How does my concept meet the Key Criteria?
Feasibility, Sustainability and Enduring Significance
Is this project a one-off, or can it be refreshed, adapted, delivered in stages, or on multiple occasions? The interactive water fountain is something that would be permanent to the site, however, if needed the structure could be refreshed, and as mentioned before it could be adapted to encourage re-visitation. Throughout my research, I also discovered that there was an interactive water fountain that was sometimes closed off to the public for particular events, so that is always a possibilities as well, with projection imagery and sound at their disposal for a specific event.
Is it sustainable? with the filtration system, there will not be a great deal of water wastage, and the economical advantages that will come with a project like this, will demand for there to be more projects added to Northshore.
Will it withstand the test of time? I believe that this concept will still be enjoyed in decades to come, as it provides an active way for children to have fun, and it promotes inclusiveness.
Does it regular upkeep or maintenance? Based on my research the water fountain shouldn't need regular maintenance, but it also shouldn't be left unkept. It requires the same amount of maintenance that all exisiting projects currently need at Maritime Green.

How does my concept meet the Key Criteria?
Audience Engagement, Ethics and Diversity
Who is my target audience? My target audience is primary school students aged between 5-12, as well as the young families that might be attending with their children.
How can this project inspire, ethically engage, and sustain this target audience? Based off of the research i have conducted it is evident that these style of water fountains are already a big success with this target audience. On the other hand, to ensure they won't get bored there will be a continuous revival of stories being today, and at night that video project could change. For example, we could display indigenous artworks in the water, or possibly images of Australian wildlife, those are jest some of the images that we could have on display.
How can I grow this audience? This project have already considered an expansion of the target audience, in terms of attracting those with disabilities, including individuals who are deaf, blind, confined to a wheelchair, or people who aren't able to take care of themselves.

How does my concept meet the Key Criteria?
originality
Does my concept reflect and enhance Northshore's features? In terms of a Historical, physical and cultural aspect, absolutely! This is because there is a connection to water and Indigenous history, as well as, the mural created by a local artist that adds to the overall aesthetics on the water fountain.
what is my creative contribution? This concept would be considered a long lasting and spiritual space, home to children and families of Brisbane and eventually outside of Brisbane as well. The content that will be shared during this experience are Indigenous dream time stories, and I think it is very important to work alongside the local Indigenous communities, to ensure that they are telling their story as authentically as they can, with support from companies like EDQ, to help their desires become reality, in terms of what they want the project to embody.
Can my project be produced or replicated without my involvement? This project couldn't be replicated by anyone else, because it's never been done before. I think that by incorporating all the different elements that are significant to the landscape will make it one of a kind. Moreover, for this sight to be produced I would have to be heavily involved, as I am the one who came up with this idea, I have a particular vision and potential for this project.
How does this concept compare to existing creative projects? Based on the research I have down on interactive water fountains in a local, nation and international context, most if not all of them are purely for enjoyment, whereas this project is directed towards an immersive experience with a historical and cultural aspect in mind.

How does my concept meet the Key Criteria?
Response to the Site and Client Brief:
How my concept plans to activate this site is by creating a space that everyone can enjoy, no matter your ability, race, religion and cultural beliefs. This space will provide a new and interesting experience every time, no matter day or night, and no matter the time of year.
Some of the Clients key challenges that this project has taken into consideration include;  the desired demographic for North shore is 5-25 year olds, so there is an opportunity to create shared moments and enjoy the connection between past and future, and way finding could be improved to attract diverse communities in terms of inclusiveness. The way in which this project addresses the connection between past and future, is by incorporating the history of the land from an Indigenous perspective, through the mural, done by an Indigenous artist (yet to be decided). It is highly important that the youth of today are well educated in the history of Indigenous people’s, and their spiritual beliefs (Dream Time Stories). Another way in which this project addresses way finding and inclusiveness, is by ensuring that there is an immersive experience for everyone. For example, those who are confined to a wheelchair are still able to enjoy the water experience, as well as those who are blind or deaf. This opens up a completely new audience and increases the number of people new to the site, or re-visiting the site.
This concept clearly reflects the objectives, vision and brand of EDQ through its emphasis on Indigenous and nautical heritage, its ability to immerse a wide range of people into different experiences, and its rejuvenation and sustainability goals making it a unique and memorable experience.
The way in which the interactive water fountain will fill a need at Northshore is evident, as it provides the highly sought after target market with something fun to do all year around. Furthermore, it will encourages families and all different types of communities to come to Northshore, particularly on a hot day where they are able to be active, to experience life on the waterfront.
The value that this concept provides Northshore, can be seen through a past  and future lens. For example, the site is already extremely industrialised which can be misleading for many individuals; they might think that this area is somewhat newly developed, however, what they don’t know is that Northshore is one of the oldest suburbs in Brisbane. Therefore, I strongly believe that by having aspects of story telling and history incorporated into this concept, it will enable people to fully grasp the importance that this land has not only to our past, but also to our future as well.

Project decision?
The project that I have chosen to submit, is project 2, The Interactive water fountain with LED lights and voice over. The reason why I decided to chose project 2 over project 1, is because it provides a greater experience for a wide range of people, in turn opening up the possibility of a target audience that might not have been imagined before. Furthermore, the water fountain with the mural is something that is site specific and recognisable to the landscape, in other terms it is unique, and enables the site to have a permanent monument that will leave a lasting legacy.  Unlike project 1, project 2 has a greater connection to Indigenous culture, and encourages Indigenous communities to participate. Furthermore, it also has a connection to water, which provides a greater immersive experience, as it can be enjoyed both during the day and at night.

Research on similar and existing projects:
Kings Beach Caloundra
A great place for the kids to run around and play in the water is the Kings Beach Water Feature located near the Kings Beach Pool and Kings Beach. The time-delayed fountain at Kings Beach will keep the kids entertained for hours, as it catches them unawares as they try play dodgems with the water sprays.

Water Labyrinth Perth
The Water Labyrinth is an interactive water sculpture created exclusively for Forrest Place by internationally renowned artist Jeppe Hein. It runs daily from 10am to 6pm unless an event is being hosted in Forrest Place.

Central Texas
Everybody always says "Everything is bigger in Texas" well the people at Fountain People took that into play when creating their water fountains. From water screens, rain curtains, to interactive fountains they make every creation unique and personalised to fit each clients request. Over at Fountain people nothing is impossible. They can use water to display movies, or build a rain curtain to add a sense of peace and calmness to an office lobby. They even build interactive fountains in local parks to cool off on a hot Texas summer day.

Sources of Inspiration:
The images above have enabled me to envision what my project could look like in the future. They have operated as a my visual guide when deciding upon the aesthetics I wish to incorporate, and the ones I wish to leave out. Furthermore, It has made me consider the possibility of merging different aspects of ideas together, to form one unison concept. For example, I have begun experimenting with the idea of merging the interactive water fountain and the Indigenous mural together.

Notes from site visit/ Needs and wants of the client:
- consider that there are commercial spaces around maritime, that are in operation
- marker space to hire out
- Brisbane circus (continuing the theme of the shipping containers like Eat Street), so there is this idea of unity amongst different projects
- driving awareness for visitation
- placemaking: ride share, drop off spaces, bikes, e-scooters
- leaving a legacy, ongoing and connecting communities
- building a lifestyle for the residents
- way-finding for people who have disabilities and government regulations with wheelchair access
- what is the experience for people who are deaf and/or blind? and what is the experience for the elder who cant walk the whole space?
- street art? sounds? what are sensory experiences? and think beyond just the visual
- unlocking new opportunities and opening up different part of the target market that might not have existed before
- primary school students and high school students have different interests, so be specific about the target market
- advertising and selling in a different way
- opening up the waterfront, with access to boardwalks. Giving people the ability to walk the full waterfront, which connects to the Brisbane city.
- crafting activities for kids on school holidays
- solar lights
- technology that helps see how many people are coming into the area
- smart irrigation
- CCTV cameras that are solar
- technology that predicts the weather
- the possibility of wind turbines to generate our own source of power
- managing heat, and making sure there are shaded spaces with rest spots
- dedicated walk ways
- connection to water
- flood prevention
- sustainable materials that could be used are maritime wood and the 20ft shipping containers (containers come with a cost)
- important gathering space for Indigenous Peoples
- the Brisbane river was originally a fresh water river, supplying great food source, and a place of celebration
- the power course is at the back of house
- emphasis on the long term, design something that is recognisable to the space (e.g. Statue of Liberty, London eye, Eiffel Tower)
- concept options: connecting all areas together (taking people through on a journey).

Observations:
Throughout the site tour, I noticed that there were many repurposed objects, including a metal cleat (which was used to secure boats to the harbour), wood (that was used for decking), and large iron containers (which were used for storage, and the transportation of goods). Since then, Maritime Green has used these objects to their advantage, and transformed the cleats and wood into seats, and the large containers into pot-plants. Furthermore, I really liked this concept because by repurposing these objects it paid homage to the history of the landscape, while also creating functionality for a new space. Therefore, I will most definitely take this into consideration when planning my project, as it limits the costs and minimises waste through sustainable innovation.

Observations:
The Hangar, operates as an undercover space, that shelters visitors from the harsh Brisbane climate, particularly the wind and heat. This space is also a great entertaining space, and plays host to many live performances, with an amazing view of Brisbane city’s skyline in the distance. Much like The Shed, the Hangar also incorporates artwork from local artists, providing them with a platform that enables them to reach a wider audience, and allows the community to feel as though they are being included in the development of this space. I believe this is a truly important message, that I will most definitely incorporate when designing my project, particularly as it will contribute to the history of Brisbane and the legacy that will be left behind. Moreover, when looking at the aspect of sustainability, I really like how the Hangar uses old shipping containers as apart of its structure, and with the art work splashed across it, it definitely represents the notion of up-cycling, and turning something old into something new and interesting to look at. With this in mind, there are many materials that could be used from the site, in creating an original and unique project.
