Well that’s that, my new album ‘Portraits’ is out today:) Feels strangely quiet this morning having my coffee in the front yard. I wrote most of the songs at home here in 2020 and then recorded in early 2021 in Toronto. ‘Portraits’ represents the most investment I’ve ever put into a collection of songs in terms of mental, emotional and physical effort and I am so proud of the songs and their documentation. It was produced by the mighty James Bunton, whose contributions made the collection way stronger than I could have managed on my own. It also features a cast of brilliant players (in order of appearance): @nicohyattphoto, @merganzermusic, James Bunton, @ansleysmusic, @mrfranklin5, Bry Webb, @drewjurecka, and @m_feuerstack. The gorgeous album art was created by @nnicopaulo, based on pictures of me and Alena’s half duplex. It was mastered by the wonderful Heather Kirby at @dreamlands_mastering. I hope you all have a chance to take a listen and that you enjoy what you hear! Lots of love. — Rob #release #album #portraits #robdicksonmusic #releaseday https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce6dIMxlnv5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Montreal! I’m delighted to share that I’ll be coming by for a show on Jul 6 at @ursamtl with the one and only @paperbeatscissors❤️ ✅🥂 Tickets are available now in the link spot🎫😛. Poster art was made by Alena Puskas 😘. P.S. I first heard PBS on YouTube playing live on a rooftop in 2010 and was mesmerized by the songs and voice. Twelve years later I get to play with them. #blessed #montrealconcerts #mtlshows #portraits #midwoodrecords https://www.instagram.com/p/CeReb6xv9WO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey everyone, today is Bandcamp Friday, and my new full length album ‘Portraits’ is available now for pre-order!🤠 The first single ‘Aaron and Rae’ was released today! I’m really proud of this song. Let me know what you think. xo The album was produced by the beloved and talented James Bunton and includes contributions from many of my good friends and heroes including Ansley Simpson (@ansleysmusic), Bryan Webb, Mika Posen (@merganzermusic), Nic Hyatt (@nicohyattphoto), Micah Smith (@mrfranklin5), Drew Jurecka (@drewjurecka) and Michael Feuerstack (@m_feuerstack). The beautiful artwork was made by my friend Nico Paulo (@nnicopaulo). Recording this album was challenging due to COVID, however because of how in-depth the writing process and pre-production was with James via correspondence, the sessions in person were really relaxed and quite cathartic. It felt like a gift to be able to commit a whole week to recording with James in January 2021. A fair amount of accompaniment was added afterwards remotely but having the time together as core collaborators was really intimate and special. More to come soon. Thank you for listening. ❤️ #album #newsong #bandcampfriday https://www.instagram.com/p/CdOFfUdr2M5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Weeeeell, I'm finally ready to share some new music! My new song 'Aaron and Rae' will be coming out this Friday May 6th:) The song is a story that took a long time to write. It features James Bunton on Drums, Bry Webb on lead guitar and backing vocals, and Micah Smith on Bass. It is a reflection on the mistakes we make, and how we use them to grow. I wanted the story to offer as much humanity as it could. Looking forward to sharing more soon on whats to come. You can pre-save at the link in this post, and listen or purchase on Bancamp starting this Friday. More soon! Photo by Colin Medley.

Hey! Long time no see! I'm just checking in to say hi and mention that I've been quietly working on some new music. I was fortunate enough to be awarded a Research and Create grant through Canada Council for the Arts l to pursue the writing of this collection, and a Professional Sound Recording grant from Yukon Media Development to realize the record. Here are some shots from the sessions in Toronto which were done at Union Sound Co. and Dreamdate Studios over about a week's time with my producer James Bunton. These sessions were the reward after having spent more than a year writing, editing and rewriting the collection. The intense work we put in at the writing and preproduction phase has resulted in songs that I feel are my best work. 2020 was a year of tragedy, but also a year of growth and self discovery, of finding connection and meaning in the most simple and essential things. I'm feeling very grateful to have the immense privilege to record this collection of songs in a safe and isolated environment. I'm really looking forward to sharing some new music this year and hopefully doing some performances as well when it is safe to do so.
Take good care and talk soon everyone<3 #quarantinelife #2021 #recordingstudio #newrecord 📷s by Jamie Bunton (1,3,4) & Me (2).

I'm a little late sharing this but in June @newnoisemagazine featured a new song of mine called 'Why Can We Not Stop?' -- check it out at the link below. It's one of the first songs I've written to directly express my discontent with what's happening in the world. It was recorded during the sessions for my 2018 album Looking Through Your Window but with a very different approach and I decided it would work well as a b-side instead. The song was performed by Mika Posen on violin, Jona Barr on synthesizers, and myself on guitar and vocals.
The artwork was created by Paul Henderson of Toronto, a piece titled 'Exhausted Before we Began'.🤘🖤

This spring the band and I had the chance to play while a duo of projection artists cast devastatingly beautiful images on us. Yukon projection duo Erin C-for Corbett and Selene Vakharia adapted their projections from the show to create a video my recent single Water Rushing In.Check out the video on the webstream 📽///// Preorder Looking Through Your Window at SoSorryRecords.com #newmusicvideo #sky #river #wood #water #waterrushingin #lookingthroughyourwindow

Summer 2017
I’ve got many things to mention coming up this summer. First off thank you so much to the audience and to Declan O'Donovan for having me play a few songs for the Broken Sky album release show last night.
Also a big thank you to everyone who come out to see the shows in Peterborough, Guelph and Whitehorse with Ansley Simpson.
In other news, I’m very excited to announce I’ll begin recording songs for a new album late this summer and fall, with support from Yukon Media Development. My mind is getting fired ‘up’ to record some brand new songs that will hopefully be fired 'out’ into the world sometime in the next year.
