“It’s cute,” Izzy said simply, shrugging. She dared not smile as Robin confirmed her theory, but it was hard when she felt her shoulder being nudged. Izzy wanted to laugh. “I mean, yeah, she’s a badass bitch. I know the territory well. I guess I just like my girl music.”

“Shush, you.” Robin’s eyes darted over before smirking as she watched the road. “So what other music do you like? Please expand on all of that.” She pressed as she gestured.

“I am not lying. I genuinely think it’s sweet. You’re like a suburban housewife rushing home to watch HGTV or something. I bet you even have the Joanna Gaines cookbook,” she teased. “I’m gonna take that as a compliment. – Oh my god.” Izzy just laughed again. “If I knew anything other than Space, Cowboy I probably would. You got lucky today, partner.”

“Please don’t expose my hobbies, thank you. Okay, well to be fair... Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering is a staple in any kitchen.” Robin quipped as she reached to nudge the other girl’s shoulder. “As you should. -- So you’re a Kasey Musgraves fan? I support that.”

“That definitely sounds like my playlist. We used to have one of those dance games, like the ones at arcades, and a bunch of those songs are on the playlist. Back then, I only used the internet to watch Disney Channel so I could live without it. Hozier has a very active twitter account, I think. He might have also become a forest nymph. Not sure.” 

“Oh, like dance dance revolution? I love those games. I’m terrible at them, but I love that nostalgia vibe. You used to watch Disney Channel through the internet? What a concept. Although, I guess they were one of the first to actually have episodes of their shows on their website. Do you think forest nymphs run an active twitter account? Because if so, I think I just got my answer. It’s a shame he hasn’t dropped anything since over four years ago.”

Izzy actually smiled. “No, I don’t think it’s lame.” She thought it was cute, but she didn’t say it. “I’m always feeling extra spicy,” she laughed, before searching for a good club playlist. Once she found a good enough song, she shrugged sheepishly. “Good driving music. And getting ready music. And everything music. I’m a straight bops kind of girl,” Izzy nodded.

“Are you lying to me? I know it’s lame.” Robin shot her a look before smiling to herself. “I genuinely don’t doubt that.” Pushing her sunglasses back onto the bridge of her nose, she nodded along to the beat of the song she chose. “I’m surprised. I kinda thought you’d choose something country to taunt me. But I like this better.”

She really shouldn’t have asked to come over, but Izzy didn’t usually go home this early, either. “He did? Wow, I bet you’re over the moon about it.” She specifically remembered her mentioning that in one of their earlier conversations. Or maybe it was from a tweet? Didn’t matter really. “Yes. Yeah. Can I turn up your music?”

Robin didn’t know how to prompt the question about the party, so instead she nervously tapped her thumb against the steering wheel. “I am, how did you know that? I didn’t like... tell you I’ve been wanting a pantry, right? That’s so lame of me.” She tried to keep her mom side toned down outside of Priya. “Of course, yeah. You can do whatever with it.” She said with a gesture before she pulled out into the street once traffic cleared. “I’ve got Spotify if you’re feeling extra spicy.” And with that she tossed her phone into Izzy’s lap with the aux cord.

“Thank you.” Declan smiled. “I agree. I think people are just afraid of the controversy it’ll cause but if people stopped caring then it wouldn’t be an issue. Life is honestly too short to worry about what people think.”

“Yeah, anytime.” Robin leaned against her palm as she smiled. “Damn. Yes. That’s my kinda mantra. People strive way too much on negativity nowadays. If more people just stopped caring and focused on being their unapologetic selves, I think everyone would be a lot happier.”

It didn’t take Robin much to get swept away in a conspiracy theory, so this was no exception. Nodding slowly as she listened, she reached to brush her chin in deep thought. “Maybe so. -- I mean, she’d be the last on the suspect list. And from what I hear she’s just been rebuilding world war two replica airplanes as a hobby nowadays. Boredom can do strange things to rich people.”

“i have a theory.”  unprompted as her fingers zoom in on the vandalized scenery flats.  “paris hilton, obviously, did it. she came to wisconsin out of what, i can only assume is, pity to warn us about the kardashians. you know they used to be, like, best friends, right?” she’ll pump the sabotaged musical full of gas for as long as she could. if everyone’s talking about this half-assed theory it’ll make walking down the halls easier.  “this is the only place she’ll feel powerful considering how irrelevant she is now. it was - it had  to be paris hilton. change my mind.”

“It’s called Guilty Pleasures, so you can just search for it. It was a better time, honestly. Yeah, it’s always the ones you least expect that play your favorite cartoon characters. Right? I’m always so confused when singers just go completely off the radar after successful albums.”

“Oh my god. I think I’ve come across that playlist. It may have been the last time I bopped to Mambo No. 5. A much simpler less stressful time. The internet speed sucked, but I’d take it all back. It really is. I’m still shook Drake Bell does so much voice acting. Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Hozier?”

Uh oh. “Uh.” Again she giggled, although this time it was from pure nerves. Still unlike her. “Yeah. That would be great.” Shit. She’d have to text Vic and tell her not to wait for her – which, Izzy, knew, wasn’t going to go over well in Victoria’s current state. Maybe she’d find a soccer player to distract her or something. “Or… we could just hang out at your house.” What? What was she doing? This wasn’t what she meant to say at all. – Or was it? No, definitely not.

“Yeah? Okay, great.” She echoed with a nod as she closed the drivers side door. Robin had to be more articulate if she planned on prompting the questions about the party to Izzy. “You’d wanna do that? My dad did install a new pantry.” She said as if it was exciting by the sheer fact that she herself was excited about it. Turning her engine over, she reached to pull on her sunglasses. “So my house then?” Robin asked again as she backed out of the parking spot.

“The only reason I hadn’t is because I always get the weirdest songs stuck in my head during class and add them to my Spotify playlist right after. So I have an entire playlist of just Disney songs and songs made in the late 90s and early 2000s. He still makes money by playing Robin in every DC cartoon ever, but I guess he really missed making music. Sometime in August, I think.” 

“Okay, you’ve gotta share that playlist because I’m trash for the soundtrack of Disney back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Such an iconic time. Does he really? I didn’t even know he got into voice acting. Go Jesse. I really thought he was gonna have a come back after the album that had Leavin’ on it, because all those songs slap.”

God. She was so cute. Not that Izzy needed much of a reminder, but just seeing Robin had brought the events of the party flooding back. The feelings. She couldn’t deny them anymore, they were there, and they were loud. Like, dam-suddenly-collapsed-and-let-a-river-out loud. Izzy tried not to look so obviously happy by the way Robin said wow. “Yes. Much,” she said, trying to appear calm despite her insides melting so furiously. At the shoulder-shove, she let out an embarrassing giggle. “I’m doing really good. Do you wanna like, go sit in your car?”

Although Robin wanted to, she kept her eyes away from looking at Izzy’s face for the moment, finding she didn’t wanna do something as stupid as blush looking at her. “Good, good.” She said with a nod. Only hearing the other girl’s giggle caused her to think they might’ve been in the same place. “Uh, yeah. I’ll give you a ride home if you need it.” She shot her a smile finally intentionally trying to catch her gaze before walking to open the passenger door to casually grab her backpack out of the passenger seat and toss it in back before she got into the driver’s side seat.

“What! Really? That’s so badass.” Robin said with a nod. “There should be so much more of that music in the mainstream, people can be such unnecessary assholes.”

Hearing her name caused her brow to raise. Everyone who could’ve possibly wanted her attention was already at practice. Or so she thought. Turning to see the fawn-haired girl in the distance instantly made her heart race. Quiet down, she wanted to tell herself. But all she could do was blink and stare, unprepared for the sight of Robin and her long cute legs swinging off the hood of her car. Shit. Shit shit shit. “Yeah?” Izzy smiled, trying to seem unperturbed. “Wait, hang on.” She took her bottle of water and downed a big swig of it, before pouring the rest of it out on herself. “Okay. What’s up?”

Usually Robin kept to herself aside from her friends she was close to then she kicked it up to full notch annoying. She tried to keep things more chill between Izzy and her. Tucking her phone into her pocket, she kept a smile on her lips as she folded her arms over her chest. Only her cool demeanor faded when she saw the girl pouring water on herself. “Oh, wow. Okay. Feel better?” Robin asked as she gestured. “I was just gonna ask how you’re doing and if we could talk.” To break some sort of awkward barrier, she reached to shove the girl’s shoulder gently.

Robin did her best to be inconspicuous to the fact she was waiting around for Izzy to finish up cheer practice. She wanted to confront her about what had happened at the party, and how they never really got that moment alone. She couldn’t figure out if it was just a moment of the girl being drunk, or something more. Either way, it’d been bugging her ever since. Hopping off the hood of her car, she waved as she attempted to catch Izzy’s attention. “Castro! Do you gotta moment?”

“I forgot all about Jesse McCartney until now. What a throwback. Are you serious? Aw, dammit. Poor Jesse. He truly was on his A game back in the early 00s. When’s the concert? I’m considering supporting him so he’ll at least have two fans there.”

“Spotify guilt tripped me into buying tickets to see Jesse McCartney as if this is 2003. Apparently, listening to Beautiful Soul once made me his biggest fan who was eligible for a presale code. I kept joking about it until I realized that if my listening to one song was enough to make me a fan, he had no fans, and I felt bad for him. If he just sings every song he released when I was in kindergarten, I might have a good time. Anyways, that’s just proof that it is so easy to get me to empathize with literally anything.”

“Yeah, of course.” Declan moved her bag and notebook out of the way so Robin had room to sit. “I think at some point or another everyone feels like the loner in a bad indie movie. Part of life.”

Scooting into the booth, Robin let out a quiet laugh as she nodded. “Isn’t that the truth? I think I do way too often. So what’re you working on if you don’t mind me asking.” She said as she gestured to the notebook.
