the WHO
The Who, British rockgroup that was among the most popular and influential bands of the 1960s and ’70s and that originated the rock opera. Though primarily inspired by American blues and rhythm, the Who took a bold step toward defining a uniquely British rock vocal in the 1960s.
Shunning the Beatles romance and the rolling stone’s cocky swagger, the Who shunned pretension and straightforwardly dealt with teenage travails. At a time when rock music was uniting young people all over the world, the Who were friendless, bitter outsiders.

The group's earliest musical origins featured an elaborate mix of rock and progressive fusion, but it wasn't until they later shifted in a more commercial direction that they began their long, slow climb to superstardom.

KISS really has one of the most unique styles of any of rock group. They have a heavy metal sound and are well known for their crazy face paint and outfits. My favorite are the platform boots of the 1970s. Also during live performances there was tons of pyrotechnics and smoking guitars!

ROCk and RolL
A term used to describe the new emergence of rhythm and blues fusion type music in the 1950's. Often the music is referred to simply as rock in modern times. "Rock and Rolling" originally was a term frequently used in predominantly black neighborhoods to mean"having sexual intercourse". The term was however first derived as a musical term by disk jockey Alan Freed. Freed first played a collection of rhythm and blues albums in his show under the name "The Moondog Show". However, upon relocating to New York he changed the name to "The Rock and Roll Show". He had full knowledge of the term and it's racy implications, but probably found great satisfaction in the spread of the term among mainstream America with little knowledge of the term's true meaning
Here is the urban dictionary definition of Rock and Roll. LOL i think it is so cool that rock and roll is not clearly defined as a term and is more of a feeling.

rock and roll
ˈˌräk ən ˈrōl/
noun
a type of popular dance music originating in the 1950s, characterized by a heavy beat and simple melodies. Rock and roll was an amalgam of black rhythm and blues and white country music, usually based on a twelve-bar structure and an instrumentation of guitar, bass, and drums.
I thought this was an interesting definition of the term Rock and Roll.

Freddie Mercury
Known for his flamboyant stage persona and amazing vocal range (4 octave), Freddie Mercury is one of the best performers to ever live. He has been posthumously been awarded almost every award under the sun. And he is consistently voted one of the best vocalist in the history of pop music. Not only could he sing, he could also play keyboard and wrote some of the band’s music.

Later, the band progressed into more radio-friendly styles. Queen had many iconic hits including “we will rock you” “somebody to love” “crazy little thing called love” “ fat bottomed girls” “we are the champions” and “bohemian rhapsody”.
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of Queen’s most popular songs. I stayed on the top the charts for 9 weeks and sold more than 1 million copies.

Harry Styles new solo album is a pop/rock album but it has some old rock and roll feel to it. His live performances include high energy running around, dancing, and just all around being extra. It debuted across the charts and received generally positive reviews from music critics.
I think it is interesting to see where he started (boy band) and where his career is going (rock and roll star)

Girl Groups
Girl Groups during the 1950s and 1960s were not given much artistic freedom, so they were very limited in what the could sing about. This is evident in the work done by the Supremes. They had many hits with superficial lyrics, usually about men. I am not saying that these songs are not great songs because they are probably among the most influential Girl Groups of the era.
