(gripping the skink with both hands, pale and feverish, sweating and shaking as I look at myself in the mirror) “killing a character is a valid writing choice that can be a crucial plot mechanic and lend beauty and depth to the story as a whole” (wretches up blood into the sink) “even when it’s my favorite character”

Are there any reusable n95 masks? I've been using disposable ones and I don't like the waste and the price is also a lot to have to keep buying them.
You can also reuse N95s that aren't wet or dirty several times if you properly doff them. The elastic and nosepiece will wear out before the filter medium on any blown-fiber mask. Here's a video of how to don and doff full surgical PPE (Which includes an N95)

Info from one of the largest disposable respirator manufacturers on the planet saying exactly what I just said.

and an unpaywalled version of a how-to for mask reuse

Entry level jobs haven't existed since the 2008 crash. 90% of hiring managers won't hire recent graduates. A quarter of job listings are ghost jobs. Companies hire part time so that they don't have to give benefits. Federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. The True Unemployment Rate is 25%. Master's are the new bachelor's. For most the job search takes over a year. 75% of resumes are never. actually seen by the hiring team.

It is important to remember that being an ICE agent does not pay well. Entry level agents make $27,431-$35,657 a year. This is not them “Just doing their job, trying to make a living.” otherwise they would choose jobs that pay a livable wage and do not consist of destroying lives, tearing families apart and brutalizing people.
#dang they should really pay their stormtroopers better#though im not convinced most of them have better job options available to them#whether because of economic or personality factors

Okay, granted, it’s been a while since I’ve seen “all trans readers like one kind of fic, and no trans readers ever like another kind of fic, so it is Transphobia when you write the Wrong Kind.”
…but it hasn’t been that long since I’ve seen someone quietly wonder if they’re a Bad Trans Person for having preferences.
So it’s never a bad time to say: different people have different needs, and it’s okay to be fulfilled by different kinds of stories!
(heck, the same person might have different needs at different points in their own life, and that’s okay too)

Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.
Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.
Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)
Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet

This is a tribute to Peter Benchley, not the movie Jaws (1975)
The author of 'Jaws' dedicated the rest of his life to reversing the unexpected negative impact his book had on the image of sharks.
Not only were sharks supposedly killed to create props for the movie, but 'Jaws' ended up awakening a bloody sea of ignorance in people at the time, who, haunted by an irrational fear and lack of understanding about marine predators, felt motivated to take to their boats and kill thousands of great white sharks in the most feared ways.
Such as the promotion of great white shark hunting championships that targeted the biggest ones, which were mostly pregnant females who, after being displayed as a trophy, had their jaws ripped off and their bodies discarded in the garbage.
Fear spread widely to all shark species, creating a lack of sensitivity that made it convenient to exterminate entire shark populations around the world that for a long time remained invisible to people's perception.
And this has continued to resonate for a long time with the entertainment media perpetuating the portrayal of sharks as monsters, newspapers favoring sensationalism about shark incidents, governments promoting shark culls, the advance of the unregulated predatory fishing industry, scientists not being supported in their studies of marine predators, the destruction of their natural habitats and the pollution of the oceans.
For thousands of years, sharks have taken care of the health of our oceans, older than the dinosaurs or the first trees, they have gone through great mass extinctions, they have been worshipped and respected as gods and guardians by oceanic peoples and now we demonize them in our media and exterminate them by the millions every year, who is the real monster?
We are shark-eaters.
I hope you can also hear what Peter Benchley himself had to say about all this:
Edit for the 50th anniversary of Jaws:
🩸 I've added two external links to some quotes from the text above to complement some things if you're interested!
🩸 A while ago I made a list to score, in 13 points, shark stereotypes that a work may contain. At the request of some, I decided to organize it and publish it here, naming it "The Jaws Effect" if you want to see it!
---
I finally finished this artwork! Hope you like it. At some point I will adapt it for my little Redbubble store.🛍️
I reduced the quality to try to prevent them from stealing. I hope it's enough! 🙁
---
I posted it in my little RedBubble store for anyone who wants it! There are clothes, prints and other curious things.🛍️

I also published it on INPRINT if you want a print with quality paper, I hope you like it! 🖼️

Somehow I think the Polin community has never encountered the Hilda pin-up art from the 1950s and I’m here to correct that.
This is 1950s Pin-up Penelope inspiration for all who need it.
