Heater Sounds: What Do They Indicate?
If your heater is in good working order, you should hear a quiet hum when it is operating. However, when the heater emits strange sounds, then you should start to worry. If you hear a clang, a screech or a gurgle, it is an indication that something is seriously wrong.
When you hear an unusual noise…
do not hesitate to call for service. Ignoring these suspicious noises make things worse. In some cases, letting these noises go on for longer than you should can lead to a total heater breakdown. Call in an expert as you notice strange sounds so that they can carry out the proper furnace troubleshooting and effective repairs. A change in the noise of your heater might mean it is time to service it or replace a vital part. Below are some sounds you should be aware of and what these sounds can mean.
Banging
When your heater emits a banging noise…
this might mean that there are loose parts inside the heater. If there are loose parts in the heating system, these parts will move around when your heater is running. This will cause the banging sounds.
Expanding air ducts might also be to blame. If your ducts are too small or if they are dirty, they are likely to expand when the heater is turned on. Poor quality ductwork may also cause a banging sound when you turn your heater on. Now, there is no point in experimenting with your heater. The right move is to call in an expert to schedule a home heating repair. They will look at the heating system and solve the problem immediately.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘b73d1277-30d8-4f5b-89fc-2eade522c04d’, {});
Booming
A loud booming noise from your heater is usually bad news. If you turn on your heater and you hear a loud boom, turn off the heater immediately and call in an expert. You will need emergency heating service repair.
This is because this sound might is an indication of gas buildup. Accumulation of gas in your furnace might lead to an explosion and this is something you do not want. Consult an expert immediately to solve the problem. Some homeowners put off a repair like this due  to their concern for furnace repair cost. Consequently, if you keep using the heater, it leads to serious and irreversible complications later.
Chirping And Ticking
At the beginning of winter, many homeowners turn on the heat or they want to check to see if the heater is working well. You switch on the heater and you hear a chirping sound. If the heater has not been in use for a long time, the sound may stop after an hour or two. If the sound persists, it means you might have a misaligned belt on your hands. Get in touch with your HVAC expert to realign the belt or replace it if the old one is no longer working.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’39dd47ac-4a2d-4661-8a7b-7368fb7367a2′, {});
Grinding
If you hear a grinding noise from your heater…
you should turn it off and call in an expert immediately. The blower wheel may have a problem. The most likely explanation is that your heater’s motor wheel has a detached blower wheel. This causes the blower wheel to hit the blower wheel casing. This why you hear that grinding sound. A grinding sound from your heater also means the motor mounts are not functioning the right way. Turn off the systems and do not use the heater until after an HVAC technician repairs it.
youtube
  Squealing And Screeching
When you hear a squealing or a screeching sound, the most likely cause is motor bearing troubles. A failing motor might also lead to screeching and squealing sounds. In some cases, a broken fan belt might cause the screeching and squealing sounds. Regular maintenance on your heater can help prevent these types of issues. Get an expert to carry out annual heater tune-ups and, more than likely, you will not hear screeching and squealing sounds.

Why An AC Installation During The Winter Makes Sense
It may go against the grain, but there are certain advantages that come with purchasing an AC during the winter. Nevertheless, wise homeowners know, that by planning ahead, they can save money.
A variety of benefits come from replacing air conditioning units during cold winter months. With proper preparations, you can prevent problems from arising with an older cooling system when the hot weather arrives. In this article, we are going to discuss just a few reasons you should think about taking care of your air conditioning requirements before summer arrives.
Procrastination May Cause Added Expense
If you are looking to buy a new air conditioner…
there is no better time than winter to make that purchase. By procrastinating, you’ll be running the risk of missing out on off-season deals that could save a bundle. If your current AC unit is old and worn out, the potential for it breaking down during the heat of summer is great. This is when most outdated air conditioners break down. By purchasing a new air conditioner during the winter, you can face the summer heat without any worries.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘b73d1277-30d8-4f5b-89fc-2eade522c04d’, {});
Understanding Cooling Needs
By shopping for an A/C during the winter, you have more time to research your options thoroughly. You can compare units and prices to get a better understanding of your needs. You can also consult with a variety of air conditioning companies to find out what they have to say about your home’s requirements. With multiple estimates in hand, you can get the best deal and select the best HVAC company in your area.
Proper installation of any new cooling system is of vital importance. Your AC’s installation affects how well the unit performs and how efficient it is from the start. By planning ahead, you get to choose the air conditioner you really need and a company you can trust to install it. This allows you unnecessary expenses down the road.
youtube
  Less Demand For Professional Installation
We have all heard about the effects of supply and demand. Well, this is true when it comes to air conditioning units and their installation costs. Cost for installation is higher during the spring and summer. Conversely, it costs less during the off-season because many companies offer discounts on the equipment and its installation. You can actually save quite a bit and spend those savings on something else you need around the house.
With less demand for professional air conditioner installation in the winter, you are able to pick and choose between qualified and trustworthy HVAC contractors. You can also avoid the madness of scheduling installation during peak season. You’re more likely to have the ability to schedule at a convenient time since it is less hectic for the contractor.
  https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘ea42e28b-8b4d-4762-8fb8-8c5e173bf86d’, {});
Lower Prices
Quality air conditioning systems are expensive.
However, when you purchase them during the off season, you can take advantage of the lower air conditioner replacement cost. Winter is when most central air conditioner prices are at their lowest. This makes it the most opportune time to get good deals on an A/C unit. Remember that prices for the purchase and installation of an air conditioning system are sure to rise the closer it gets to summer.
Working the cost of a new AC system into your winter budget alleviates summer financial pressures. With the cost of replacing an old worn out air conditioner out of the way, you will have extra money for vacationing with the family and taking part in other summer family activities.
Air Conditioning Installation Lehighton PA
It is the wise homeowner who understands the value of shopping for an AC during the winter. You save money and make the installation easier all while getting exactly what you want. If your heater is on its way out, then replacing your heater and air conditioner at the same time further increases the savings. In fact, you save a lot more when you replace both units at the same time. Basically, the average cost of furnace and air conditioner replacement is much cheaper. However, it is always best to consult with an HVAC specialist before making such investments.

NATE Certification Means Excellence In HVAC Service
Homeowners often want to know how to find a quality HVAC contractor…
for installation, repairs or maintenance for their heating and cooling system.
One of the most important things to look for to ensure you’re getting help from a professional contractor with experience and knowledge is to hire one that is NATE certified. In this article, we will discuss why.
Introduction: What’s NATE?
NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence. It is the largest certifying, non-profit organization in the HVAC sector. Multiple stakeholders in the HVAC industry are members of this organization on a voluntary basis. Technicians seeking training and certification from this organization do so because they want to improve their professional standing. HVAC contractors recognize NATE as an authority in the industry.
NATE offers the most up-to-date training…
and ensures that their technicians have the necessary skills and knowledge for servicing today’s heating and cooling systems.
What Do You Get When You Hire A NATE Certified HVAC Contractor?
Trusted Certification and Knowledgeable Technicians
Out of every HVAC institution that provides certification in North America, HVAC experts understand that NATE is the best. It is the premiere certifying institution in the industry. The NATE training programs are under constant revision. This revision ensures that the syllabus contains the most current skills and knowledge. Technicians within this organization receive the latest information about what is new and going on in the industry.
Also, NATE HVAC experts regularly revise the certification tests. The certification does not last a lifetime. HVAC contractors must complete the test every five years. Also, on top of that, to keep their certification current, the technicians must receive 60 hours of advanced education in the HVAC industry. This is why the certification and training program ensures all NATE technicians remain up to date on how to properly service HVAC equipment.
Efficiency Of HVAC Equipment
All HVAC equipment is sold with manuals that include the manufacturer’s specs. The manual also includes installation instructions as well as necessary service procedures. This allows the equipment to operate at its optimum efficiency.
NATE certification provides technicians the knowledge they need to install and service heating and cooling systems. They know what it takes to get the job done to ensure that your machine works the way that you expect it to.
When equipment receives proper service, it provides maximum comfort throughout its life. This is regardless of what the temperatures are like outside. You can count on it to give you the comfort that you need. Another benefit is that it consumes less energy and your heater or air conditioner has a longer lifespan. This makes proper service worth it. You increase your comfort, decrease your energy costs, and avoid premature replacement.

Money Saving And Peace Of Mind Guaranteed
It is more than just inconvenient when your heater or air conditioner breaks down. It is also very uncomfortable. That is the reason most equipment owners look for reliable HVAC technicians when that happens. A NATE-certified technician is a true professional who will provide service in an efficient manner. Therefore, you can feel confident that when you hire NATE certified technicians, they will do their job as quickly as possible without. They won’t waste your time or money.

Quality Advice
HVAC technicians with NATE certification receive up-to-date information. They can use this knowledge to help maintain energy-saving technology and service. These technicians use current industry standards.
Nate-certified contractors, therefore, are in a position to offer reliable service and advice on the best HVAC equipment.

What Is A Furnace’s Lifespan?
If you are a homeowner, you might question, “how long does a furnace last?”. Furnaces are an important appliance in your home. They help keep you warm and comfortable in the winter time.
However, they are expensive to replace. Many new homeowners know that if a major appliance breaks down in their home, they will have to spend a considerable amount of money to replace it.
On average, a new furnace should last about 15 years.
However, not every furnace lasts that long. Some furnaces are even capable of making it past the 15 year mark. Some do not. When it comes to furnace longevity, the answer depends on several factors. Below is an outline of some of the variables that can affect the lifespan of your furnace.
The Factors Influencing A Heater’s Life
The main factors that can influence how long your furnace lasts are…
its age, brand, maintenance history and the climate in which you live. Of course, older furnaces don’t typically last as long as newer ones. Also, a high quality furnace will outlast one that is cheaply made. A furnace that does not get an annual tune-up will usually need a replacement sooner than one that receives regular, proper maintenance. Also, a heating unit that works continuously throughout the winter months due to freezing temperatures will likely have a shorter life span than one in more a temperate climate.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’46ac01ee-8c54-4fbe-9714-1125ac2fa3a4′, {});
The Age Of Your Heater
If you buy an older home and you’re sure that the furnace is old, chances are that it is time to start thinking about a replacement. However, if the previous owner was on top of routine maintenance and did not over-work it, it could potentially last for 20 or 25 years. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with many homeowners. Also, a heater’s efficiency decreases with age.
Before purchasing a home, it is a good idea to ask the owners how old the furnace is and whether it received regular maintenance. If you know with certainty that your furnace is older than 15 years, it is time to think about replacing it. This is especially true if you find yourself having to constantly repair it. Spending money on numerous repairs will just drain your wallet. It is better to invest your money in a new efficient heating system.
The Furnace Brand
As with most appliances, you will likely find that there are higher-quality and lower-quality brands available for you to buy. To find the best gas furnace, you can’t judge how flashy the manufacturer is with their units. Also, you can’t judge a brand by how many commercials you see on TV.
Instead, rely on the appliance’s warranty information and reviews from actual customers. If you search online and you notice a brand of furnace that has consistently good reviews from a lot of people, it’s safe to assume that it is good quality and will last you for the 15 year life span.
If the manufacturer offers a long warranty on the appliance…
it’s a good indication that it will last for the entire 15 year life cycle or longer. A company that offers warranties doesn’t do it randomly. The warranties are based on actual mathematical probabilities of equipment failure along with other factors. Reputable furnace manufacturers stand behind their products and they aren’t in the business of fixing things for free. So, if your furnace has a good warranty, you can feel comfortable that it will last you a long time with proper care. Read the warranty carefully when purchasing your heater.
The Furnace’s Maintenance History
Maintaining your furnace is important…
for ensuring its longevity. If it is neglected, it’s going to die a lot quicker than one that receives proper care. To make your furnace lifespan last its full life cycle, you must do certain things.
Homeowners should make sure that they are changing the filter regularly, scheduling repairs when necessary, and getting an annual inspection by an HVAC professional. These steps will ensure that it remains in good working order. Not only will your furnace perform better, but these tasks also help your system last for its expected lifespan.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘7265f1b0-f88a-458b-b35c-10de16657b17’, {});
The Climate You Live In
The environmental conditions that your furnace lives in can affect its lifespan. Although this factor doesn’t carry as much weight like the importance of regular maintenance,  it does play a role. Good furnaces are meant to last. However, furnaces that work hard and live in cold climates deal with more wear and tear. If you live in an extremely cold environment where the furnace is constantly working, it will likely wear down faster than a heater in milder regions where a heating system isn’t constantly in use all the time.
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

  Furnace Replacement Lehighton PA
Each of these factors can influence the other, so it is important for homeowners to understand that no one factor alone will make or break your furnace. You should contact an experienced HVAC professional to inspect your furnace. They can give you an opinion on how long it is likely to last and they can provide you with details on your furnace’s condition. Trying to repair or do a furnace installation diy on your own is never a good option. What You Should Know About Gas Leaks In Jim Thorpe
Home After A Natural Gas Explosion
When you have a gas leak in your Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania home, then this is a very serious situation. Ohl offers both professional HVAC and plumbing services which you can take advantage of to prevent a situation like this from happening in your home.
All of our services are fast and affordable. You can count on us to do the job right, the first time. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priority.

What You Need To Know About Gas Leaks
A gas leak occurs when natural gas leaks from a pipeline. Gas leaks can cause the buildup of pressure, which makes it very dangerous. It can lead to an explosion that can destroy a home and even the entire neighborhood. Also, a natural gas leak can affect all of the nearby vegetation. Finally, natural gas can release dangerous greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In this article, you will learn the signs of a gas leak that you should know about. You will also learn the risks and what you should do if you believe that there is a gas leak in your home.
When it comes to gas leaks…
there are several risk factors. Digging and excavation can hit and damage a pipeline. This can result in a gas leak. Over the last several years, aging pipelines have become a growing issue. This is especially true in areas along the northeast where the infrastructure is up to a century old. As pipes age, they tend to rust. This is where the pressure can start to build up which can create a gas leak. If the gas leak is in a confined space, such as a utility hole or a basement, it takes just one small spark to cause an explosion. Sparks from electrical equipment are also common. These are reasons why it is not uncommon for a gas leak to be fatal.

  What Should You Do If You Have a Gas Leak In Your House
Vacate the House Immediately
If you think that you have a gas leak…
you should leave your home immediately. If you are planning to read up on some information because you think you have a gas leak, you shouldn’t. Just get out of the house immediately, then call 911. Once outside the house, use your cell phone or go to a neighbor’s house to call emergency services.
Natural gas is typically odorless. By the time you discover a smell in the air of your house, it can be too late. If you inhale enough of the gas, you could suffocate. You should get yourself, your family, and your pets out of the home immediately and call 9-1-1. Also, be sure to call R.F. Ohl to come and service your equipment.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘a62fddae-9c28-4b04-b7fa-a916bac0f9db’, {});
Do You Smell Sulfur?
There are plenty of gas companies who understand how dangerous odorless gas is. It can come into your home without you even knowing. For your protection, most gas companies add a sulfur additive to the natural gas so that it will have a unique smell. If you find that something in the house smells like sulfur or rotten eggs, you likely have a gas leak.
Use Gas Detectors
A gas detector will signal you…
when there is an elevated level of gas in the home. These monitors are especially useful if you have a diminished sense of smell. You should get a gas detector that can also detect carbon monoxide. If you are renting, ask your landlord to pay for the gas and carbon monoxide detector.
Turn Off The Gas
If you can easily reach the gas valve near the gas pipe, turn it off. If you cannot reach it easily or if you don’t know where it is, you should just focus on getting out with your family and your pets.
Don’t Use Electronics
If you think that you have a gas leak, don’t turn on any electronics. This is one of the major causes for explosions in homes.
Electronics can cause a spark and even the smallest spark can result in an explosion.
This includes your doorbell and your cell phone. If you are going to call 9-1-1 from your cell phone, do so when you are outside, far from your house as soon as you get everyone out safely.

R.F. Ohl Shows Its Support To The Local Community During The Polar Plunge
R.F. Ohl is happy to announce that we have sponsored the 4th annual Polar Plunge Challenge. The event was held on Saturday, January 27th at the Mauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe.
Temperatures leading up to the event were in the high 30s and, fortunately for our participants, the expected temperature for Saturday was in the 50s. However, we can all admit that this is not exactly the ideal temperature to go for a swim.
The water was cold and, with the bravest of hearts, our participants dove in to the frigid lake to support this local event.
Thanks to all who participated. It was a lot of fun and a great way to spend time on a Saturday!
This year, one of R.F. Ohl’s own, Kassy Hoffsteter, did the plunge.
R.F. Ohl Provided Space Heaters For The Polar Plunge
Fortunately, R.F. Ohl was able to provide some portable space heaters on that day so that those, who choose to watch the participants, could stay warm. Also, the participants themselves were certainly happy that they could warm up after taking their daring dive.
R.F. Ohl is glad that they, not only sponsored a local event, but that they could provide some comfort. Being active in the local community is one of Ohl’s fundamental principles. As a family owned and operated business, community means everything to them. Comfort is one of R.F. Ohl’s specialties.

How To Deal With Frozen Pipes
When the temperature outside drops below freezing, this could cause the water in your pipes to freeze. Since water expands when it freezes, this could damage your pipes.
As the water solidifies, it also pushes towards the closed faucet, causing water pressure to build up. This eventually causes the pipe to rupture. A burst pipe is very frustrating to deal with. There are many problems that come with an issue like this. To prevent problems like this from happening, read on to learn about the dangers of Lehighton PA frozen pipes and what you can do about it.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘5ce05de4-c605-4f43-bddf-2a6a9094aaa7’, {});
Risks Of Frozen Pipes
The pipes that are most at risk of freezing and bursting are those that are outside of the building’s insulation and in areas that do not have heat. Attics, crawlspaces and basements are the areas that are most at risk.
Beside the issue of a frozen or burst pipe…
there is also the danger of mold formation. Water from a broken pipe causes damage to your home’s structure that leads to the development of mold. This can seriously impact your indoor air quality and cause allergies and other illnesses. This is particularly dangerous for those who suffer from asthma. Cleaning up a ruptured pipe exposes your family members to toxins such as asbestos or paint lead. So, it’s important to use preventative measures to avoid ice from forming in your pipes. The time to do it is worth it since frozen pipe problems are far worse than preventing them in the first place.

  How Your Plumber Can Help With Frozen Pipes
One of the best ways to prevent ice formation in your pipes is to use proper insulation. A plumber with experience will know how to correctly install the right type of insulation for different kinds of pipes. Sometimes an air leak may cause the pipes to freeze. This is typically around the entry points. A plumber can ensure that the entry points are airtight by using foam or caulking. In some cases, a plumber will use foam or caulking with insulation directly inside the pipe cavity.
Areas With No Heat
Pipe insulation is especially useful in spaces…
that do not get heat. Your plumber can find all of the pipes and their entry points around your home. Sometimes an uninsulated pipe is in an unexpected place, such as near an outdoor sprinkler system in your yard. Also, cabinets sometimes have pipes with no insulation underneath them.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’06f9d958-d98e-4be9-96ff-4ca085747d8b’, {});
Older Homes
In some older homes, the pipes are sometimes in locations that you may never suspect. Construction planning is very different than it was in the past. For this reason, pipes in improper locations freeze more easily since they are exposed to the elements in the winter season. For these types of situations, the homeowner has to constantly deal with unfreezing water pipes or a burst water pipe. Removing and relocating pipes that freeze regularly is a costly and extensive process. However, it is a necessary to permanently solve the problem, especially when all other measures do not work.
Larger Tubing
A plumber may also decide to use larger tubing…
as they hold larger volumes of water and do not freeze as easily. Smaller, thinner pipes are likely to freeze faster, particularly when the water isn’t actively flowing. By using a professional plumber, the installation process is seamless and helps prevent future complications. Homeowners should not attempt to do a project like this as only a professional should handle a project like this.
.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

Preventing Drafts & Air Leaks In Your Home
Everyone wants a comfortable and cozy home, especially in the winter months. However, many homes lose their warmth when maintaining warm indoor temperatures becomes difficult. Cranking up the temperature only reduces the energy efficiency in your home and causes your energy bills to skyrocket. An inefficient home is much more costly to maintain in the long run.
By preventing and detecting drafts and air leaks…
you can increase the level of energy efficiency in your home and improve its comfort level all year round. Air sealing is an important part of this process. If you are unfamiliar with air sealing, this article will discuss the best ways to prevent common air leaks in Lehighton PA homes.
  https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘225c4b9c-719e-4361-8c96-708db204d644’, {});
Air Leak Prevention Tips And Tricks
To prevent a drafty home, the first step is knowing where the most common air leaks can occur. These are some of the biggest energy drains in your own home. Begin by looking in the areas that are normally the biggest culprits of energy loss, such as the attic. Make sure that the attic has proper insulation and that there no noticeable cracks or gaps. If you find any cracks, fill them with a squirt foam.
The next place to check is the basement. Locate and seal any cracks to prevent cold air from leaking into the upper rooms and levels of your home. Remember that in larger homes, it is not uncommon to find several small leaks. These small leaks are costly to the homeowner over time.
Running Air Leak Tests In Each Room
Hiring a contractor with specialized air leak detection tools…
to find air leaks is always a good idea. They can easily locate any problem areas in your home and offer helpful suggestions on improving your home’s energy use. However, there are also some simple air sealing techniques that you can try yourself. After ensuring that the attic and basement are free of any air leaks, go from room to room. Inspect any areas where leaks are most likely to occur, such as the cracks along the doorways and around the window frames.
  https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’39dd47ac-4a2d-4661-8a7b-7368fb7367a2′, {});
Know The Common Culprits
Recessed lights are one of the leading causes of air leaks in the home. However, the following steps can easily prevent this. Firstly, purchase lights that are labeled as insulation contact and air tight (ICAT). Then, seal any existing lights by using airtight baffle.
Another option, which is quick and less expensive, is to plug open-stud cavities into the walls using insulation-filled garbage bags. This is a great way to stop air flow. Also, remember to close any gaps inside the chimney and flues. Caulk the edges around the windows and door frames. Doing so prevents small air leaks from impacting your heat levels over time.
Homeowners often don’t realize how much harder the furnace has to work.
Your heater works harder to compensate for air leaks that drain heat from the home. By sealing up any drafts and air leaks in your home, you will certainly reduce home heating costs. In addition, your heater will not have to work as hard which reduces the amount of stress that is placed on it. Minimizing the stress on your heater is a great way to extend its lifespan and minimize repair costs.

  Common Air Leaks In Homes Lehighton PA
Home maintenance tasks may feel like a drain on your time and finances. However, staying on top of these issues is a great way to minimize any larger issues that crop up in the future. By using the appropriate knowledge, such as where air leaks commonly occur, homeowners can protect their homes and their wallets to prevent air leaks that drain energy efficiency in the home.
Air leak prevention enhances your home’s energy efficiency, but giving your heating system a tune-up is important as well. Your heating system needs annual maintenance by an HVAC professional. This will keep it working properly so that your home will remain nice and warm throughout the winter months. Regular tune-ups also help to reduce your energy costs because the heating unit does not have to work as hard to keep your home warm.
For the best HVAC service, contact R.F. Ohl today to schedule an appointment. Our HVAC contractors are NATE certified and very experienced. They can help to enhance your system’s performance. Additionally, they will make useful suggestions to improve the energy use in your home.

Air Conditioner Options For Homes That Don’t Have A Ductwork System
Many homes throughout Pennsylvania were constructed without a ductwork system. While this may have been okay back in the day, the summer temperatures have grown increasingly warmer. This leaves homeowners questioning what they can do in order to stay cool and comfortable during the hot and humid summers. Going without an AC system is out of the question. Therefore, homeowners in this position need to explore what options are available to them. In this article, we will go through some of the air conditioning options for homes without ductwork. This includes the option of a window AC unit, adding ductwork, and a ductless air conditioner.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘a7106942-2fce-4413-ae34-9d7be0c413a3’, {});
Individuals who have homes without a central air conditioning system…
have opted to use a window AC unit in order to solve their issue. However, after installing one of these units, they quickly come to realize that a window unit did not solve their problem. They still feel uncomfortable when temperatures rise. Also, their home feels humid. They immediately notice that their energy bill is out of control. Window units are notoriously known for consuming an excessive amount of energy. Homeowners have also stated that they are unable to enjoy quiet activities such as reading a book or watching a movie since window units are excessively loud. Some homeowners even claim that they notice a decrease in their indoor air quality since window units do not filter air adequately.
Another solution for a home that does not have a ductwork system is a ductless air conditioning system. These systems are becoming quite popular throughout the United States and they are widely used throughout Europe. It is common for these types of systems to be installed in homes that already have an existing system. They are used as an energy efficient AC unit to supplement their existing system. However, they are also a great alternative for homes that do not have an air conditioning system set in place.
The reason that ductless systems are so appealing is because the installation of ducts presents other complications that many would prefer to do without. Installing ducts in a home is quite costly and it takes a lot of time. Anyone who has done this will, more than likely, agree that if they had to make the choice again, they would have opted for a ductless system instead.
Installing ducts is a major construction project…
that requires the significant alteration of the walls and ceilings. Not only that, but the time that it takes to install a new duct system is time consuming. The occupants of the home have to put up with living in a construction zone for the duration of the project. Also, many older homes cannot handle the electrical needs of a new central AC unit. This incurs an additional expense of upgrading the circuit breaker box that gives this option a poor return on investment. WHen it comes down to it, no one really wants to rebuild their home.
One of the most attractive features of a ductless system…
is that they are quick and easy to install. For most homes, the installation takes about a day. The HVAC contractor places a hole in the wall that is about three inches in diameter. This small hole is used to run electrical wires that connect the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. The installation of these units is not invasive and homeowners can enjoy a cool and comfortable environment by the end of the day. These systems offer:
quiet operation
high SEER ratings to help reduce cooling costs
improved indoor air quality due to state-of-the-art filtration systems
extreme comfort levels
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘b704ce92-79d8-45ef-bd2a-8ed2573faf57’, {});
Ductless Air Conditioner Reviews
There are a few factors to consider before buying a ductless air conditioner. As with all appliances, some manufacturers produce a higher quality product than others. The same goes for ductless AC systems. It is important to explore what is available so that you can find the best one for your home.
The factors that you should consider before making such an investment include:
BTU’s
the number of cooling zones in your home
the type of installation that your home requires
Single zone homes only need one indoor air handler which connects to one outdoor unit. If your home is relatively large, then you may need a multi-zone system where there are many indoor air handlers that connect to one outdoor compressor. The only way to determine how many zones your home has is by taking a measurement of the square footage of your home and figuring out how many BTUs your home requires to properly air condition it. Installation type is also another consideration that you need to take into account before purchasing your unit.
Ductless systems offer a lot of flexibility…
when it comes to installation. There are ceiling units and wall mounted units available. However, it is important to note that ceiling units are available to single zone homes only. You can choose to install these as recessed, concealed, or suspended units. If you have a larger home, then you will need to explore multi-zone units. The only way to correctly determine your air conditioning needs is by consulting with a professional HVAC contractor.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘c12abbac-b70d-4060-a1f1-359913694065’, {});
Mitsubishi vs. Fujitsu
There are many ductless air conditioning brands available. However, there are two of all of them that seem to outshine the others. They are both reliable and energy efficient. Both brands offer long warranties and increased levels of comfort. The first is Mitsubishi and the other ductless brand is Fujitsu. Although both brands are far superior out of all the ductless air conditioner brands, Mitsubishi has surpassed Fujitsu and other other manufacturers in various aspects.
Mitsubishi offers ductless AC systems…
that have high SEER ratings. Some units have a SEER rating that goes as high as 20-22. These systems offer a cooler and more comfortable environment for a fraction of the cost. No one can contest that, when they open their energy bill, they are pleasantly pleased that they can feel so comfortable while paying less at the same time.
Also, as with all appliances and HVAC systems, long warranties indicate that the manufacturer stands by its product. Mitsubishi offers impressive warranties with their ductless systems. They cover parts for 5 years and they cover their compressor for 7 years. Even better, if you install a Mitsubishi ductless system and register it within 90 days, then you receive at 10-year warranty for both parts and the compressor. If you hire a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, they further extend the warranty, where the compressor and parts and covered for 12 years. Not only does Mitsubishi offer increased comfort and energy efficient operation, but they stand by their ductless systems with long warranties which is a great indicator of a high quality product.

  Ductless Cooling Costs
Naturally, when exploring air conditioning options…
homeowners will question the cost of each option. Ductless air conditioner costs vary. There are various factors that come into play. These include:
The unit’s size
The type of unit
Installation type
The number of zones that your home has
The capacity of your circuit breaker
Configuration
As mentioned earlier, there are different options available when installing a ductless AC system in your home. The configuration of your system can affect the ductless installation cost, depending on these factors. A more complicated configuration will cost more to install. Therefore, the configuration of your system can move your ductless air conditioner installation cost from the low end of the pricing scale to the high end.
Single Zone Ductless Systems
If your home only needs a single zone system, then the installation consists of one indoor unit and one outdoor unit, Of course, there is a line that runs through the walls to connect the two. Costs for this type of setup range from $3,500 to $5,000. Usually single zone ductless systems are appropriate for offices, sun rooms, additions, garages, and other small areas. These systems are installed in homes that do not have an enormous amount of space that needs cooling. They work well in small homes that do not have a ductwork system or additions where the existing ductwork is unable to extend into it.
Multi-Zone Ductless Systems
As with all HVAC installations…
the cost of installing a multi-zone system varies. A large home may require three or more units. However, this depends on the actual layout of the house, along with the cooling demands of the occupants of the home. The cost for a multi-zone setup ranges between $7,000 to $10,000. A home that consists of 4 cooling zones costs between $14,000 to $17,000. Therefore, as you can see, the configuration and installation type of your system can greatly affect the cost. It is important to note that once you install a ductless system, you have the option to add more units to your home if you need to at a later time. You can add a zone when it fits into your budget plan.
The cost of installing a ductless air conditioning system may seem steep at first. However, all homeowners who have had a ductless AC system installation will agree that an investment like this pays for itself quickly. Since they are so energy efficient, you will pay less for your home cooling costs. Thus, the installation of a ductless air conditioner is a smart investment for your home.

Dealing With Long Wait Times For Your Heating Oil Delivery In The Lehigh Valley?
At R.F. Ohl, our goal is to provide all of our customers with professional, affordable, and timely fuel deliveries. We aim to go above and beyond your expectations by offering high-quality fuels such as heating oil and propane. You can count on our deliveries to be friendly and fast. When the winter arrives, inclement weather and supply shortages delay regular delivery schedules from most fuel delivery companies in the Lehigh Valley.
Some companies are estimating a week or more…
before they can deliver your heating oil or propane. This situation can put any homeowner in a scary situation. When the temperatures drop, it is vital for your comfort and safety to have the fuel that you depend on. However, we have found a way to prevent consumers from having to deal with these inconveniences when your order your fuel through us.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘2b4f876e-8aba-4e0c-9709-62b3ceaaac8c’, {});

Are You Dealing With Long Wait Times For Your Fuel Delivery?
Many fuel delivery companies estimate such long wait times because there is a high demand for fuel. As you know, the temperatures have suddenly dropped which causes an increase in heating oil and propane. Their delivery trucks run out of fuel quickly and, consequently, they need to refill their trucks more often.
They can’t keep up with consumer demands.
Additionally, they have to drive to a fueling station in order to refill their trucks. The drive to a fueling station takes a considerable amount of time and, not only that, there are long lines once you get there. This is the reason is why they estimate such long wait times. R.F. Ohl offers short wait times because we have a fuel depot onsite. We do not have to spend the time filling our trucks at a fueling station or waiting in line before we can get to you.
R.F. Ohl knows that not everyone has the time to order their fuel with enough time before they run out. If your fuel company has estimated a week or longer before they can get to you, then you can order from us. You will not have to wait, and you will not have to deal with the stress of running out.

No Power? No Problem
In the event of a power outage…
many companies are unable to offer deliveries. A power outage disrupts service for most fuel delivery companies until the power turns back on. R.F. Ohl has also prevented our customers from having to deal with this. We have a generator on site. So, if you are low on fuel and without power, we can get to you fast to deliver the fuel that you need.

How To Improve You Indoor Air Quality During The Winter
During the summer, chances are, you don’t think about the air quality in your home. This is because you can simply open the windows to ventilate the home on a regular basis. When it is cold outdoors, opening the windows is not really an option. This can make it difficult to get fresh air into your home when you need it. Consequently, when you are unable to open the windows to let fresh air into your home, the old stale air will circulate throughout it.
Because it is more important to be warm…
you will be forced to reduce your indoor air quality standards in your home.  Stale air can lead to respiratory issues and more sickness between household members. It is vital to have fresh air and to stay warm at the same time. Fortunately, there are a few things that you can do to improve indoor air quality in your Lehighton PA home and stay warm during the cold winters. In this article, we will discuss some tips that you can use to improve your air quality even when it is extremely cold out.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘7265f1b0-f88a-458b-b35c-10de16657b17’, {});
Clean Your HVAC Registers And Vents
The dust in your home constantly circulates through your HVAC system. Even if you dust your home on a daily basis, this problem will still occur. To reduce the amount of dust that circulates through your HVAC unit, you can use the wand attachment on your vacuum cleaner around the unit and vents to decrease the amount of dust that will move throughout the home. Recent studies that publish research on indoor air quality facts claim that this is a great way to improve the quality of the air in your home.
Use A Humidifier
When your windows are closed and your heat is on, it can cause the air in the home to become dry.
Since a dry environment doesn’t feel as warm…
you may turn up the heat to compensate. To moisten up the air inside the house, you can use a humidifier. A moist environment feels much warmer than a dry one because dry air doesn’t carry heat as well. A decent model is relatively inexpensive and they are not costly to run.
Replace The Filters
It is important that you check your air filters for dirt and debris often. If you find that the filters are clogged with dirt and debris, change them immediately. It is best to check the filters on a monthly basis. Since every home is different, you should make it a habit to check your filters often. This is because some homes require a filter replacement more often than others, especially homes with pets or homes that have construction nearby. Check your filters all year long. However, it is especially important during the winter. When the home is airtight, the filters clog up faster.
Crack A Window
It is a good idea to crack a window in the house occasionally, even if it is cold outside. Letting in a small amount of fresh air can do wonders for the air quality in your home. This is especially true if it has been airtight for weeks or months. Because leaving a window open will put added strain on your furnace and results in more expensive heating costs, you should only leave the window open about an inch or two for a short period of time.
Get Some Green Houseplants
If you place several green, lush houseplants in your home…
it will reduce the amount of carbon monoxide and benzene in your home. This will improve the air quality. Since the air quality in the home can greatly affect your health, houseplants are a great investment during any season. Not only do houseplants improve the air quality of the home, they can add style and flair to the area where you place them. There have also been studies that have shown that having houseplants in the home can reduce your stress level. If you have a green thumb, houseplants are a welcome addition to your home. Even if you don’t think you have a green thumb, the winter is a good time to cultivate it.
The Importance Of Regular Maintenance
It is important that you schedule a yearly tune-up for your furnace. When the heater is off, dust, dirt, and all indoor air pollution sources can accumulate in the system and then circulate throughout the house. During the routine maintenance, the tech will clear out all of the contaminants in the heater, which will improve the air quality in the home. Also, when the HVAC system is tuned up, it will work more efficiently. This will ensure that the home will be warm during the winter and it will keep your heating bill down. When it comes to hiring someone to service your HVAC system, you should only work with a reputable company.

The Importance Of Size When Buying A New Heating System
When you’re ready to install a new furnace, there are many things to think about. You need to find the right HVAC company to install it. You also need to find the best financing for your heater’s installation. Additionally, you must spend time thinking about what a properly-sized heating unit is. This is true, regardless if you have a forced air system or a boiler heating system. In this article, we will discuss the importance of size when your home requires a heating installation service in Lehighton PA.
  https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘b407dc2a-292f-4c73-b4f5-675b4b94a8fc’, {});
The HVAC Contractor
Having the best home heating options in your home…
is important since this impacts your comfort. It also affects how much you’re paying for it. Unless you’re a licensed heating technician yourself, you need to hire an experienced HVAC contractor. They can help you choose the right heater and install it for you.
Some of the other things that a contractor will want to do when they’re trying to find the best heating system for house includes:
Measure your home’s total floor area.
Check what type of insulation and materials are used in the building.
There are various things technicians check before deciding what type of heating system will work best for your home. Once they’ve assessed these factors, they’ll determine what the size of heating system your home needs. There are some important reasons why you need to install a heater that actually meets your home’s heating requirements.
Improved Energy Efficiency
When you invest in a heater with a higher heating power than necessary, it will turn on and off often. This is because it only takes the heater a few minutes to heat up your entire home. Immediately after it completes this, it turns off. After a short period of time, it turns on again.
This type of rapid cycling reduces your heater’s energy efficiency. Over-sized heaters usually consume more power when they’re frequently turning on and off than they do when they’re running for longer periods of time.
The result is higher energy bills. This also increases the wear and tear on your unit. It reduces the heater’s life expectancy. For these reasons, you must find the most efficient heating system for your home by ensuring that it is the right size.
  https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’39dd47ac-4a2d-4661-8a7b-7368fb7367a2′, {});
Extend Your Heater’s Lifespan
Heating units with too little heating power…
get overworked. Also, they won’t meet your heating needs. Instead, your home is always at a lower temperature than what you need to feel comfortable. When your heater is overworked, the heater’s lifespan is also shortened.
Increase Your Heating System’s Lifespan
Obviously, a furnace that’s either too big or too small for your home’s needs will compromise what you pay each month in regards to your heating bills. So, in order to increase your furnace’s lifespan, you must install one that’s the perfect size for your home.
Improve Your Home’s Comfort
When you install a properly-sized heating system, it will work more efficiently and, therefore, your home is properly heated. This means that your home will always be warm and comfortable. You’ll also appreciate an even temperature distribution throughout your entire home.
Get The Best Value For Your Money
As you probably already know, the cost of your heating unit typically increases with the amount of heating power it needs. So when you buy a heating unit that has a higher heating power than what your home actually needs, you’ll end up paying a lot more money than you what you actually need to spend. On the other hand, when you choose to buy a unit that has a lower heating power than what your home actually needs, you’ll have to deal with a heating system replacement prematurely. At the same time, it also won’t be able to meet your home’s heating needs.
In order to get the best value for your money, you must hire the most competent HVAC company to help you determine what size of a furnace you actually need. They’ll properly size and install a heating system in your home to meet all of your heating needs. They’ll also give you a home heating system comparison so you can choose which system best suits your needs in regards to energy efficiency and comfort.

What To Do When Your Home Heating System Fails
In your home, one of your most prized possessions is your heating system. This is especially true during the winter. Your heater keeps your living environment at a comfortable temperature, even when it’s freezing cold outside.
To make sure that you don’t face any heating issues, you should have your entire heating system serviced by a reputable HVAC company on a routine basis. Routine heater maintenance can improve the functionality and overall performance of your heater. It can, additionally, keep breakdowns at bay. You should know, however, that even with routine maintenance, it is still possible to have your heating system breakdown.
When your heating system malfunctions…
it is important to know how to properly deal with the problem. It’s out of the question to try to do a home heating repair on your own. You may just make things a whole lot worse. It is also possible to sustain a physical injury along the way. This article is going to share steps that you can use whenever you have a heater breakdown right in the middle of winter.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘7e47af7c-060d-4411-b5f8-789ea304f6ec’, {});
Close Doors To Rooms You Aren’t Using
When your heating system fails, you want to do everything you can to retain all of the heat indoors. Thus, the very first step is to close doors to any rooms that you aren’t using. This is going to prevent heat from escaping the area that you’re in. Otherwise it would go into the rooms that are unoccupied. Once all doors to unused rooms are closed, it is possible to remain comfortable for several hours while you wait for the HVAC contractor to show up and conduct a heating service repair in your Lehighton PA home.
Start Cooking
You want to use every possible opportunity to generate heat when your heating system fails. For instance, go ahead and start cooking. Making a nice soup or stew will generate additional heat and add more moisture to the living environment. This is a very effective way to keep everyone warm while waiting for heater repairs.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’39dd47ac-4a2d-4661-8a7b-7368fb7367a2′, {});
Get Some Exercise In
If your heating system fails…
go ahead and limit your activities to just one room to keep heat loss to a minimum. Moreover, think about exercising in order to capitalize on your natural, internal heating system.
When you start moving around, your body burns calories to create the energy that’s necessary for fueling your movements. Heat is a natural byproduct of these activities. You would be surprised at how much heat you can create by doing this! You don’t have to do anything extraordinary. You just have to move around a little in order for this to happen.
Dress Warmly
Even though shutting doors to unoccupied rooms can limit the loss of heat, it is far better to dress warmly as well. By doing so, you won’t lose any body heat to your surroundings. This will keep you at a comfortable temperature while waiting for emergency repair services for your heating system.

  Check To Ensure That There Aren’t Any Foul Odors In The Home
A failed heating system can make your living environment both uncomfortable and unsafe. This is why you should have a trustworthy HVAC contractor come fix the problem no matter what time it occurs. Fortunately, top HVAC contractors often provide emergency repairs.
While waiting for your heating technician to arrive, take the time to check your home for foul smells.
Check for a rotten egg smell…
because this could mean that you have a gas leak. If you think you do, go ahead and contact the fire department as well. You should also vacate the home right away to ensure your continued safety. This is very important because if there is indeed a gas leak, it is not possible to safely remain in your home until your HVAC contractor shows up.

Natural Gas Vs. Heating Oil: What Homeowners Should Know
When it comes to comparing different kinds of heating systems, you should always think about the types of fuel that these systems use. This can have a significant impact on comfort levels, heating costs, and resident safety. In this article, you will find an in-depth comparison of natural gas versus heating oil.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘2b4f876e-8aba-4e0c-9709-62b3ceaaac8c’, {});
Pricing Options And Service Plans
Natural gas, unlike heating oil, typically comes from one major utility. As such, gas provides far fewer options in terms of fuel supply management and control when compared to heating oil. Moreover, the limited number of gas suppliers leaves homeowners with just a few options for getting their heat when it comes to pricing and service plans.
The good news is that people who use oil don’t really have to deal with issues like these given that there’s a much larger number of heating oil suppliers that these individuals can choose from. It’s also important to note that reliable companies within the heating oil delivery industry typically offer a variety of financing options along with delivery plans that are structured to meet the needs of their clients. They key is to locate the right company that can suit your needs. R.F. Ohl is known for offering high quality fuel oil services at affordable prices. We offer many fuel oil delivery plans as well as different financing options.
Environmental Impact
Natural gas is not less harmful to the natural environment than fuel oil. The truth of the matter is that natural gas actually causes far more harm to the environment overall. This is because methane gas is its primary component. Methane gas is largely responsible for global warming. The US Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, states that the effects of methane gas on climate change is actually 25 times that of CO2 or carbon dioxide. With this in mind, the more environmentally friendly fuel for generating heat is heating oil.
There are a number of bio-diesel blends that use wasted soy bean oil. This fuel converts into a sulfur-free and relatively clean fuel. Some studies report that heating oil produces approximately 0.40 percent of the United State’s particulate emissions. However, gas leaks and emissions pose a far more significant climate risk. Due to this fact, more consumers have been choosing bio-diesel blends.
Energy Efficiency
The best overall value comes from modern oil furnaces. These happen to be very easy to maintain. Comparatively, they are also much easier to repair. Fuel oil units last longer. Also, they are more robust, very reliable, and often come with interchangeable parts. Moreover, their AFUE ratings are at 95 percent and above, which shows just how energy-efficient they actually are. Actually, one reports shows that in a well-insulated home, a state-of-the-art furnace can result in a reducing in heating costs by up to 40 percent. Much like all other heating systems, however, they need maintenance each year in order to optimize their efficiency and performance. R.F. Ohl offers heater tune-ups that help optimize the performance of your system.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’46ac01ee-8c54-4fbe-9714-1125ac2fa3a4′, {});
Overall Safety
Heating oil is non-explosive, which is hardly the case with natural gas. In fact, fuel oil will not even burn until its vaporized. Due to this fact, this is a very safe energy source. Heating oil does not ignite near an ignition source. However, natural gas is highly flammable. Gas will explode whenever it’s around an ignition source. Inspections of gas equipment and gas lines for potential leaks is necessary. This can make your natural gas heating system significantly more costly. Moreover, for safety reasons, it is important to install gas detectors. Explosions caused by natural gas are hardly unheard of.
Cost
Oil heat prices tend to be significantly lower than natural gas prices in certain areas throughout the United States. According to numbers shared by Energy Answers Today, this has been the case for two decades. Supply and demand ultimately determine the price of these two commodities. There are currently more oil deposits in the world than there are deposits of natural gas. To put things differently, natural gas prices have a higher likelihood of increasing due to scarcity and high demand. Thus, when you compare home heating oil prices to the cost of natural gas, you will pay a lot less for heating oil.

Home Heating Oil Lehighton PA
The two main fuels in the United States are home heating oil and natural gas. Home heating oil, however, is often the most attractive choice due to various factors like environmental impact, safety, price, service plans, and overall efficiency.
When you are in need of the best heating oil companies near me, contact R.F. Ohl. We offer outstanding heating oil prices and fast delivery times. R.F. Knowing When To Replace Your Heating System
Many homeowners want to know when they should either repair or replace their furnace. They’re hung up on heating system replacement cost instead of considering why doing so is advantageous to them. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) says the typical heating system only lasts for about 20 years. When you’re heater gets that old, it’s time for an upgrade. Although this is expensive, you’ll reap a lot of benefits from it.
When you replace your old, outdated furnace…
you’ll benefit in three main ways:
You’ll pay less for your home’s heating costs
Your home feels more comfortable
Your furnace won’t break down in the middle of winter
R.F. Ohl is here to help by offering affordable and trusted heating system replacements in Lehighton PA and surrounding areas. There are some homeowners who say they’re unaware of when they should replace their furnace. They also claim that they don’t realize it until it’s too late. Instead, their furnace completely malfunctions in midwinter. Fortunately, you can avoid having this happen to you. This is because your furnace shows some clear signs it needs to be replaced before the time actually occurs. In this article, we will discuss some heater replacement signs you should watch for.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ‘b407dc2a-292f-4c73-b4f5-675b4b94a8fc’, {});
Needing Frequent Repairs
When you find yourself frequently repairing your furnace, you know it’s time to replace it. Any time the repairs cost 50% or more than what it’d cost to replace the unit, you should upgrade your furnace. Make sure that whether your repairing or replacing your furnace you have a reputable HVAC company handling the work for you.
If you’re like most homeowners, you’ll continually repair your furnace. When you start spending more money than it would cost to upgrade to a new furnace, it’s no longer worth the cost to repair your furnace. Instead, it’s time to start shopping for a new one. This is something a reputable, honest HVAC company should talk to you about once they realize you’ve been repeatedly contacting them.
Costing More For Heating Your Home
When you question “How efficient is a 20 year old furnace?”, you’ll surprisingly discover that over the course of time, furnaces start losing their energy efficiency. The US Department of Energy (DOE) created a system known as the annual energy utilization efficiency (AFUE), which is a system they use to measure a furnace’s efficiency. According to the DOE, a heater’s AFUE drops to 78% or less after your furnace is two decades old. This is true even if you’ve provided routine maintenance for your furnace. This means that your furnace is only able to use 78% of the energy it consumes to heat your home. As such, they waste 22% of the energy.
The more your furnace’s AFUE drops, the more your heating costs will rise.
If you want to keep your heating costs in check, have a professional HVAC technician install a new, high-efficiency furnace with a 93-97% AFUE. Until you reach this point with your heating system, make sure that you schedule tune-ups on a yearly basis. This is the only way to make sure your heater is running at optimal, energy-efficient performance.
https://js.hscta.net/cta/current.js hbspt.cta.load(534936, ’46ac01ee-8c54-4fbe-9714-1125ac2fa3a4′, {});
Old Age
According to a study that the National Association of Home Builders and the Bank of America conducted in 2007, your typical heater only lasts 15 – 20 years. This same study also found that the baseboards for hot water radiators only last 13-21 years. There are a few different ways in which you can find your heating unit’s age. Sometimes the technicians who install the unit will actually write the date they installed the unit directly on it. If they didn’t do this, you can still figure out your unit’s age by contacting the unit’s manufacturer and providing them with the model and serial numbers.
Showing Signs Of Carbon Monoxide
Properly working gas furnaces will have a blue flame with yellow at the tip of its inner core. However, when a heating system isn’t working efficiently, it will produce a lot of carbon monoxide. This is important because carbon monoxide poisoning is dangerous. When you feel there’s a problem, make sure you call a professional HVAC technician immediately so they can inspect your furnace right away.
Some of the other common signs of carbon monoxide include:
Corroded pipes
Leaking water
A lot of condensation in cold places
Soot streaks left around your furnace
The best way to watch for higher carbon monoxide levels in your home is by installing a carbon monoxide detector inside of your home. You must install them within 10 feet of each of your home’s bedrooms. You’ll also want to make sure you keep your furnace in good working order by scheduling annual furnace maintenance each fall.

  Uneven Temperatures
When you find yourself continually adjusting your thermostat so you’re comfortable, there’s probably something wrong with your furnace. This is especially true if you have an older furnace, which is a good time to upgrade your furnace. Sometimes the problem is with the thermostat. However, temperature issues are definitely one of the signs that indicate that you need a new furnace.
The best way to find out is by contacting a reputable HVAC contractor in your area. They will be able to decipher whether or not the temperature issues in your home are attributed to a malfunctioning thermostat or a malfunctioning heating system. Either way, they will have the ability to repair your thermostat or offer alternative solutions to repair this issue.

  Add Insulation
Your walls also can lose a lot of heat. There is conduction across the exterior walls. Because of this, think about adding more insulation to these exterior walls. Also, you can add insulation to your attic and your crawlspace. If you do not feel comfortable doing a task like this, then call in the pros. A reputable HVAC company can help you out.
Heater Maintenance
Part of preparing for the cold season…
includes the maintenance of your heater. Be sure to schedule a tune-up. In fact, annual furnace maintenance is vital when it comes to your comfort and safety. The professional HVAC contractor will clean and inspect the burner. This ensures that the combustion process of your heating system is efficient. He also cleans and inspects all of the other components that make up the system. The contractor will remove any dust and soot. He replaces the air filters which helps ensure adequate airflow within your home. He will inspect the fan belt to verify that is it working as needed. A reputable HVAC company can tune-up your system so that it is in proper working order in time for the winter.
A contractor has a furnace tune-up checklist that he will go through as he inspects your system. An efficiently operating system is a great way to reduce your home heating costs. Also, during a tune-up, the contractor can address any minor issues to help reduce repair costs as well. Your heater will do a better job at keeping your home comfortable. It is a win-win situation. Many homeowners neglect the maintenance of their system due to the concern that they feel over furnace tune-up cost. However, for what you get in return, it is certainly a small price to pay.

Thermostat
You do not need to keep your thermostat at the same temperature all of the time. When you leave your home or go to bed at night, you can turn your thermostat down up to 10 degrees. When you get up in the morning or when you return home, you can turn up the thermostat to the ideal temperature. There is no point in keeping a warm home when you are not in it. Likewise, your bedding will keep you nice and warm so you do not need to run your heater constantly at night.
Some homeowners have had great success with a programmable thermostat. You can set the thermostat to your schedule so that it warms the house right before you get home and right before you get up. This is an excellent way to make your home more energy efficient and cut down on energy costs. Furthermore, it does this without compromising your comfort.
Use A Humidifier
Energy conservation specialists…
have come up with ways of improving efficiency at no costs. In cold seasons, the air is always dry. Hence, it loses heat very quickly. However, humidifiers can help combat this issue. The devices puts moisture in the air. The moisture absorbs the heat, thereby, retaining warmth for long hours. Think about using a humidifier this winter to help reduce your energy costs.
