there鈥檚 so much pathologizing over why enemies to lovers is a popular trope (something something the normalization of abuse something something) when the simplest and less moronic answer is that narratives thrive on irony and reversals, and there鈥檚 no greater irony than characters going from hating each other鈥檚 guts to loving each other unconditionally. raw thesis-antithesis-synthesis.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

Honestly? My main piece of advice for writing well-rounded characters is to make them a little bit lame. No real living person is 100% cool and suave 100% of the time. Everyone's a little awkward sometimes, or gets too excited about something goofy, or has a silly fear, or laughs about stupid things. Being a bit of a loser is an incurable part of the human condition. Utilize that in your writing.

anytime someone from the UK orders a print from me I鈥檓 delighted because the addresses tend to be charming and sound completely made-up, I just suspend my disbelief and accept that聽I鈥檓 sending a package someplace with a name like Bristleberry House at Ditchmallow in Brambleford-on-Cotton鈥攊ncredible lmaooo I bet this gets delivered to you by a badger in a little coat

I kind of love that one of Jane Austen's biggest fans was the Prince Regent (later George IV). She didn't think very well of the nobility in general, but she motherfucking hated him, a wastrel who very flagrantly cheated on his wife.
But he loved her writing, was the first recorded purchaser of Sense and Sensibility, and kept copies of her books in all his residences. She never made enough from her writing to live on during her lifetime, so this wasn't support she could casually toss aside. His librarian kept suggesting ideas for new books to her, which she turned down with exquisite politeness. Much to her aggravation, she found herself obliged to dedicate Emma to the man.

Mrs. Croft could have solved the whole plot of Persuasion in one evening given the opportunity, and nothing will convince me otherwise.
Mrs Croft is such a cool and underrated character
She travelled the world! In a time where the most exciting journey - for a woman - was visiting London.
She saw foreign culture, foreign people, in a time where women weren鈥檛 even allowed to vote and most of them stayed at home their whole life. And she dreamed of traveling even more, seeing more, going beyond the known sea.
And she is talking about the war, a political thing, in a time where politics and interest in politics was mostly associated with men.
And it was completely okay for her to say things like that because she was married to a admiral

Just finished plotting out the next arc of See You Again (4th Year), and I cannot wait to write and share it! We're going to have some BIG canon divergence, new POVs, more mother-daughter/father-son bonding, and the first little seedlings of romance for our main pairing.
Thank you to all of you reading this fic. It's such fun for me.

I had a new "oh, my family were the weird ones" moment recently: it seems no one else's family celebrated Frog Night (the first warm rainy night of spring) by going down to the local vernal pool after dark to help the amphibians safely across the road and listening to the spring peepers. (We'd then go back in daytime later on to observe the egg masses, of course.)
Apparently "Frog Night" as a holiday is a thing my mother invented and not a widely-accepted idea, which is a shame because I've been referring to it as if it was for the past 30 years.
