This takes place in Howling Forest.
Demeter the Bellossom is the third member of Team Garnet.
---
Riptide trudged after Fawkes, resisting the urge to snatch the map from him, as he lead them in increasingly wonky circles.
It’s fine. I love Fawkes. I love him enough not to throw him and that stupid map into a puddle.
If she says it enough, she might convince herself it’s true. “I should’ve stayed home with Demeter.”
“What?” Fawkes glanced over his shoulder at her, finally coming to a standstill.
She facepalmed. “Just give me the map.”
“I know what I'm doing!”
Riptide just stared at him, thoroughly unimpressed.
“Fine! If the stairs aren’t in the next room, I'll give you the map.”
Riptide nodded, idly wondering if it was worth wasting the escape orb in her bag to get out of this miserable dungeon-crawling experience.
They continued along the tight corridor before Fawkes stopped, crowing triumphantly. “See! I told you so!”
In the room ahead were the stairs, along with a suspicious amount of money that Fawkes ignored as he ran-
Straight into a monster house.
Riptide threw him an exasperated glare. “Really?!”

Prompt list.
Context:
This is based on an original Pokémon mystery dungeon story.
Noelle has selective mutism and talks to others by writing in his notepad.
Inferno was a drifter before Noelle showed up.
A Glaceon, later revealed to be Noelle from the future, is a reoccurring antagonist in the original story.
Noelle has an ability called the temporal scream, a variant of the dimensional scream that works fairly similarly.
The final dungeon before the credits is Sky-Splitting Summit, a ninety nine floor dungeon with boss fights on floors twenty five, fifty, seventy five and the peak, with a Kangaskhan rock before and after each one.
The first three bosses of Sky-Splitting Summit are Palkia, Dialga and Giratina, in that order. The final boss is a Fauxkmon that is effectively a discount Arceus (The original story this is based on was written before Sun and Moon came out).
The teams from Rescue Team, Explorers, Gates and Super are also climbing the tower, staying behind to deal with each boss after their defeat. The tower starts collapsing as Noelle and Inferno reach the peak and the Rescue Team team (the only ones not holding off a boss) run back to warn the others, while Noelle and Inferno go ahead to fight the final boss.
---
Inferno paced along the floor, doing his best to drown out the fear that threatened to engulf him, before Noelle’s notepad was shoved in his face.
Why are you pacing?
“How could I not?!” Inferno snapped, frustrated by Noelle’s blasé attitude.
Because we know what’s going to happen. I’ve seen it. Rio’s seen it and he’s not been wrong before. Probably.
Inferno snorted, the tension shattered, before he flopped face-first onto the ground. “Sure.” He said, his words muffled by the tile, before lifting up his head. “We’ve just got to fight you from the future and a… what did Fawkes call it?”
A chimerical abomination?
“Yeah. That.”
He sat up. “The thing is, you’ve seen what going to happen but you don’t know how it ends. If that’s you from the future, that’s how it gotta be, right? And if that’s true what happens to me, to the others-”
He snapped his mouth shut, before breathing in and speaking again.
“I just feel… alone. Which is stupid, I know! You’re with me and we’ve had older, better teams with us most of the way. But I just…” His voice broke, tears threatening to spill over. “I don’t want to be alone again.”
You won’t be. No matter what happens, I won’t leave you.
“You can’t guarantee that.”
I’ll try, regardless. Besides, we’ve already climbed ninety-nine floors and fought three reality warping dragons, how much harder could it be?

Prince is the nickname given to Manaphy.
---
“Rio’s been gone a while, hasn’t he?”
Voltsy looked down, half-expecting Prince to be there, before looking back at the ocean with a sigh.
It had only been a week since Prince had left, and his sadness had slowly, but surely, turned into boredom. Rio got to go and explore dungeons, while he was stuck on bed rest, all because of a cheap shot from a Gastrodon in Craggy Coast.
“I’m just worrying for no reason. If he’s in trouble, he can handle himself. I just… wish he’d told me where he was going.”
Rio had been gone by the time Voltsy had woken up, having left his bed a scattered mess across the floor.
Voltsy sighed again, turning away from the cliff edge to climb back down the ladder before a thought occurred to him. “Kangaskhan probably knows where he is.” He said, starting down the path to Treasure Town.
As it turned out, he didn’t need to go that far. Halfway down the path, he saw Rio in the distance, frantically stuffing a piece of fabric into his bag.
Voltsy stopped, waiting for Rio to reach him, then fell into step beside him. “What were you putting in your bag?”
He probably should’ve been more tactful with how Rio froze up. “Nothing! It’s noth-” He cut himself off, apparently having realised that he was just raising more questions about the ‘nothing’. “I’ll show you when we get home.”
They reached Shapedo Bluff and climbed down into their base, Rio wincing at the straw still scattered across the floor that Voltsy had yet to get around to cleaning up.
“I’m so sorry about the mess. Croagunk said he’d reserve it for me if I brought him the right items to trade, but it was only on a first-come first-served basis-”
“Rio. What is it?”
Rio pulled out the fabric and held it up. “It’s a glare sash; it protects you from Ground-type attacks! Given how badly you were hurt by that Gastrodon, I thought it might help.”
“Oh.” Voltsy said dumbly, too overwhelmed to string a coherent sentence together. “I- Thank you.”
Rio laughed sheepishly. “You’re welcome? It seemed fair when you’ve already got me a ravage ring.” He shrugged. “You might as well try it on, see if it works. I’ve got a bunch of straw to clean up.”

“What do you think?”
Fawkes stared at the… thing Riptide had shoved at him, desperately trying to work out what it was.
It was a vaguely rectangular piece of fabric, splattered in neon orange paint that horribly clashed with the original pastel blue. One of the edges was dotted with ragged holes, as if someone had tried to neatly punch them in before giving up and tearing at the fabric with their teeth.
It was, to put it nicely, an absolutely eyesore.
“Riptide, what the heck?”
“It’s a new flag for our base!” Riptide seemed to be cheerfully oblivious of just how ugly the thing in her hands was.
Fawkes stared blankly at her, then reached out a wing and took the supposed flag from Riptide, steadfastly ignoring the paint soaking into his feathers and Riptide’s muffled snickering-
Wait, what?
He looked up, but Riptide had vanished.
He blinked at the empty space where Riptide had been, before turning his attention back to the fabric, trying to straighten it, only for a piece of paper to fall out.
He picked it up, reading the words written in Riptide’s surprisingly neat handwriting.
This isn’t actually the new flag for our base, but it will be if you don’t stop procrastinating.
It’s been three weeks; go talk to Smeargle.

The final dungeon before the credits is Sky-Splitting Summit, a ninety nine floor dungeon with boss fights on floors twenty five, fifty, seventy five and the peak, with a Kangaskhan rock before and after each one.
The boss fight on floor fifty is against Primal Dialga, who, after reaching half-health, will transform into Origin form Dialga. Fifteen turns after this, if he hasn’t been defeated, the battle will be reset to how it was when he transformed.
The teams from Rescue Team, Explorers, Gates and Super are also climbing the tower; the Explorers team stayed behind to deal with Dialga and the Super team stayed behind to deal with Palkia (the boss on floor twenty five).
---
“Why do you trust me?”
Noelle looked up from sorting out their bag, confused.
“It’s just…” Inferno waved his hand around, struggling to find the words. “The fight with Dialga. It’s my fault it went on so long. If I hadn’t just kept missing-”
He cut himself off, before sighing.
“Surely anyone else would’ve been a better partner. Heck, with how good you are you probably could’ve gone solo and been fine.”
Noelle shoved his notepad at Inferno, a single hastily written sentence instantly stopping his rambling:
It’s not your fault.
“Easy for you to say. You never mess up.”
Noelle pulled his notepad back, scribbling down a couple more sentences, before shoving it at him again.
I mess up a lot; you’re just too focused on your own failures to notice.
And I don’t want a different partner. I trust you because you kept missing, because you kept trying time and time again until it worked.
Inferno smiled. “Thanks, Noelle, that… really helped.” He grabbed the edge of the Kangaskhan rock, pulling himself up, and offering a hand to Noelle. “C’mon then, we’ve got about fifty more floors to climb and the others are way ahead.”

Prince is the nickname given to Manaphy.
---
This was, admittedly, not a great thing to wake up to.
Rio stared at the Riolu standing next to him, on all fours for some reason, watching as they took a deep breath and spoke again.
“Okay. Okay! This is fine, maybe you’re still dreaming. Or maybe it’s an out-of-body experience. Or both!”
He knew that voice. “Voltsy?”
The Riolu - Voltsy apparently - froze. “Rio? Why are you a Shinx?”
“Why are you a Riolu?”
“I don’t know! I just woke up and I was like this and Prince isn’t here and-”
“Voltsy, breathe.”
Rio waited, thinking, until Voltsy had calmed himself down and then spoke.
“Do you think we’ve switched bodies?”
“What? When? How?”
Rio pushed himself up, ignoring how weird it felt to stand on four legs, before continuing.
“You remember that new move Prince learnt? Heart swap? It might’ve been that.”
Voltsy blinked. “Sure. I guess. Why not! But it still doesn’t explain where they are.”
“It’s fine-” Noticing Voltsy’s half-hearted glare, he backtracked. “Well, no, it’s not fine. But we can look for them.”
He stood up and took a step-
Before falling flat on his face.
He glared at the ground, like it was responsible for him falling. “Once I work out how to walk, that is.”

Prompt list.
Yellow gummis taste like lemons.
Shinx (as well as Luxio and Luxray) have night vision and the ability to purr.
Voltsy collects rocks.
---
Voltsy woke up to muffled crying.
He stared at the ceiling for a few seconds in sleepy confusion, before realising that the sound was coming from next to him.
“Rio?” Voltsy whispered, gently shaking him.
Rio twitched, kicking out at nothing, before his eyes snapped open, focusing on Voltsy, who spoke again. “Are you alright?”
Rio sat up, shaking his head. “Had a nightmare”
“Right. Do you want to… talk about it?”
Rio shook his head again, far more vehemently this time.
Voltsy sat up as well, thinking. “Do you want to do Marowak’s grounding thingy instead?”
Rio bit his lip, unsure, before nodding and shuffling over, so he was face-to-face with Voltsy.
“Okay, so…” Voltsy took a deep breath. “Five things you can see?”
Rio looked at him. “You.” He glanced around their base, listing off a few more things. “The rocks, the ivy on the rocks, the pool next to the rocks and the barrels, filled with rocks.” He looked oddly confused, for how long he’d been living here. “Why are there so many rocks?”
Voltsy snorted, ignoring the question, and moving on. “Four things you can touch?”
Rio booped him, before dropping his paw down to the bed. “You, the straw…” He thought for a couple seconds before running his paws through his scarf. “My scarf and my badge.”
He seemed much calmer by now and probably didn’t need to do the rest of the exercise. Then again, knowing Rio, he’d insist on finishing it, regardless, smiling in his adorable, carefree way.
Voltsy shook himself out of his thoughts, realising that he’d been staring at Rio like a gormless idiot. “Right, three things you can hear?”
“Your purring, the ocean and the wind rustling the ivy.”
“Okay, just a couple more. Two thing you can smell-“ He cut himself off, noticing Rio’s expression. “Don’t say me again!”
Rio laughed. “I wasn’t going to too! I was going to say the ocean salt and the flowers.”
Voltsy raised an eyebrow. “Sure you weren’t. Either way, one thing you can taste?” A thought occurred to him. “Wait a second.”
He reached over to their bags, searching through the meticulously organised pockets until he found-
“Gummis?”
Yep, we’ve got an orange one and a yellow one.” He passed the orange one to Rio and bit into his, inhaling the rich citrus smell.
They ate in companionable silence until they’d both finished and lain back down.
Rio glanced at him, almost bashfully, before looking away and closing his eyes. “Thanks, Voltsy. I’m… really glad you’re my partner.”
Voltsy smiled, kneading his straw into a more comfortable shape “I’m glad that your my partner, too.” He yawned. “We’d best go back to sleep. There’s only a few hours until dawn.”

i like the idea that, as legend overexaggerates and distorts the truth, the founding leaders gradually become literal manifestations of their names (as in, tall shadow is a literal shadow, clear sky has clouds in his fur, thunder’s pelt glows with lightning bolts, river ripple’s fur turns into rushing water, etc)

Burning and choking | In my palm
Skin melting as I run | Desperate and thoughtless
I scream, falling to my knees | Looking up in fear
Tears streaming down my face | I speak softly
As I beg for help | Little sparrow
The walls have collapsed | Your friends are safe
I’m trapped | And your work is done
In the smoke and the flames | You will be reborn
And then I’m gone | In this blazing inferno
I hear a voice | Are you awake?
The fox speaks | Little phoenix
I look up | I have a proposal
And all I have to say is- | Will you be my prophet?
