I am a huge fan of just seeing the light underwater and how our movements interact with it. Each dive, every bubble and flick of the hand changes the water which in turn changes the direction of the light. Return. I can't get my mind off the anticipation of the first whale coming back to Maui. Almost the whole summer has passed under the shroud of Covid-19. Tourism on Maui is virtually non existent. We are quickly moving towards the beginning of whale season and uncertainty abounds. We will have less visitors this season and personally I'm bracing for the impacts of that. Many whale lovers won't make their journey back this season and I will miss my regulars. All is not so bleak though. I have exciting news in development that will hopefully make you love and appreciate whales more and bring you joy and inspiration. Spotted Eagle Rays have a long whip like tail with venomous spines at the base. The stinging spines, originating just behind the dorsal fin, are short and number from 2-6. They have a barbed tip and recurved lateral teeth along with a forked root. These venomous spines can deliver a nasty sting when used in defense against potential threats. The Spotted Eagle Ray. It always feels like a special day when I get to see one of these cartilaginous fish gliding through the water. I don't see them very often and when I do it quickly and gracefully slips into the surrounding. Feeling blessed. My legs basically had to be out of the water and up on rocks to get this shot with the turtle. I am continually impressed with each person that I put underwater. It's not easy to wrap your legs together in a mermaid tail, submerge yourself deep underwater and then pose to look like you're totally comfortable with this potentially life threatening experience.
