What I Want for the Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters Franchise

Although I absolutely love this franchise, there are some things I wish it would do or at least do better

Re-release of older building sets

When I say this, I don't mean the houses or log cabins. I mean stuff like the post office, toy shop, etc. I'm just a sucker for bigger playsets even though I don't have the space for them

Re-release of the Urban Life series

I just discovered these guys and absolutely fell in love with them. Then I found out they debuted in the 1980s and (some) were Japanese exclusives 😭. I would like for them to be brought back (with all their babies included). If y'all can do it for the Puddleford family, then I know y'all can do it for the others. If they ever do, please keep them dressed exactly like how they were originally were

More Celebration Sets pls!

I know that selling families separate garners more money (perfect marketing strategy) but I'd rather pay for a box containing all of the family members (including grandparents, older siblings, aunts/uncles, & babies) than buying them individually. Plus, it'd be easy to collect and complete a lot of families that way

Why is Easy Buy not so easy to find?

I very rarely see any Easy Buy sets (with the exception of Sylvanian storekeepers) and when I do they are stupidly expensive. I thought the point of "Easy Buy" meant that they were also easy to access and purchase. It kinda reminds me about the Budget LOL OMG dolls from the Swim series. They sold two different versions (one w/articulation & one w/o articulation). However, I've never seen them in stores, not even dollar stores but they go for a lot online.

Another thing with the Easy Buy families is that the babies are separated from the other 3 family members. Why not just make it a 4-pack? Again it's probably a marketing strategy but the completionist in me is hurt by how difficult it is for me to find their babies. I was lucky enough to get the Devon cat and Oswald rabbit babies when I did but I will forever kick my ass for not getting the Applewood family when they were still around.

Give others time to shine!

I’ve noticed that a lot of individual, duo & trio sets are/include a Chocolate rabbit and/or a Persian cat. Now, I know Freya/Bell is the mascot, so of course they would use her and her family in merchandise, and I also love the Persians. However, I feel like they’re in too much merch. I think other characters should get their time in the limelight y’know?

Boy Twins

When I say twins, I’m referring to the case of the Persian cat twins and the Marlowe charcoal/tuxedo cat twins. Strangely enough, both sets of twins are female cats. So, I’d like an official set of twin boys who aren’t cats. I could make my own with duplicates but an official set would be cool

Cold one with the boys

I don’t think I’m alone when I say this but the guys in this franchise are heavily overshadowed and casted to the side. (😐: Me at the 3-packs where the son is always removed). The ladies get an abundance of gorgeous outfits and accessories while the guys get scraps. I mean look at the Snow rabbit family!

All the girlies got drip while the dad & son are just… there. I know what you’re gonna say: “They do have outfits for the dudes!” “Just get duplicates and/or switch around clothes!” “Make custom clothes!” Yes, they do have clothes for them but it’s so little compared to the ladies. I don’t like buying duplicates or redressing that much and I cannot make clothes for them sadly. Let my boys be stylish and have variety!

Only the horses! (Praying at least one of y’all knows that song)

Bring back the horses! I’m dying for a horse racing set (if there isn’t one already)

Sylvanian Families/Calico Critter Questions Round 2

My question post really blew up! I wanna thank everyone who took time out of their day to read the ramblings of an insomniac 😖. I thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's ideas and input. Please bear in mind that I'm still trying to figure out how Tumblr works so I don't know whether to reply or reblog as a response so I'm kinda doing a mixture of both. Sorry about that in advance

But now that I'm finished with summer classes, I am back with more questions (bc I have nothing else better to do)

Q#11: Since there's a Wedding Chapel set and chapels are usually a place for Christians, does that mean there's religion in their universe?

Q#12: Has Sylvania ever been to war with other countries? If so, does that mean they have a military?

Q#13: Where would Sylvania be on a world map? I think Sylvania's based on Great Britain, which is in Europe, so maybe it would be in that continent. Or would they be Great Britain in their universe?

Q#14: Are there other fictional countries like Sylvania or does their universe have their own version of real-life countries?

Q#15: How have we had no college/university sets yet? Let the older siblings get their degrees!

Q#16: If the Bouquet family are skunks, where are the stripes on their tails? (my mom's question, not mine)

Q#17: Considering the whole anthro/non-anthro discussion, do Sylvanians have pets? Are there pet stores and shelters?

Q#18: What about zoos? I looked up to see if they had any zoo sets and couldn't find any. But knowing me there probably is one and I just somehow missed it

Q#19: Are humans ever mentioned in the Sylvanian universe? I doubt it but if they were, would the critters see us as monsters/aliens?

Q#20: More of a gripe than a question but where are the boy only families at? Almost every family I see either has an overload of daughters and like one or two sons, an equal amount of boys and girls, or just daughters. Guess I gotta rename and redress some duplicates (when I get more) I guess 🤷‍♀️

Welp these are all I could think of and I'm definitely making more. Just gotta get the brain juice flowing

I kinda wanna post things about the world my Sylvanians live in (I named it Potpourri!), my future wishes for the franchise and my (bleak) collection. I'll probably post about the future wishes first and make that into like a bingo card/checklist thing

Your response honestly makes me wanna see a non-anthro version of the other animals. Like some regular cows at the farm or some deer in the forest. I'm not sure if cows eat meat, let alone beef. But if they do, my childhood will be shattered. And yeah pigs will eat anything you give them. They're so greedy! I think it might be best to assume it's a non-anthro and anthro world but I would definitely make a few jokes about pigs eating bacon or cows drinking milk in a series. Y'know just for fun

Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters Questions

Over the weekend, I was putting up some of my lil dudes on a new shelf and started to overthink some things. These questions are really just random and unimportant but I had to put it out there.

Q#1: Is Marley Fenton named after Marley from Marley & Me? He's gotta be since both are yellow Labs.

Q#2: How does food work in their universe? There's milk and there's a cow family. Plus, venison and mutton are a thing and we also have deer and sheep families. I'm getting scared over the implications here... Sylvanian Horror ARG when?

Q#3: Why do the newer sets have less floor? I feel like this is just a me thing but maybe it's because the newer sets are smaller idk

Q#4: Does crime exist in their universe? I don't recall seeing any police officer or jail sets. This also begs the question about their laws and judicial system.

Q#5: Why are the Marlowe's called tuxedo cats when they're not?

Q#6: Based on their surname, are the Bassett's supposed to Basset Hounds? The same goes for Chantilly's since Chantilly cats do exist (or well did since I think they're now an extinct breed).

Q#7: On the topic of species, the Doughty's are referred to as the "Chiffon Dog" family. But when I looked up chiffon dogs, I got the Shiffon, which is a Shih Tzu x Brussels Griffon mix. So, are they that type of breed?

Q#8: Since Sylvania is a country, who's their leader? I know they have mayors but I'm talking about someone more "higher up" than that. Unless, being the mayor = being the leader of Sylvania.

Q#9: Does Sylvania have holidays specific to them?

Q#10: How come there isn't an official family of mixed species yet? Maybe they don't want to create hybrid children but that can be avoided if they follow the Either/Or Offspring trope.

Sorry to bombard anyone with this if they come across it. I just had some dumb thoughts and I'll probably create more later in a separate post. Have a nice night (or day)!

Pescatarian? This is the first time I've heard of such a term! But yeah, I always wonder about how food works in a world full of animals but that's me being a human and overthinking it

Okay, so I wasn't going crazy about the shorter floors! I've seen older sets and they had so much room compared to the newer ones. I guess it makes sense if there isn't enough room for play (like mine's is) but it's so devastating

I can't believe I missed out on a police officer set! Man, I would've gotten some duplicates and made a police force. I mean, they'd probably be bored considering that Sylvania (hopefully) isn't crime-ridden but it would've been cool nonetheless

Looked it up and yeah Japan calls them charcoal cats. I think the localizations teams need to communicate with each other better. If anything, they're bi-colored cats

When it comes to the non-anthro horses and anthro horses, they probably didn't think a pony family would've been made. Yet, here we are and now we have quite a pickle!
