Shadow Milk is alone and hurting and cannot trust. He hates himself. He’s not a sad puppy, he’s violent and angry and wants the world to feel his pain as badly as he does. They did this to him, he wants them to pay for it.

The world needs to bleed like he has, suffer like he has.

It’s an empty goal.

There is nothing the suffering he brings can do to sooth his own.

His attempts put the lives of his minions in jeopardy and he hates the thought of loosing what little he has.

He gives up his soul jam in return for their lives. An act that cripples him(it’s part of his soul after all)

He hates his weakness, is protective of his minions.(those are HIS dolls. His to care for and his to break.)

Three of them confined to the room. Where Smilk falls back into maladaptive habits(disassociating).

Begins to tell stories to his minions to cope.

They get better. PV returns home, SM does NOT trust this man.

Cue the feral cat taming.

PV is gentle and respectful of boundaries. Of course SMilk is having dissociative episodes, so when they get really bad CA and BS call PV like “hey, our masters doing the things again” and PV is like “On my way”

So of course they start getting closer but SM is terrified to let anyone in. PV sees how the isolation is destroying the three and lets them go. So they travel bc SMilk cannot handle stillness.

Cue wandering storyteller arc. Starts out as lies to get back at PV but becomes softer, more entertainment and less malicious.

Ends up with a reputation for entertainment. Very good at it. Melds into something like found family.

- [ ] Knows that lashing out at the world ultimately didn’t do anything. SM doesn’t feel better, no one apologizes, revenge is pointless.

- [ ] Redemption is here is the fact that he regrets the pointless pain. (Doesn’t regret the killing of Elder Faerie, but does regret the pain his death caused.) and understanding that going forward, violence is pointless because it so rarely gets him what he wants.

- [ ] Learns to be sweetly manipulative. Learns to hide barbed words behind honeyed smiles, something he was always great at. Because hurting someone’s reputation and ego are far more effective and damaging weapons than hurting g them with violence.

ANYWAYS MOVING ON

Has the redemption arc, then ends up back at PV castle. Decides, “we’re different people then some odd years ago, well before okay. And if we can’t I can and will fuck up an old man.”

PV is of course delighted to see him. He’s brighter than he used to be, smiles and genuinely means it.

PV invites him to stay at the palace and SM can’t really think of a good reason not to (plus the kiddies want to sooo..)

Of course SM is taking a walk outside at night. He needs the fresh air, things are so different yet exactly the same and it’s making him anxious.

PV is there bc it’s his garden and the two meet.

SM is softer, but not a completely different person so he tries to keep PV at arms length.

PV is excited to have his other half near him for the first time in years. It’s a tentative dance but they fall in love. And SMilk stays. Because this place has the other half of his soul.

It’s a slow process, it takes years and years for the two to come back together. They relearn each other. And it’s easier than either anticipated. It takes gentleness and patience, but PV has plenty of both.

SMilk isn’t a traveling storyteller anymore. He’ll never be the fount again. But he is intelligent, he knows politics and history and magic more than anyone else alive. PV and SMilk make a wonderful duo. Researchers and pioneers of arcane arts the likes of which earthbread was never prepared for.

Enter White Lilly.

SMilk is scared of her, she despises his role in Elder Faeries death.

I don’t know how they would come together. Neither of them trust the other and they cannot forgive or forget.

But she is willing to get to know who this person is, and when she does she is willing to extend a kindness.

SMilk is intelligent, and funny, and surprisingly kind when he wants to be.

So White Lilly cannot forgive SMilk. And he does not expect her to. But immortals rarely hate each other forever.

One day, the pain will cool into reluctant alliance. Then to tentative friendship.

Them Then the three of them enter this Queerplatonic relationship.
