meet Pyrite!

Pyrite is my Pressure self-insert and sona ❤️ extended lore below!

2015-2024

PRE-LOCKDOWN

At age 12, Pyrite is brought into experimentation after the Sebastian procedure is a success in 2015. His father is one of the key researchers in Urbanshade, and is the one who ultimately signs his life away.

Pyrite is first injected with the DNA of a Maladapterus electricus, an electric catfish, in order to allow him to both have gills and be able to withstand and mildly generate electricity. This is with the express goal of being able to work directly with high-risk electronic areas, the Angler, and Z-2. The electrocytes implanted into him also serve the purpose sensing electromagnetic fields, as well as enabling him to produce small amounts of electricity himself. He is not immune to electricity, but would not be killed by things like the Angler & its variants, and would be able to endure direct contact with Z-2 for a very brief amount of time without sustaining permanent injuries.

During the Cult of Noli raid in 2016, Pyrite's father passed away, though the files of the incident were kept under lockdown above even Pyrite's clearance. Sources indicate that Pyrite's father may have had closer ties to the Noli group, if not being an outright member of such.

Over the next few years, as DNA experimentation stabilizes, Pyrite is further injected with the DNA of a red deer. He is trained and even further indoctrinated into Urbanshade's work. He is young, but not the youngest operative. He is kept under close watch, and is under no circumstances to be let out of surveillance while the surgeries stabilize.

In 2021, Pyrite undergoes the final DNA test he will experience, the addition of tiger DNA. This was done partially to test above-ground nighttime foot soldiers for other Urbanshade operating forces. He is sent to the Hadal Blacksite, and given the task of working with the most recent changes to the N.A.V.I. system while he recovers from the surgery.

Pyrite gains high-security clearance and oversees the Ridge area of the Blacksite, as well as the crystal and occasionally checks back in with N.A.V.I. His specific area of work doesn't allow for much visitation, but he does seem to spend most of his free time in the N.A.V.I. room. He built up something of a bond with the AI during his stay while recuperating, and it seems that Pyrite is one of the few operatives that N.A.V.I. is less callous towards. Further data may need to be gathered on the learning network at play.

In 2023-2024, Pyrite meets the p.AI.nter. It is at this point that he begins to start questioning things, seeing the AI forced to mine crypto for Urbanshade. It's not like he hasn't seen horrors, but something about p.AI.nter being so similar to N.A.V.I. strikes the cracks in Pyrite that eventually weaken to full mutiny.

This is further exacerbated by Pyrite's meeting with the Imaginary Friend, and then Sebastian. Pyrite begins to question Urbanshade and his reasons for being at the Blacksite. He keeps it to himself, though, working in silence and starting to spend less time within the NAVI server rooms.

2025-PRESENT

LOCKDOWN ONWARD

Pyrite is left stranded as one of the few on-site operatives of the Blacksite. He knows of the Expendable teams being sent in, and for a few days N.A.V.I. deems fit to guide Pyrite around the site. However, as Pyrite starts spending more time around p.AI.nter and not quite helping as much as he should with getting N.A.V.I.'s systems back fully online and in control of key areas with the Internal Defense System, the N.A.V.I. Path stops guiding him.

Pyrite defects fully to the side of p.AI.nter and Sebastian, a mix of sympathy for their similar plights and protectiveness for p.AI.nter being the nails in the coffin for him.

Pyrite is the one who made it possible for the p.AI.nter to hack into the speakers, since normally neither p.AI.nter nor NAVI is able to access them. Where Sebastian achieved getting p.AI.nter to access the IDS, Pyrite closed the gap due to his extensive knowledge of the Ridge.

THE EXPEDITIONS

LOOSELY PRESENT TIME

Pyrite defects. He leads another, final team of EXR-Ps (you guys!) to the Ridge, and upon his successful retrieval of Z-2, he abandons his team in Ridge, leaving them to whatever entities will see fit to destroy them be it the Speakers he set up or the various Anglers that have made their way there.

He steals the Crystal, and with it makes his way back through the Hadal Blacksite towards the NAVI server room.

It's the final piece he needs to grant freedom to those in the Blacksite. With one final push, the crystal is lodged into critical parts of the NAVI system, and the AI is destroyed.

Shortly after the demise of the Navigational AI system, Pyrite dies. He succumbs to the injuries inflicted by the prolonged exposure to the crystal. This is hardly the end for him, though, as he is promptly revived by Mr. Lopee. Lopee is the one to inform Pyrite of his being inside a timeloop, and gives him the motive to try and fix something by trying again and again to get NAVI back.

Once Pyrite becomes aware / roped into Mr. Lopee's involvement in the Blacksite (after being forcefully revived) , he ends up joining teams of EXR-Ps with the goal of assisting them in expeditions due to his extensive knowledge on the Blacksite, but always abandoning them pre-Ridge to let them be taken out by the speakers. He takes up a role as something of a guide as someone who knows nearly everything about the Blacksite, but has something of a reputation for letting them die in interesting ways to keep the cycle going for himself. He also is actively aiding Sebastian and p.AI.nter by keeping people from actually escaping with the crystal even though it's pointless and it resets every time.

This entire time, Pyrite seeks to undo what he wrought. There has to be a better way. The NAVI he sees in each consecutive loop does not remember him, not even from the time before he killed her.
