."

This post is inspired by a post @dakotafinely made taking about Raph and Mikey's dynamics. But for me, I'll be talking about Splinter, and why I personally have a very big problem with the adults in Rise in general. ESPECIALLY from a point of the boys and April are, even during the series, MINORS and therefore they are gonna feel the wave of consequences to the adults around them and their actions long after they become adults.

Now I'm gonna start this post off by saying I understand him being shitty at first is the whole point of his arc, and that since we didn't get enough time because season 2 was cut in half and "paused" (As some staff have posted on Twitter telling us what Nick said the series status is) we didn't get to fully see him being called out.

However! The problem of Rise is that they seem to almost kinda EMPHASIZE this idea that parental figures are meant to be forgiven no matter what. And that out of ALL OF THE EPISODES THEY COULD'VE PICKED they didn't choose or have an episode to dive into that, and while I won't call any of Season 2 "Filler episodes" (I loved all the episodes we ended up with) I do want to call to question that they didn't choose to tackle anything that could make Splinter grow. If anything, I argue that after major episodes of a step of Splinter's growth... They almost seem to take two steps back.

Now the rest of this will be under the cut as to save on room and not make this post go on for a mile. Oh, and also for the sake of series spoilers since some folks are just getting into it after the movie came out.

Now the first major sign is gonna start off with the short Turtle Tots Which in it, Splinter wants to train the boys, while emphasizing how dangerous the weapons are. But then Splinter IMMEDIATELY runs off to watch his show, leaving the weapons within the reach of the boys, which results in them playing with the actual weapons and beating each other and themselves, up with them. To add insult to injury, Splinter, when he re-appears, DOESN'T PUNISH THE BOYS FOR PLAYING WITH THE WEAPONS. Yes, he gets angry, but when he begins to think about being better, it doesn't stick with him as he runs back to watch his show. (And that's not even mentioning that means he's not around for their behavior for "Hero and Villain" where they single out Leo to physically beat up? Which out of context and out of the whole Comedy aspect is... Just yikes???)

Now onto season 1. Which the first notable example is Splinter during Down with the Sickness. Which while he's sick, Mikey and Leo comment some... Interesting things at stage three (Which I remind you is his "Lovey-Dovey dad stage)

Mikey: Favorite son? Run!

Leo: No, no, you don’t I’m your least favorite!

This has some... Implications on how Splinter treats the boys. That he has to be SICK to show them affection. That this is out of the norm for him. Not much to "analyze" here but these two sentences rub me the wrong way.

Now onto the Fast and the Furriest. Which dives a LOT more into my problems with Splinter. First off. This exchange.

Meat Sweats: Turtles? Red, Blue, Orange, Purple?

Splinter: You know their names!

Meat Sweats: Yes. And they’re right outside and looking delicious.

Splinter: What? We’ve got to bone out! They cannot find out I took the tank!

Meat Sweats: What are you doing, you dotty old sod?

Splinter: You steer, I will pedal.

First off. THAT IS NOT THEIR NAMES AND HE LATER CONFIRMS THAT HE KNOWS THEIR ACTUAL NAMES. Second, he KNOWS he shouldn't have taken it, but chose too anyways for the sake of his enjoyment. And Donnie's earlier comment;

Donnie: Oh I should have known he took it! You just can't trust adults these days. You leave the keys to your brainchild lying around and the next thing you know-

Implies that this sort of situation, even in a more minor sense, has happened before. Especially considering the later lines of this

Splinter: Purple is a monster. He’ll fry my TV so I get is educated shows.

Like he's done it before. What's worse is that just before that line, we get a perspective into how he takes to criticism of his parenting.

Meat Sweats: You took the tank from your son? Well, I've done some awful things in my life. But you, you’re an animal.

Splinter: I am not taking the fault for this.

And then after there's also a line of how he deals out punishment more than likely.

Donnie: Oh Papa! If you surrender now, there shan't be any consequences.

Splinter: That is a lie, I taught him that one.

The fact that Donnie knows this trick means that is a pattern he used before, at least on Donnie. And the following confirmation of belittling into yelling like he is a child gives me the idea that these boys had to essentially parent their own father.

Donnie: [enraged] You...you, reckless irresponsible-! You are watching the science of chairs channel for a month young man! Followed by the Long Division Channel and the Memorizing Pi channel 1 Spoiler alert, the 99th digit is 7!

Quick side note on Mrs. Cuddles is just how quickly Splinter, like the other teens, dismisses Raph's fears and taunts him for it.

I personally think their behavior of thinking this prank is a good idea comes from Splinter constantly laughing it off despite his son clearly being distress. Especially because that Raph tries to push off his fears as nothing instead of admitting his fears and telling them to stop because it's actually causing him panic. But I admit there's no truely solid evidence for this one.

Even setting off later events by lying to Raph to get into where he locked up Cuddles. While he fixed the problem with Raph, the fact that he just kept laughing at Raph instead of being worried about him seriously bugs me.

In the episode Smart Lair the only question Splinter asks is simply

Splinter: Okay. But what can he do for me?

SHELLDON: With my help, snacks are only a split second away.

Splinter: Whoo hoo! I never have to use my legs again! Good Job Purple!

He only cares about what benefits HIM in SHELLDON. More examples being;

Splinter: My hot soup is now only luke hot. AKA cold!

SHELLDON: Humblest apologies. Perhaps this new upgrade I installed may help.

Splinter: Flying microwave? What is next? Hop Soup!

...

Splinter: You know, I could really go for an ivory field woodpecker egg omelet.

SHELLDON: Sorry bro. Like those went extinct in '94.

Splinter: I hear problems, but not solutions. And what is wrong with your voice?

SHELLDON: A little tweakage to the wave and extinct eggs coming right up!

Splinter: Yummy in my tummy.. Dinosaurs? You time traveled. My dream of traveling through time solving mysteries with a microwave may still come true!

SHELLDON: Yeah okay, old man.

...

Splinter: What did you do? You destroyed my detective microwave friend!

First off, the fact he considers the flying microwave servant as is friend is... Kinda giving me bad vibes of how he thinks friendship works. Second, we move onto Late Fee

Mikey: We can finish our mission and go get Splinter's warm and fuzzy hugs?

...

Mikey: The ferry's too far. And we're running out of time. We'll never get Splinter's hugs.

...

Mikey: I feel like I could feel Dad's hugs. And spoiler alert, they are plush.

...

All: Hugs, hugs, hugs!

These boys are literally STARVING for physical affection from Splinter, and that includes Donnie who seems to be generally touch avoidant. And Mikey's lines implies that he doesn't even REMEMBER what Splinter's hugs feel like (I'm assuming this is talking about while he's not sick.) And once he finally accepts it...

Splinter: Okay. You have earned it.

Mikey: [choked up] I will never forget this feeling.

Splinter: I love all my sons. All five of you.

...He doesn't even realize how many sons he has???

For now, onto our last one of Jupiter Jim Ahoy!

Leo: Eh it had its ups and downs, but who needs that guy? As far as we’re concerned we live with our hero. Our non kidnap-y hero.

Mikey: Yeah tell us about that stuntman again.

Splinter: ...Oh Chad? What a prankster.

So you just... Dismiss Leo mentioning the kidnapping part? No questions or concerns-? Alright.

Now we're skipping the following episodes in this part for now, because these are the big ones for me and this post is already getting long and it will all be it's own separate part and with it being less episodic episodes, should be less rambling and more cohesive:

Well 1 and 2 kinda go hand in hand

My favorite is Donnie, I adore this little shit (/affectionate) with all of my heart. Especially as someone who is also on the spectrum. I didn't think I'd be right about him being Autistic BUT I WAS AND I AM SO HAPPY BECAUSE HE IS SUCH GOOD REPRESENTATION.

Anywho, I just adore how he's got his own way of caring so deeply for his brothers, he's so quick witted and dry, (He is, in fact, the funny one. Closely followed by Leo to be fair.) knows how to get shit done, (meaning he CARRIES the team in the early parts of the series FIGHT ME) knows his shit in general, and so SO much more. I'd be typing paragraphs on paragraphs on him. Just know he's a hard ass with a heart of a softie. Kinda a lot like his shell when you really think of it. Cold and hardshell outwardly, Soft and needs to be handled gently inwardly.

Now for the other brothers let's knock them out a little quicker or we'll be here for a WHILE

Leo has grown so much over the series and movie, and it's no wonder why so much love goes to him. He's quick to think on his feet and he's my favorite Leonardo that I've seen. (Not that the previous iterations were bad! No! I love 2012 Leo for example. But Rise is just much more defined in personality to me. The others had one (some more than others, but they did) just not as straightforward to get as ROTTMNT Leo.)

Raph is just... A sweetheart teddy bear. Sure, I love the hardass the other Raphs are, and it makes sense because among the TEENAGERS someone is gonna be a little more rough around the edges and standoffish, in fact I think it would be weird without one of them being that way. But Raph being the eldest gave my eldest sibling position a LOT to relate to. (I was also internally screaming at the Pizza Puffs episode.) And his care for his brothers to ve tough via the protector is admirable. Lord knows I'd do the same.

And Mikey... Man. How do I even begin with this baby boy? I always adored Mikey (2012 Mikey was my favorite as a kid right behind Raph. Yes, Raph was my favorite as a kid even though he was basically my opposite IDK how.) and Rise Mikey was no exception. He has high empathy, something I relate to FAR too much, and he doesn't want to be coddled, which I can also relate to. He's trying his best and his optimism is NEVER annoying. You really just want to hug him! What a good bean he is! Everyone is!

...Well almost everyone. Yeah I do have a... Pretty hot take.

My least favorite is kinda a tie in their own ways that I've been a bit more vocal about.

That being Splinter and Draxum. I'm sorry but the adult figures and family themes with parents were just... Not handled well to me I'm sorry.

Yeaaaah I know I know, that's the whole point with Splinter is that he grows as the series goes on, but it just was FAR too little for me to be satisfied with. Like the show was cut short, yeah, but even with the series cut short there was REALLY no episode with Splinter growing as a father more than "Oh I fucked up and I *apologize*" LIKE??????

Especially when he has episodes where he takes two steps in the OTHER DIRECTION

And this was the first out of the series, before the movie came out, that Donnie actually and seriously cried. Which just. Shows how much. This HURT HIM. WHICH IS ENTIRELY FAIR AND HE DESERVES HIS ANGER.

But that's a topic for my main blog to tackle for another time. For now, I'll just reblog the part one I have after this since I go into more detail there.

But yeah. Splinter and Draxum are my answers for the third question. The teens were handled FAR better than the adults.

While for some characters more than others it might take some brainstorming on how they act, I don't mind Yanderes myself. (IN FICTION AND NOT IRL, OBVIOUSLY.) Of course Yandere requests if any WILL be censored and have an upfront TW with it for the sake of people who are uncomfortable with the themes Yanderes can have, and I will try to keep those posts to a minimum for the sake of not becoming a strictly Yandere centered ROTTMNT blog. But yes, I will happily do headcanons as well, especially because they are far easier to write than a whole fic. (Nothing wrong with y'all asking for a fic, of course, I will always see what I can do)

Note (that I'll probably go edit into the pinned post.) Any ask will be defaulted into headcanons unless specified to be a fic. Of course, sometimes inspiration will hit me and I'll make a full fic even when not specified, but still. Anywho, thank you for the question! ^^
