Pastel portrait of Copper

This was done on Red pastel paper with Faber Pitt pastel pencils.  I spent quite a few hours on this and find using pencils are getting more careful in producing a drawing.  I really like this one.

Tenby harbour

This was done while I had time when waiting for my wife while out. This was drawn in ink from a photo from a recent holiday in Tenby.

Derwent pastel pencil on black pastel paper was my choice materials for this sketch.  A side profile of Copper and only a partial drawing was done within a few hours.  I try to get his eyes as best I can.

Tenby in Pastel

This was done in soft unison pastels while on an easel.  I enjoyed this study as it is enabling me to get familiar with pastel painting.  I am slowly getting used to pastel and this scene captured the moment from the photo i took.  I still find getting the detail difficult to achieve.

Copper in Pen

This was a nice and refreshing sketch of Copper in ink.  It was taken from a photo I took of him while on holiday in Tenby. I always like using pen and ink and this drawing especially was a challenge trying to create the wet fur effect.  But i enjoy studying Copper as he has such expressions and this is something I want to capture in my art.

'WILLOW' a Portrait with darker pencils

This drawing was commissioned and as an A3 size tool many hours to complete.  I was very pleased with this study.

Watercolour demo

This was a simple demo at Abercwmboi, Aberdare on Tuesday 5th December 17. I enjoyed doing this one.  The students all had a go and it always surprised me how different everyone is at painting what they see!

A watercolour from the rear of Cyfarthfa Castle

This a a demo done in Llanharan dropin centre today, in the summer I took many photos from the area around the castle,and this shot was interpreted in watercolour today.

Pencil study of Honey

This drawing was a commission for a wedding present for a friend to a friend.  This was an A4 Bristol paper series 3.  I used a number of pencil grades to achieve the likeness.  I was sent a number of photos of Honey and put together the finished image.

It has dawned on me that each drawing I do gets harder to give away when complete, the physical connection to the subject with each stroke and the emotional context of the personality of the animal.  This makes each drawing a journey into the character of the animal.

Another pencil portrait

I have been able to complete another commission.  This was an A4 size, but was still quite involved.  This was my second attempt, the first being done in the method of scribbing the paper to create groves which when graphite was applied left white hair effects, i was not totally happy with that version on this occasion.

This was another commissioned drawing. The use of pencil gives the image more warmth and a sense of realism.

This acrylic painting was the third and final go at capturing Jess. I spent a while doing this project, I am quite pleased with it.
