I love Madohomu not because I think Madoka and Homura would actually make a good couple and would be good for each other, but because their relationship is so beautifully tragic. What if Satan became a fallen angel not because he would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven, but because he loved God too much, loved him in a way he could never be loved back? Madoka loves Homura in the way that God loves all his children. Homura loves Madoka in the way that only a true devout loves her God, in a way that goes beyond admiration to the point of infatuation. Homura loves her God so much she wished to bring her down to earth so she could love her as humans love each other. She loved her God so much she became a blasphemer, a fallen angel. PMMM said what if Paradise Lost was Yuri and that goes so incredibly hard I'm still thinking about it years later.

The way most autism literature describes "literal interpretation" is often not at all similar to how I experience it. Teenage me even thought I couldn't be autistic because I've always been able to learn metaphors easily.
In fact, I love wordplay of all kinds. Teenage me was fascinated to learn all the types of figurative language there are in poetry and literature.
But paperwork and questionnaires are hard, because there's so much they don't state clearly. Or they don't leave room for enough nuance.
"List all the jobs you've had, with start and end dates." What if I don't remember the exact day or month? Is the year enough?
"Have you been suffering from blurred vision?" Well, if I take off my glasses the whole world is blurred, but I'm fairly sure that's not what the intake form at the optometrist is asking.
Or the infamous (and infuriatingly stereotypical) "Would you rather go to a library or a party?" What sort of party? Where? Who's there? I work at a library. Am I currently at the library for work or pleasure? Does it have a good collection?
It's not common figures of speech that confound me. It's ambiguity, in situations that aren't supposed to be ambiguous.

I know it's implied that Madoka was able to draw her magical girl costume because of her subconscious memories of being a magical girl in other timelines. But when my partner @joestarluxe and I were rewatching the series, they pointed out that Madoka has a plushie that vaguely resembles her magical girl form:
Tumblr media
(shoutout to the Mami-like plushie too; out of frame there's also a Sayaka-like plushie)
Anyway, we know from the PSP game (as explained by Kyubey) that each magical girl's costume is unique and based on her attributes. I've always headcanoned that magical girls' costumes are something they love wearing (or at least something they think is cute/cool) and are in-line with their aesthetic preferences.
So what I'm getting at is, what if Madoka subconsciously based her magical girl form off one of her favorite plushies? Yeah, I know this plushie is probably just a quick visual reference, but I really love the idea of Madoka taking inspiration from one of her beloved plushies.

Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because "only women would be stupid enough to want to be women"
I wonder what he's doing now

Ive never really met anyone that thought of ribs as interesting… that’s such a shame. Ribs and the things they do are fascinating…. I think about them everyday.

I want to tell a story to the artists and would-be artists out there.
When I was 19, I made a large oil painting of the nerd I would eventually marry. I poured all my attention and care into this painting. It's the only art I have from back then that still holds up as a work I'm proud of today.
I entered it into a judged show at the local art center. It got an honorable mention. I went to see the show with my beloved model. One of the judges came up to talk to me, and highlighted that all the judges really liked the painting. It would have placed, except, you see, the feet were incorrect. They were too wide and short, and if I just studied a bit more anatomy-
I called over my future wife, and asked her to take off her shoe. Being already very used to humoring me, she did. The judge looked at her very short, very wide little foot. Exactly as I'd lovingly rendered it. I would never edit her appearance in any way.
The judge looked me in the eye, and to his credit, he really looked like he meant it when he said "Oh I'm so sorry."
Anyways the moral of the story is that all of those anatomy books that teach you proportions are either showing you averages, or a very specific idea of an idealized body. Actual bodies are much more varied than that.
So don't forget to draw from observation, and remember that humans aren't mass produced mannequins. Delight in our variation. Because it's supposed to be there.
