imagine the most meanspirited, unlikeable, rude, bitter, self centered, negative person you can think of. not a rapist, not a murderer, not an abuser. just a charmless, tactless, dyed in the wool asshole you wouldn't want to spend two seconds with. now assume they get sick, not with the flu, but with a long term, serious illness that limits their ability to provide for themself. a society in which that person is left to die alone because nobody likes them on a personal level is a failed society.

So a white woman today wished me happy canada day, and when I did not respond positively, told me that while she's not much for canada day, she was thankful for her freedoms as a queer/trans person.

I told her "glad you all get freedoms at least"

And it really is 'you all' and not us.

My people's traditional systems of gender and social roles are not recognized. There's no legal recognition for people who are ayahkwêw, iskwêhikan, or înapîkasoht. No understanding of the roles of tastawiyiniwak.

Our traditional styles of relationships, the way that we do "marriage" has no legal protection. Legal marriage takes after european christian marriage. Why are Indigenous unions considered less valid? Why does the occupational government get a say in who I choose to share my life with?

Polyamory was not uncommon among my people. People regularly had multiple partners. You could have multiple spouses. These relationships nowadays have no recognition, no protection.

Children were raised communally. Nowadays most kids are raised without our language. More than 70% of kids in care in Alberta (where I live) are Indigenous. Instead of being raised by the community our kids get stolen off reserve and sent to white families.

People had the right to end relationships at any time. How many women get stuck in abusive marriages because of the high financial cost of divorce? How many Indigenous wives have been murdered by settler husbands before they could leave???

50% of sex trafficking victims in so called canada are Indigenous women and girls. Rates of rape and sexual violence are higher against our women and two spirit people than anyone else. We are just now starting to talk about how many Indigenous girls went from residential school to arranged marriages with white men.

But its great that settlers can have their queer marriages recognized. Happy canada day.

So when I ask you to reblog this post, think about the lack of effort it would take to flick your thumb—and realize it could be saving the lives of 14 people, affected by the horrors of war more than you could possibly imagine on your own.

Think about the sound of artillery firing. Even simply guns nearby. There's no "getting used to" that as your constant reality.

I do kind of fucking hate the “i love the way men love” masterpost because while the stories are of course very moving! it pisses me off to no end the way that it’s framed like invention and grand acts of devotion are this inherently masculine phenomenon opposed to the feminine inclination to just say “I love you” and it just gets circulated around and around uncritically for years lmao

when the op is so good but the reblogger adds some comment that just kills the whole post. anyway people doing prescription drugs to get high are not the reason prescription drugs are hard to get, they arent the bad guys, its because drug manufacturers and the government tightly regulate the distribution of your medication. its so useless to lecture people to not do prescription drugs to get high bc not only is that not the issue, but also the people who are doing that arent gonna change their mind because of you?

Horrifying to think about the impunity of the West. Horrifying to witness Western terrorists dehumanizing whole communities and then audaciously couching it as a necessary stepping stone to peace. A city was continuously bombed and put under seige for over 21 months in the name of Jewish safety, and the West upheld the opinion that this is not a genocide.
